Here are 7 reasons why I chose Colombia as an expat digital nomad over other countries around the world. If you're a digital nomad or have the ability to become one, leaving America for a place where you're treated better is the best decision you can make. I left America a while ago and now I'm an expat living in Medellin Colombia full time. If you're looking for one of the best places to live as a digital nomad, then I think moving to Colombia is a great choice that you won't regret. Colombia is one of the cheapest countries to live as a digital nomad, it has a great culture, it's really close to the States and the timezone works perfectly if you're doing business in the US.

The first thing is to be there where you are welcome and most people treat you well, friendly, as if you were a local. In general, in Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and other European countries, people are very rude and intolerant.

@TheGiantTraveler1 Hey man, I'm a US citizen with Colombian permanent residency, I met my wife in Cali, kids born in Colombia (dual nationals), we moved to Tunja for safety reasons but decided to move back to the US so my wife could get US citizenship, that milestone happened. Now we are thinking about moving back to Colombia, Tunja is not on the list. What part of Colombia would you choose if you were a family? Manizales, La Ceja, El Retiro or somewhere else if your digi nomad income was about 3500 USD a month net? Thanks brother!!

@@nampmaljr9294 I like outside of Medellin. Llano Grande, Río Negro, El Retiro just to name to name a few.

You have good reasons to explain why you like to live in Colombia. But, I saw you are moving from Medellín.

Bangkok has a 12 hours time differance. 12 noon in Columbia is midnight in Bangkok. Will make it tough to do anything with the stock market. Argentina is actually ahead of New York so you can sleep in...

Thank you for sharing that you were on a rentista visa. I’m officially a landlord today, however just breaking even . I have other sources of income plus I’ll be teaching for a U.S. company , not teaching English for Chinese (thank the lord for that one). I’ll be A okay.
I just need to get versed on the taxation part. I don’t know enough. I’ll find out more hopefully when I’m there, it doesn’t look desirable but there may be options I’m unaware of.

I think Ukraine should be really nice to live in (after the war). Before the war it was really safe.
I have never been there but plan to go after the war.

Ran into an Ex-pat while exploring Laureles (one of the barios of Medellin) last week, and he had lived in Ecuador for 5 years before settling in Laureles. He said it lacked the infrastructure of Colombia (for example, high speed internet is a rarity). He was having a beer with another ex-pat and both said that Medellin, and Laureles in particular was the best place to live and they would never go back to the US. Both had long term Colombian GFs and were just loving it there.

I can vouch for Europeans being weird and rude, I was in Barcelona and it's very expensive with rude people. Italians are some of the coolest Europeans tho I visited numerous cities in Italy and the people there are awesome.
