    11:32 for 3 solid months I did good with a workout routine. When it started getting hot outside it got easy to say “maybe tomorrow” and unfortunately I fell out of the routine. So now I’m working to get back into it again and trying to give myself grace from falling away from the workout

    I love the modern day references when this ancient philosophy is interpreted and translated into relatable examples that we can all relate to in the modern day world, such as reducing Screen Time and other distractions such as the mini social media platforms and notifications that take us away from being in the moment, reluctance to stick to a gym routine and other modern day Translations into this ancient stoicism philosophy that help makes sense to this generation, but the philosophy still doesn’t change.

      Absolutely, it’s amazing how Stoicism still resonates today! Modern distractions like screen time and social media are constant pulls away from the present moment, and it’s refreshing to see how Stoic principles can help us tackle these challenges. Whether it's sticking to healthy habits or setting boundaries with technology, these ancient teachings seem almost tailor-made for today’s struggles. It’s powerful to see that, while the examples may change, the core wisdom of Stoicism remains just as relevant and strong. It’s like Stoicism grows with us, offering timeless guidance no matter the era!

    The interpretation and translation of this ancient philosophy into relatable examples that we can all relate to in the modern world are something I love. Examples include cutting back on screen time and other distractions like notifications and mini social media platforms that take us out of the present, resisting the urge to maintain a regular exercise schedule, and other modern translations into this ancient stoicism philosophy that help make sense to this generation, but the philosophy itself doesn't change.

      Wow, I wasn't told either, the best or the worst, I automataically knew that I would rise to the top rung of that ladder because I worked hard and deserved it. I'm over sixty and still believe that and have lived it everyday.
      Both the worst and the best are lurking around the corner. That's where you make lemmonade out of life's lemons.

    The discussion on practicing discipline in small tasks was particularly motivating. By incorporating simple actions like placing the alarm clock away from the bed and making the bed immediately upon waking, we can train ourselves to embrace discomfort and take control of our mornings.

    Negative visualisation.
    My dad ingrained this in me from a young age, I always thought he was negative man in my youth but he was just speaking from experience and wanted to prepare me to deal with life the best he could, prepare for the worst.
    I’m 33 now and looking back I am so grateful for this lesson as it’s served me well unconsciously and after finding stoicism consciously.

    One problem with expecting the worst so you can be prepared for it (which I do while driving on the freeway), is that that mindset seems to continue by expecting the worst for others too. My sister expects the worst in every situation, and always voices it. I never left her driveway without her saying, "lock your door!", which I always would do anyway, just not soon enough. Everywhere I went, she wasn't sure that was a safe area, be careful where you park, etc. During 2020-2022 she would not let me in her house or sit with me outside because she was prepared to get a virus because I didn't wear a mask. She talked to me while standing in the doorway. She didn't want to take a walk around her mobile home park because she was sure a wild dog might attack her, and when she did she had a special billy club with a leather strap to hit the dog with. She lived there over 30 years and there was never a wild dog around. We know who the people who prepare for the worst are, because they cannot help but demonstrate it in every situation.

      I agree....dont invite negativity in by 'expecting' it....certainly not first thing in the morning 😂.....rather focus on the now and let things unfold. A stoic approach surely is knowing...all is well.....deal with things as they present themselves.

      @RicksCafeAmericana ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s how you approach it.
      I work in an environment where $hi+ happens, and though I operate out of seeing what can be rather than just what is, I also have learned that in order to be better prepared to face difficult challenges, I must ACCEPT the reality that those challenges will emerge because of circumstances and also because of human frailty.
      Ignorance is NOT bliss but Solving hard problems and overcoming enormous challenges rewards us more completely and authentically.
