Like many others have said you should watch the first Jumanji starring Robin Williams, you really enjoyed Robin Williams role in the movie "Good Will Hunting" playing the psychiatrist Sean. Both Jumanji movies are great yet there very different from one another in a very good way.
I'm sure it's been mentioned but hippos are the most dangerous land animals. It's so funny because you wouldn't even imagine it but they're aggressive and territorial while being massive and strong. Plus you can't see them in water sometimes so it's like a giant invisible wrecking ball with sharp points and a bad attitude about property rights.
Glad you enjoyed this. Everyone was incredibly skeptical that this would be good and it turned out to bea real gem. Jack Black is the standout as Bethany, which shouldn't have worked but he's perfect.
As everyone mentioned, the first Jumanji is great and whole different experience so you'll like it a lot. There's also a sequel to this that is good and a sort-of sequel from the same author called Zathura with Kristen Stewart that you might like too!
I take it you never saw the OG Jumanji with Robin Williams. It is a great movie. Very much different from this one.
I love this movie. After having watched the original Jumanji, I was afraid it wouldn't be that good. I was very pleasantly surprised. Jack Black was hilarious as a teenage girl. And Ruby Roundhouse is the same actress that played Nebula in the MCU movies. LOL I eating while watching you react. I almost choked laughing at your face when the insect crawled in the guy's ear. Great reaction. 🙂
This is one of those movies that 90% of the time would have been awful but somehow turned out to great!

This one stands on its own enough that you don’t NEED to watch the original first, but I feel like you’ll appreciate this even more once you see where some of the ideas came from.

This is actually the 3rd film in the wider "Jumanji-verse" There's the 1995 Jumanji film and 2005's Zathura. (Yes, the creatives behind this film count Zathura as part of it.)
At least 500 people a year can confirm that hippos are scary and aggressive... ;)
Actually they can not because they did not survive their encouter with the hippo. But it is true, no other animal on the african continents causes as many fatalities as hippos do - neither lions, crocodils or snakes...

It's rare that sequels are better than the originals, but in this case, Robin Williams not withstanding... it was better than the original.

Loved this movie , all of them really nailed their counterparts.
Really like how the concept of the game adapting with the times.

It took me a while to realize you were saying Ouija at the beginning. In the US it's pronounced wee ja or wee gee depending on where you're from.
Like others have said you should watch the original with Robin Williams. The sequel was fun too.

Ouija boards were named by combining the French word for 'yes', with the German word for 'yes'. Easy pronunciation key.
Except that nobody pronounces it that way.
It's not just that everybody uses an English j (as in jam), not a German one (as in Jung). As several other comments have said, the a is (almost always and quite bizarrely) pronounced like the i in "ski".

You didn't know but I think you are missing a lot of jokes and ah-ha moments from not seeing the original. I myself also loved Zathura which is in my mind the real sequel to the Robin William's original. I hope you get a chance to see the original while this is still fresh in your mind.
Zathura was the first sequel to the OG for me, too. And what a take on a board game come to life.

Lighting a set is very expensive for movies. That is why so many seem so dark.
It’s so funny seeing Jack Black playing a teenage girl. What’s interesting about this movie the game got all the kids to pick their exact opposite from what they are in the real world. It ended up helping them grow. This is a sequel to the 1995 Jumanji with Robin Williams. He played Alan Parrish who built the house Alex was staying at. The next Jumanji movie is pretty good also. It has Danny Devito in it which ups the comedy factor.

The part where the guy has been missing for 20 years, reminds me of the movie "Flight of the Navigator", a boy goes out into the woods, and gets hurt, for him only a few minutes have passed, but to the rest of the world many years have gone by. He then needs the help of... to try and return to his proper home.

To be perfectly honest... an elephant will defeat literally anything on land in a fight. Sure, there are some exceptionally large lion prides such as the Savuti pride which has over 30 members that have killed elephants before, but these are usually very young ones, and when they have killed adults it's been at night when they can't see in the dark better than you can. However, since there was sufficient lighting there, the elephant had every reason to win and the scene was very well-handled.
After Jumanji, there's Zathura, a space adventure. 👍

Obviously you're aware of the original. There's a sequel to this, Jumanji: The Next Level. There's also another film in the franchise, even if it's not directly related to any of the movies, Zathura: A Space Adventure. It's very much like the original Jumanji and is based on a book by the same author.
I wasn't aware of Zathura being connected to Jumanji, or if I was, I totally forgot. Now that I know, I'm going to put it on my list of movies to react to, so thanks for the mention of that movie.
@@31Mike It's only connected in that it's the same premise of a board game coming to life, and based off a book written by the same author that wrote the original Jumanji book. It's aimed at a younger demographic, with the main characters being 6 and 10.
As has been stated, the original movie _did_ have an actual board game.
It's pronounced (in American English anyway) Wee-Zha. Oui & Ja being yes in French and German. And, yes, I know, actual Germans pronounce it "Ya." :) What can I say, Americans... LOL.

Ouija Board is pronounced "weee-gee" but no it isn't a big part of this film. You should watch the original where it was a board game with Robin WIlliams.
Watching this without watching the first one with the legendary Robin Williams, is like watching Mocking Jay without watching Hunger Games, or Return of the Jedi without watching Star Wars you miss SOOOOO much!!! And a lot of things would be so much clearer when watched in the proper order!!!
It's not like that at all. Those were made as part of an ongoing story.
This was a remake of the original. And it was more of a re-imagining than a re-telling. There were a handful of hints towards the previous movie, but you don't miss anything if you don't know the old one.
And it was made over 20 years later, for a new generation. The makers did not intend it primarily for people who had seen the 1990s version, and most of the audience wouldn't have seen it.
@@paulkennedy8701 To say this is not an ongoing story is to say The Force Awakens is not a continuation of the Starwars Saga... it is a Sequel using the original board transforming to a new generation yes but initially the same... and Who's hut where they staying in... it is in all intese and purpose a sequel so yes without watching the Classic Robin Williams one you do miss subtle but important references
The original with Robin Williams was a good movie, the CGI may not have been that great but what can you do it was the 90s. They also made an animated series.

Seen a few people mention it, but ill also throw in my opinion for 'Zathura'... its not a direct sequel to the first Jumanji, but more a sidequel, same premise magic game etc, but a shift in theme and pretty decent as a movie surprisingly good practical effects as well.

I’m guessing the word is of French (possibly Creole) origin. Hence “oui” and “je’a” which got corrupted into “wee-jee” in modern American English.
In english most poeple pronounce Ouija "wee-jah" or when I was a kid in the 80s we said "wee-jee"

Jack black playing a teenage girl stole the show. He was fantastic
I think all four did great jobs on their characters. One of the jokes was that Kevin Hart is a little guy. Johnson was great at playing a hypochondriac nerd, but the prize goes to Jack Black playing a self-absorbed teen-aged girl. Red headed hottie Karen Gillian was delightfully awkward.
There _is_ a sequel. No spoilers on how they get back; Awkwafina appears.
7:22 - you thought Hippos were cute? The hippopotamus is a very aggressive wild creature and is the DEADLIEST large land mammal on the planet. It is estimated that hippo attacks kill 500 people each year in Africa. They are territorial, very fast and merciless.
Not to mention the herds dominant male will kill the young of the females that it hasnt sired itself (similar to how male lions do)... which is why the females leave the herd to give birth and raise the young for a while in 'safety'.
