Good evening sir, I’ve always preferred high rise trousers and it became more en grained after serving in the military as our dress uniform always required a high rise waist. But issue is looking for trousers with a high rise. I do not have the ability to spend too much on a custom suit or trousers. I would like to know where I can find a proper trouser in NYC without going broke. Great content

I used to go to school in the roughest neighborhood in WPB, FL. We used to have in school suspension because if they suspended a student, there was a good chance they would never see that student again. Mr Ndie ran it and this dude reminds me of him. My guy was substantially older, maybe in his late 80’s and he had immigrated from Senegal in his 50’s. With absolutely NOTHING. We were only allowed cold/brown bag lunches but, he would make us eat as if we were in a five star restaurant. We had to use the proper silverware(plastic), hold everything the right way, etc.. It was only ever dudes in there with us so, we basically got a crash course on how to be a gentleman. He would teach us exactly this stuff, how to wear your clothes properly, how to tie a tie, dress shoes, how to use a shoehorn, how to address someone “lower or higher in society” than yourself, how to address ladies, how to properly walk with them or escort them. Basically how to be a gentleman. Since NONE of us had a father or responsible male in our lives, it was all new to us. We were the rejects within a rejected school and that dude poured himself into at least teaching us the basics- he found a purpose. That was over 30 years ago and I still hear his voice whenever I tie my tie. Shout out to Mr Ndie! He’d have to be 115-120 by now but, if anyone could make it, it’d be him.

What would you consider improper dress ?
@@TheDizastarmaster very good question and rather elaborate to respond to. I think it depends on your knowledge and your attention to the obvious. I don’t mind a man wearing shorts, jeans or whatever else he chooses. However when he dresses in a suit things change. It’s fair game so to speak. I expect you to do your part and know what you are wearing and more importantly how to wear it. Just “ trying” isn’t good enough and doesn’t fit the bill. An unflattering, ill fitting suit, a floating collar, loud tie, low rise pants bother me significantly more than cargo shorts and a white T-Shirt. It’s almost like a promise that the man has made and didn’t keep. You don’t need expensive garments nor the most trendy ones which are usually made mainstream and only fit one in a million. Moderately priced however tailored after purchasing are a better investment and statement than you walking into a store, thinking that cash will automatically elevate your looks. Needless to say you need to feel comfortable in your clothes but at times you also need to take one for the team. I don’t show up in Birkenstocks for a wedding and I believe that I am not being overly critical by expecting, demanding the same curtesy. Walking in heels for just a couple of hours can be challenging but I do it willingly and out of respect for the person that I am meeting and the occasion I am attending. Now, do I like baggy cargo shorts on a man, the simple and honest answer is; no! I think they should have never left the dungeon they crawled out of and be drenched in holy water. But like I mentioned earlier, at least I know the man isn’t even trying therefore I can’t and won’t judge or yes, give him a side eye.

I started wearing mid to high waisted trousers not long ago and I honestly cant go back to low waisted ones. High waisted is genuinly a lot more comfortable for me. I also have a somewhat long torso and high waisted pants help balance that out by making my legs appear longer

It is seriously a big problem with modern cuts of trousers getting lower and lower and in most stores there is only one option . The problem is that the distance between the top and the crotch is to little and you can’t really get the zipper low enough to pee any more… weird stupid fashion people screwing up something as simple as pants for god’s sake.

I wear clothes from the late 1800’s. Pants that are above the hips on the waist and suspenders. I’m over weight and appreciate the comfort. A vest covers my belly so I look better. All wins!

Good advice but I believe depends on the physical proportions of the individual. Those with a short torso will have a hard time looking good in high rise trousers and may need their waistband to sit an inch or so below the naval to bring balance to the outfit...

That is a big issue for me with pants, my waist is small but my legs are not, and these shorter rises always look tightly compacted verses the flow you're describing, thanks for this 👍🏻👍🏻

I've never understood low-waisted clothing, I never realized men's clothing was low-waisted too, there is no way that's comfortable, men should have more access to natural waistline clothing so they can choose what is comfortable for them (every time I asked about it I was only told that men's waistlines were naturally lower)
