I don’t understand why there is backlash to her not being blind or partially blind, finding an East Asian actress with martial arts or dance experience would be next to impossible, and Toph is blind in the same way Daredevil is blind, they can see with their powers, it’s a fantasy show not a biopic on a real blind person I also don’t care that she’s 17, Gordon will 15 when they are filming and she is 4,11 and can easily pass for being the same age as Gordon

She looks like Toph! That's a great pick! My other hope is that they work with the actress and have her do Chow Gar Mantis like in the animation. She's a unique earth bender and the only one that uses that style. For the show as a whole - absolutely, they need to take their time - get the best takes so the acting and dialogue actually lands. 10 to 12 episodes seem like a minimum.

I realize that finding a performer who looked like the character, could act, do the physical work AND also be blind would have been difficult, but it would have been impressive. I'm not disappointed with Ms. Cech's casting because I know she can do the role justice.

I don't know if someone have thought and shared this before, but the Ember Island Play needs to be added at least in S03 as something creatively different. I was thinking of having the original voice actors of the animation, BUT instead of just playing on stage, they must do voice acting. Because a mere cosplay just looks forced. So the Ember Island Play needs to be some kind of a traditional Asian puppet show. It's different from the animation, but basically the same thing. Then there must be a scene where the live action cast finally meets the voices behind the play. I think this kind of fan service would help elevate the show, especially the original fans.
As much as I love your sentiment for doing something like this I would actually prefer if they just did the regular play. After all, we would be losing the iconic scene of the Toph actor letting out his sonic wave. The funniest moment in the entire show.

Shorter episodes seasons is also a budgeting issue. With the amount of production design, props, costumes, and VFX, a single episode costs more than an indie movie. So it would make sense they're trying to really trim the fat off the bone, but sadly, that is also one of the main reason why the animation series worked so much more than the live action : We actually got to spend time with these kids and goof around with them. In the live action, with such a drastic shortened timespan, it's kinda not possible anymore. Although, if it was doable with One Piece, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible in Avatar neither.
The One Piece comparisons are not as sound as fans promote. One Piece cast had how many minors performing? Minors performing in projects have additional constraints. Not to excuse the poor writing of dialogue in certain scenes only that both shows didn't have the same working environment.
To this point, it's Netflix, they have the money to make sure things work well. If they can't afford to do longer than 8 episodes seasons then they shouldn't be making television shows. That's just my opinion...🤷♂
Toph is very reluctant to allow anyone else to touch her feet, probably because insensitive handling there would make her deaf to other vibrations and thereby render her helpless (and because they are far more sensitive than other people's feet).

They both have natural cut-off points midway through, with Appa being stolen in Book 2; and with the Day of Black Sun in Book 3. And it could give us 12 or even 16 episodes of the Netflix show per book, if they do do it that way.

The Dream of Netflix doing more than 8 episodes is an illusion. Unless we ask for a K-drama version of ATLA. K-dramas tend to have 16 one hour plus episodes. How does Korea do it.
Definitely something for me to research but I imagine it's because their business with the film industry is a lot smaller than the American side and so they have more time to make things
I'm hopeful. People hate on season 1, but forget season 1 of the original wasn't anything overly special either. What made the original amazing was that season 2 and 3 were greenlit together, so a cohesive story could be written... and that's the exact same situation the adaptation is in. I've watched enough other content featuring the main cast to know we're in good hands... and if the producers can go into this with a finalized story, that's cohesive through both seasons, without any infighting and minimal re-writes, it'll be awesome. Judging from the interviews, what killed season 1 was the development turmoil... and so far, it's all ironed out... we'll just have to see I guess... but I'm hopeful.

It was a comment based on his character in the animation, not my own preference, which is a weird thing to insinuate if you've seen the animation and know how his character behaves mooning over girls.

Next onto katara I would say some of her girl boss is lacking. In scenes that have to represent her strength and courage seem dull and usually bring out the strength of others around her more. When she was practicing in the first episode, she was shy but she was hesitant to communicate her emotions, The katara I know opens up about feelings like a strong grounded and mental-illness less character. Low key, the netflix katara looks like she has depression.(Maybe lack of body language) Then there is the whole bending master thing, I mean in Asian culture especially where I'm from in asia, it's very very important to learn from a guru and respect them.

Ik Miya will make a great Toph. I’ve seen some of her other work she’s an amazing actress. I’m more concerned about Aang earthbending in season 2.

The katara I know opens up about feelings like a strong grounded and mental-illness less character.
Low key, the netflix katara looks like she has depression.(Maybe lack of body language)
Then there is the whole bending master thing, I mean in Asian culture especially where I'm from in asia, it's very very important to learn from a guru and respect them.
