You dont need to have great body or be handsome in South Indian movies. Its more in Bollywood. In south its only required in mass hero movies. But in tamil or malayalam ccontent movies you only need good body when the script requires. Drug addict turns into a healthy lifetyle. For content driven movies like Asuran, Parierum Perumal, Paruthiveeran etc. where people play poor people from rural background then they need to prepare themselves to look like that instead of handsome. Yes thats right. Sorry I didnt stated my point clearly. I mean in South Indian movies they look less on looks but more on acting skills. Unlike Bollywood where hero has to light skinned and comes from rich high caste background in Malayalam and tamil movies hero can be from all backgrounds. For example dhanush he played in his first movies the role of a skinny unnatractive nerd who has in love with a beautiful girl who was in relationship with another handsome one and still dhanush rose to a star with his upcoming films. Or for films like Asuran, Mariyan or Karnan Dhanush plays a hero from a oppressed community where he had to look poor, dark and wild but still those fipms manage to fascinate the audience.
