    Yippee! Great to see a new video with your new mini boxes! Love the slides and the 3-D effect, and the world-within-worlds as you're placing the minis into larger boxes. I'd love to see a tutorial on how you cut glass. It adds such a great dimension. Thank you for this video!

      That's a good description..."world within worlds"...exactly what those little boxes transform into...many thanks! I haven't done a glass cutting video...I think there are already several on youtube.

I love it! Your work is amazing and when you're done with a project it looks solid, well-made and, always intriguing.

    Greg,
    In my mind you are nothing short of genius!! Where do you get these ideas? I have tried to create, but nothing comes close to giving me the satisfaction I find from viewing your work. So good to see your videos on here and as always, eager to see more.

    • @Brdlee
      @Brdlee  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, Ben...no real "genius" here, but I certainly like "playing" with all the strange things that I've collected for my boxes! I'm not sure where the ideas come from...all of them kind of an evolution, I guess...something that happens once I get started with each piece. There are also plenty of times when there seems to be no "magic" at all.

  • @badblonde3
    @badblonde3 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Greg - great work! I have been doing some a la Cornell boxes recently - like you have antique toys, vintage objects and photographs that I have collected for decades....Inspiration is not my issue, but the actual construction is quite the learning curve. Do you have a video that can help me with the basics: cutting tools, backing papers for photos to have dimension, gluing the paper and 'wall' surrounds....attaching the different materials....best acid free options, etc.etc....any direction you can give me would be huge time savers....thanks so much!

    I find your videos very useful for thinking about assemblage techniques. I am envious of your sources of materials.
    Do you glue paper images to the glass? If so, do you use your usual silicone glue?
    Thanks again!

  • @jonboyinsan
    @jonboyinsan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Greg , I love your work , I also work with assemblage art as well , may I ask what type of silicon glue do you use , various types of glue as well . Keep up the great work my friend , you are very creative

    • @Brdlee
      @Brdlee  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use clear silicon caulking...the stuff that comes in the big tubes at any hardware store. There are often several varieties available, but I buy the cheapest brand...it all works the same. I've also been using "Yes Paste" for more light-weight paper kinds of collage projects, etc. Thanks for your comments

  • @RebeccaLivingstonCook
    @RebeccaLivingstonCook 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have viewed your video several times and enjoy it more each time! If you don't mind, I have a few questions:
    When you put the glue down for the microscope slides, where do you put it? I know you don't want the glue to show.
    What is the best way that you have found to hang assemblage work? I'm in a gallery, and I'm still trying to figure out how to hang something that is completely flat on the back. I have some cradled board which I have been combining encaustic and assemblage, and so it is heavier than a cardboard box, and it's "inside out", so the flat part is against the wall. Do you have any suggestions? I thought about the wire hanger & eye hooks which I use on other pieces, but then it would not hang flush to the wall.
    Do you make copies of your old photos or do you use the original?

    • @Brdlee
      @Brdlee  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Rebecca Livingston Cook Hi Rebecca...glad you enjoyed the video. It's been awhile since I did the microscope pieces, but the silicone went around the sides of the slide bundle, if that makes any sense, and then it is all hidden within the framing. Hanging the boxes is done in a number of ways. Some boxes allow me to actually drill some screws and add the hanging wire, some boxes need an additional piece of wood glued onto the back which could then accommodate the hanging hardware, and for the very lightweight boxes, I've found there are plastic "sticky" hangers that can be glued on. I may do another video before long with some of these hanging techniques that I use.

    I don’t understand how you get the slides or tubes to stay in place. I do you silicone glue each one in place?

  • @vikjohn

    Hi .. enjoyed this video and your work. Question: I'm a 2D artist but have a project involving lots of objects saved my my mother, me and my kids. I want to create an art piece that will save these objects. How would I go about attaching them.. don't want to glue some of them? I'm researching different techniques of assemblage but not finding ways to preserve the object so to speak. Maybe sewing on.. ??? Any suggestions welcome.

    When you say glued with silicone... should we assume silicone caulk?

    • @Brdlee
      @Brdlee  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I use clear silicone that comes in the big caulking tubes, although I think you can buy it in much smaller tubes...the kind that someone might use to fix a leaky aquarium, etc.
