My husband is Ecuadorian... We were planning to go to his city for his birthday, but unfortunately plans were cancelled real quick because of the outbreak.. So I have been looking for Ecuadorian recipes to cook him some home food since we won't be traveling... I am so glad I found your channel. I have never been to Ecuador, but my in-laws make their beans this way (semi-mashed), and your video was pretty simple.. My husband loved this. He was very happy at dinner! Thanks for sharing. Welcome back! Congratulations on your new baby. That meal looks fabulous, I will try this out but here in Australia, we don't have that red powder you added or that achiote oil. Is it necessary to add, or can I sub with smoked paprika or something?
No paprika will give it a different flavor, just keep it out. I add the powder for a little extra color. Not really for flavor. So if you don't have it will still come out delicious.

Wow…..my family is from Ecuador and this is so not how we make beans. You need fresh garlic and cilantro! Never added butter or cheese? Never Adobe either! NO!
