„rich people get ozempic, poor people get body positivity“
what a line
As if rich people can’t afford healthy diet that makes people fat in the first place…
I never actually thought about it that way beforehand; mind was blown
Let’s be honest, it’s a retarted line. You know what everyone gets? A choice, every day, to eat more healthy, eat less, do more exercising, … It’s so so stupid lazy people think there’s only drugs for solving problems. When in reality ozempic is very very unhealthy.

Cartman wanting to be skinny just so people can't have an easy way to make fun of him is definitely a Cartman thing to do
I Agree
What got me about that whole thing was that there are plenty of other things to make fun of him for 👀
Fr, he’s racist and antisemitic and the only thing his friends have against him is him being fat
Surprising he didn’t do it before
Him enjoying it just the same when they agree to simply not mock fat people reminds me of Eric getting a fat scooter. He will always find something to gain from the goodwill of others.
As a fat person I relate

The most unrealistic part of this special is Shelly being able to go to school in a crop top without being sent home from dress code
Elementary schools are typically more lax about dress code, and given that Shelly comes out of South Park elementary here, she’s probably a fifth grader.
At a School in a town like South Park, probably. But most schools really don't give a shit. I remember moving from a school that required belts, haircuts, and tucked in shirts, to one that didn't enforce a dress code at all.
@@chatman1702fine with the other one. But tucked in shirt? Really?
Edit: man people really got riled up with this. Look I miss read it and saw haircut as something else. Can't remember what though.
And honestly, unless it's sports wear, any pants without belts outside looks shit
Dress codes are looser than when I was a teen, and even then one school allowed beards

My only critique of this special is I wish that Cartman's defense only worked in his dream. Like, in reality, his fatness is so irrelevant to why people hate him. And he's definitely got other insecurities they can roast him for. Characters have punched him for less.
I could see it either way but I find the absurdity of his dream actually being accurate rlly funny. Like when he was right abt Kyle having jew gold or Kenny’s family having a security robot
@@tiablue9106 That's fair. To your point, both of those examples are Really funny. Don't know why this one pulled me out of it so much. Maybe I just like when Cartman gets his comeuppance 😂.

it was a huge surprise to just get this nugget of youtuber lore dropped
i used to dislike South Park for their edgy humor, but the more video essays i watch about it makes me realize the creators really do care about their characters, and they care about sending a message with depth. Hearing the show creator actually gain weight and use ozempic himself made me respect the show a lot more.
I had thought South Park was like the final boss of adult animation like brickleberry lol
No. It’s good. Been watching it since I was 12. My great grandmother accidentally introduced me to it 24 years ago. She used to call it “those loud mouthed characters”. She burst into hysterical laughter when she saw the old Chinpokomon episode. Good times.
South Park pulls no punches. It isn’t afraid to go after anyone and be extremely crude. But you can tell Matt & Trey have points to make when they make these episodes, like when they decided to go all out on Scientology

The most shocking part of this special was finding out americans get ads for prescription drugs????? Im from the UK and that sounds absolutely insane to me
I know there is your doctor but how do you find out what medication to ask about considering there are like a million different ones
@@jsmith3946 honestly you'll usually just rely on your doctor to be honest and good at their job to prescribe you whatever medication they think is best for whatever your issue is at the time. If not then you have to do your own research about medication but doctors here can be very difficult if you're asking for a specific medication cos it isn't very typical to do that, so they'll usually assume you want that medication for a bad reason like to sell it
Yeah. It's fucking nuts.
@@jsmith3946 We rely on actual health professionals to know which drugs we need or whether we need them at all. We don't have drug hoes swanning about wards trying tk flick the latest drug, or have ads on TV or yt trying to get us to poster our doctors to prescribe us drugs.
How will I know I have a problem if I don't see an advert that starts in black and white and shows people being depressed like me until they take this drug and then everything turns into color and there's a puppy and I have a girlfriend now?
The song is a parody of the opening to Zack Snyders Dawn of the Dead, which has a Johnny Cash song playing to images of the zombie virus spreading through news stations. Also when Randy takes his first dose, his tripping is a parody of The Lost Boys when Michael drinks blood for the first time, therefore his addiction is starting as he turns into a vampire, even the same song playing.

I sometimes cannot do anything because of the pain, and I look on the outside like a "normal person".
Hoping I can get seen by a neurologist finally to see if they can find anything.
But so far even that's been a difficult task due to the health care system (Europe).

The insurance/health care in the US is just like the rehab circle loop in Florida. The “Florida shuffle”. Every company is in bed with the other companies that work with them. But it’s such a conflict of interest that they just have you going in circles while you’re just trying to get better/survive. Something really has to be changed about ALL of it.
In the end it's about the companies getting what they want and not what customers benefit from. That's the reality when you let them do their bidding, they'll just sew a perfect net to generate the biggest amount of profit possible at the cost of the common people.
Florida is such a funny state. Number 1 in the country for education. Ranks near the bottom for any type of healthcare.
My home state of Kentucky is number 1 in adult mental health care and 32 for juvenile mental health care for an average of 11th overall. I can’t say for health care in general though.
@@princesspikachu3915 Florida is literally the wildest lol. Like just the fact they have “Florida man” is wild enough lol
Not to mention, when i talk to health insurances as a customer, the person i talk to usually has no idea what there doing.
Compare that to when id call them a few years ago as pharmacy tech, they werent nearly as incompetent.
So the average person, who doesn't deal with health insurance on a regular basis get the morons. Meanwhile, the people more familiar to the system get the good ones.
Ive had a lot of situations where, if i wasnt familiar with the system, nobody would have any idea what to do. For example, my insurance once told me prescriptions cant have secondary insurances. Most people aren't as familiar with health insurance as i am. How are they supposed to resond to that?
Dude it really sucks in Tennessee too. One of my in laws from California (who has been to rehab and has very bad, enabler habits) wants to help open up clinics in the rich areas… whereas our jail is almost halfway full of people that desperately need mental health care and there’s not a single place to send them… the only place in middle Tn has like 16 beds and it takes forever to get in. So no one’s getting help, we’re imprisoning people in crisis or drug addiction with NO actual help available and none of our politicians want to even talk about it. The only people interested are the ones that think they can make money off of this crisis.

I'm British.
I've had 2 surgeries, a year in hospital, dozens of scans and procedures and on and on and on.
Because i can't work until this is sorted, the government pays me money so i can do more then just sit at home waiting for the next procedure.
This is free.
Yes i pay taxes.
The NHS costs about 2% of my salary. Maybe 5%?
Yeah, you don't actually have to do what you do, America.
We know that, trust me.
There are a few issues though. Our voting is done per person, so no one actually knows what everyone else voted for, so if the government says "looks like the majority voted to not change anything" we basically have to take them at their word, because they WILL lie to us about it otherwise. We would need completely open voting to change that.
Secondly, the bribes from the medical industry stops most politicians from doing anything on their end. Note: Medical industry, not medical professionals. The people working as doctors/nurses/pharmacists/etc. are usually all for changing things to be better for us. It's the corporate layer where they don't give a crap and would rather see us die than lose any of the money they get from us.
We can only do so much without going the French route. Though I do love the sense of style that it takes to just put one outside of the building in full view like that.
We pay higher taxes indirectly, but as long as minorities don't get affordable Healthcare it's a sacrifice America is willing to make!
If you want to kill anything for regular citizens, convince them black people will benefit from it and it'll fail.
It doesnt help we have way more people. Plus literally 50 different states that are basically their own countries. The taxes would be way higher, eapecially with the already basic medical taxes we already pay, we bearly have any money to spare for additional taxes. Most people go to the hospital roughly once a year even less then if you actually take care of yourself.

Eh, there's more of us than yours think.
UK: 67 million
US: 333 million
And you have much more funds per person.
GDP per capita:
UK: $46,000
US: $76,000
We, in the UK, spend about 5% of our income towards the National Health Service.
Americans pay a lot more as a percentage towards your insurance.
So, whenever you think about this or discuss it, remember it's not a financial limitation and there's a good chance you'll save money on your monthly income.
As for the 50 states thing, remember who they work for and who can vote them out don't take, "but it's so haaaaaaard" as an excuse from them! 😉

As someone with a chronic illness who is constantly having to deal with the Healthcare system I can say that this episode was depicted so well that I was actually getting anxious waiting to see if cartman would get approved for his meds
i think it was a bit weird how nice kyle was to cartman through the whole episode, like i know he 'guilt tripped' kyle at the start but i think kyle could see through him by now. but i do think it worked well for the plot so i can't complain
Many ppl found that weird too, but you have to remember that, after all, the main four are best friends. Yes, half the time Kyle and Cartman are fighting, but the other half they are having fun as a group. Also, SP is no Breaking Bad, it's a comedy show so it doesn't worry too much about the consistency of a character's actions (especially if the writers consider that the plot is more important)
I always thought it was more Kyle helping Cartman out of principle more than him actually being nice
Kyle hates injustice in all forms, that’s all the motivation he needs usually
Kyle has always cared a lot abt cartman’s health/weight. Like when he cared more abt Cartman crapping blood than Ike being possessed, when cartman got that mobility scooter, etc. He rlly thought Cartman wanted to lose weight for the right reason lol and as the other comments said, Kyle also hates injustice of any kind so no matter what he feels abt Cartman he wouldn’t want him and many other ppl getting cheated out of help they deserve
If i'm being totally honest. I think this is my favorite special that they've released so far maybe besides the pandemic special. Everybody was themselves and acted without being forced while making sure they had all of the main characters. none of them had a role more important than the others (kinda like Blooms mentions in the video) and it was cool to see them all there, the animation was fucking awesome especially the truck chase scene and they had some really funny jokes as well. i really loved this special and i'm so glad that i got to see it the day it came out. the ending was amazing. Eric got what he wanted and it was hilarious.
Another fact about Cartman's shift in perspective about weight-loss: He can do it this way without any effort - simply take a shot to lose weight - I don't think that Cartman would embrace it if it took hard work lol.

And THAT American healthcare system song, need I say more than what Blooms already said about it in this video. XD Definitely one of the funniest Butters songs.
This special was definitely a big home run for South Park’s 2024 start. Can’t wait to see what they have for the other special and the rest of the season to come. And it IS an election year, so brace yourselves….
Super cool to learn you are a RN as I am working to get my RN license and was looking at working at psych. Love the videos keep up the great work!
3:40 The opening sequence is a reference to 2004's Dawn of the Dead, which also has an opening with a johnny cash song, flash cuts of media and things seen through microscopes. which makes sense because south park once did an episode entirely about 2004's dawn of the dead (the homeless one)
As someone on Ozempic (for diabetes), well, this was an episode. Ozempic is made for Type 2 Diabetes, not obesity. A major part of why Ozempic is so expensive is because all of these types of people are trying to get it, thinking it in some magical weight loss drug. I did wonder if people would get the whole "no appetite" thing Randy had while not really explaining that it kills your appetite. Maybe it was easy enough for people to piece together?
Yeah was kinda hoping that the episode would show how its weight loss craze would impact those the drug is meant for but it didn’t.
@@Dratspider That just reminded me - Scott Malkinson. I'm rather shocked he wasn't there at all when his whole identity is that he is diabetic. They could have had a sub plot about what you mentioned with him
@@AlexOvTheAbyss I think scott is noted as a type one dibetic? Which type ones don't use/need ozempic...Atleast as a type one Ive never been asked/talked to about ozempic
@@germyforev4495 Ah, true. Didn't think of that
Also, Cartman couldn't finish his cereal bomb was a BIG hint, i don't think references like those would fly over peoples head, at least it would make you more invested to do your own research.
Thin Cartman was so hilarious when he was making fun of Kyle and co as they had no comeback to his thin self
Probably my favorite Cartman next to Jewish Cartman and the airsoft one.
Fun fact that I haven’t seen anyone else point out. The intro song is a parody of Johnny Cash’s “When the Man Comes Around” which was used as the opening song for 2004’s Dawn of the Dead remake. Hence why this specials opening has an eerie horror vibe
Finding the insurance guy in the truck is actually such a crazy moment; truly speaks about the American healthcare system
Lizzo literally paid by food companies to talk about being fat is positive, South Park knows fr fr
Got any proof or you just talking shit?
@@chill_will9816 talking shit
@@chill_will9816 I hate being that guy, but Kellogs paid her to make a special K commercial.
@@walrusArmageddon Isn't Special K a diet cereal? I'd count it if she was out there fronting some Frosted Flakes with Tony the Tiger, talking about "they greeeee-at!" and shit.
@chill_will9816 I had to Google the ingredients (thank god I didn't get the other special k) and while it's a majority rice and wholewheat flour it seems like its more meant to be nutritious than a diet cereal. The only sugar seems to be barley sugar at 5% which is pretty good tbh, but I wouldn't personally call it diet. Now I'll wait for a nutritionist to tell me I'm 100% wrong and you're correct lol
Blooms is on the dot. Hes so speedy with it.
The US healthcare system isn't just bad, it's almost criminal. Standard policy is the more important something is the less likely you are to get your insurance to cover it. If you want something like a P pump it's covered. However if you need a heart transplant or bypass the company will delay as long as possible hoping you die before the claims go through.
As a pharmacist I loved this special cause it highlights the truly sad nature of our healthcare system that made me laugh about some of the saddest aspects of my job
My dad's on ozempic for his diabetes the use of it as a weight loss drug makes it hard for him to get it
If it brings profit they'll easily let anyone die for the sake of it. Capitalism, supply and demand.
Went to school for a medical BSA & I hate healthcare now. I can't work there. It's awful
Bigger, Longer, and Uncut is coming back to my theater, I cant wait to watch it!
Another joke was that the whole sequence of Randy taking ozempic is a parody of The Lost Boys
Great video as always blooms
In Norway we got co-pay up to about $360 usd after that its free for healthcare. Pretty nice.
Yeah here I'm through a insurance that I'm paying $0 but have to pay $5k out of pocket before they even cover (they still cover some) 80%. The paid version still has a $3,200 out of pocket expense and literally is the same coverage so I ended up doing the "Free" one since I usually don't go to the doctor for anything but a check up and just use my HSA to cover it.
Definitely not the worse thing for my current situation but it definitely could be better like yours.
longtime fan! Hearing that you are an RN is amazing, I am currently pursuing my BSN and the fact that you can do such amazing work and still find time to make these videos as a hobby and for our entertainment gives me a lot of hope that I can work as a nurse and still have a holistic life
I love the chase scene in this episode as South Park is parodying off Mad Max Road Warrior, which they haven't done roughly since 2004 with Butters being Lord Humungus and the "Street Warrior" Poster in Stan's room
I loved this special a ton. It was very fun. Very funny and did more than the last ones in talking about a current issue at hand
Especially when hearing celebrities are basically using these shots to stay looking fit while people that actually have medical issues have to live with it. So messed up
Trey gaining a lot of weight just for a bit reminds me of Rob McElhenney doing the same thing for a season long joke in Always Sunny
It was Trey not Matt

always love your south park vids. thank ye
The opening is mimicking the opening of the remake of Dawn of the Dead
Homie was trying Lizzo and the sideeffects kept him from posting sonner😢

Blooms being a RN is something i wasn’t expecting but am also not surprised about.
Being made fun of on South Park is an honor and really shows you've made it
In that case, i am pretty sure, Big Pharma, Big Sugar, and Big Insurance are all feeling very much honored 🤣
I find that they should ask permission first so they know the joke is coming. This way they don't have to be in denial about things that ate actually true (physical appearance, behavior etc.)
@@erikstensaas1202 Most idiotic thing i've ever heard. that completely goes against the point of making fun of someone and just turns into ego stroking
@@erikstensaas1202 don’t try and write any satirical comedy please.

didn't even realise they released another special till this video tbh
i’ve been checking youtube everyday for your video omg finally
This video was great to watch while recovering from surgery earlier today keep up the great work blooms
the kyman comment is so funny bc right before watching the ep my roommate was teasing me for being a big kyman shipper in high school and then while we were watching the episode they were like "damn... if i was a gay man id so be into this ship i get it" and i was like NO STOP
Matt and Trey knew what they were doing 🤣🤣
You know what's funny?
This special came out during Kyman week on Twitter.😂😂
your friend’s a little confused but he got the spirit 😅 being gay has nothing to do with appreciating a ship, straight or not haha, but I’m glad he could see it i guess 😂😂

6:18 part, you could also have insurance that does not even cover it at all.
i went thru the diagnosis of a wrist disease and the entire part where they go from specialist to specialist to doctor to doctor WAS SO REAL, the amount of appointments i had until i finally had a solution was insane 😭 they really hit it on the nose as perfectly as possible
