I remember being away one weekend, and coming home to where unknown to me my whole home area neighborhood threw me for a loop making me wonder if I had a stroke or something. At the never before navigated places and all across town my caning was on fleek as usual. Just my immediate most familiar few blocks and apartment complex up close & personal suddenly felt like one of those carnival funhouses, where every curb drop off and on, and other landmark crevice was bizarre. I was a dizzy mess. I knew the earth had shifted itself some due to the coincidence of the March 11, 2011 tsunami, yet, in the small town street with old style steps and no curbcuts, curb drop offs and edges of sidewalks and business porch verticals felt like expected. apparently a new blacktop was applied but more sloppily than previous ones ever had been done. All my neighborhood verticals were wildly smooshed up to the edges non uniformly, at gradual wave shaped drops that were harder to perceive with even the pencil tip and very trippable all over the place for lack of definition, or tiny random heights of curb lips if some were randomly still there. The parking spots were all the same except the vertical edges. Your question of changes made me think of that. The sighted people hadn't noticed anything different, except newer looking blacktop. The smooshed up perimeters didn't look different or figure into their visual stepping on or off the sidewalks or road edges.
Another great interview, Carrie. Thanks. All of their apps sounds interesting. Too bad that BenVision and SpeakAboo are only available on IOS. Maybe another question you should ask all app developers is how they go about prioritizing their work / support relative to mbile operating systems? Why is Android so often getting the short end of the stick in these deliberations? Thanks for keeping us Android folks in mind.
