    For bands/entertainers that use backing tracks, CQ range needs a better player. It needs the possibility to make playlists from the unit, to reorder tracks on the fly, to set auto next or stop and also play at least wav/mp3. There are mixers in the same price range that do some of it (Ui24r is one example, I think the new Yamaha DM3 too), and Shirley it's not a big processing budget killer to add that.
    It would be a self-contained band mixer for those that play with tracks, without the need of external hardware.

    So excited by almost everything about this unit and was getting ready to buy one. However, lack of DCA/Mute Groups is a huge miss in my opinion. I hope this is available in a future update. Looking forward to reviewing the documentation to understand scene and show capabilities better. Otherwise, looks very impressive.

      Hello usfredfam,
      Along with its FPGA processing capabilities at 96kHz, CQ integrates many new features that were thought and designed for our users experience.
      Other possible features were not included in order to be able to incorporate new ones.
      For further details, feel free to contact Support@allen-heath.com

      Let me answer for A&H. "We can't cannibalize our professional product lines by putting those features in a consumer-grade product." They're trying to avoid what Apple's done with their M2 MacAir. It's so damn good, why would you buy a Pro?

    • @usfredfam
      @usfredfam ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rbrianharrislol. I know there is potentially some truth in this but mute groups and DCA’s are not a professional class/costly feature at this point. They can be found in similar style mixers at even lower price points than the CQ. I seriously hope AH can bring this feature with a software update.

We have runners that go between rooms as needed. A quick lock feature would be greatly helpful to ensure the only people making changes are the people on our staff.

    I just got mine and I have to say, the no subgroups/mute groups is a BIG HOLE in the entire package. Also, you would think via ipad the control available on each page would be more but its just like the screen on the unit. one page is basically faders while another page is processing. I understand the predicament on the 7" touch but i don't on the ipad. their is plenty of space to have all available. as it is, i would say the soundcraft unit is friendlier. however, doesnt sound nearly as good.

    47:00 you dont need a big version because you can easily hook multiple units together with xlr cables even though each unit is self contained. Use the 20B as a stage box. No need for big version.

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I'm afraid this is incorrect.
      The CQ-20B has the architecture of a console, and therefore preamp control is only available directly from it; Which automatically loses the purpose of using it as a "stage box", if you require any clarification, kindly contact Support@allen-heath.com directly.
      Thanks,
      Rafael

    • @TerenceKearns
      @TerenceKearns ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I realise you'd need to control it independently, I should have said you'd be able to use it "as though it was" a stage box which it isn't because it's not designed to be an extension of an existing console. Semantics. However, it solves the problem of having more inputs available - which is the primary reason for having a "big version". @@AllenandHeathUK

And maybe most importantly: From what you explained and how you put things, I get the feeling that A&H is a company I can trust. The more stuff I buy, the more important this becomes to me. Just having a very bad experience with Tascam, and of what use is a potentially good product if they don't have proper support or care to iron out flaws? Yes a CQ extreme as replacement of QU would be exactly what we need.
    The CQ extreme should come with the 7” screen, 3 rotary knobs and perhaps 4 soft buttons.
    The CQ extreme still comes with the 20B mix of inputs and outputs (mostly XLR) onboard, but adds D-snake or S-snake for a grand total of 24 and 32 channels. The CQ extreme should remain smaller than the SQ5 and QU16. So max of 12 faders. Using banks you can have 3 or 4 banks of 8 physical input faders. 3 or 4 banks of 3 output faders (mix, fx) and one dedicated mainLR fader. This is my dreammixer l, especially at a 2250 pricepoint

      Hi SamSundar, Alongside the Main LR, the CQ has 6 outputs which can be setup as pre or post fader. So yes, you can setup a completely different mix for your stream, or you could use a post fade mix which would follow send levels to the main LR. You can then patch any stereo outputs to USB channels for streaming. Thanks! Keith.

      Hi Chris,
      For extended fader control the CQ would first need to have full MIDI implementation, which could then be used in conjunction with a third-party controller (with faders). Unfortunately, this is not some thing that is currently available on CQ.
      However, this is something that has been request previously and is being considered. If you would also like to request this, please drop us a message on the CQ feature request form and be sure to include detailed information of what you would like/expect from MIDI implementation.

    Curious if there’s potential for allowing the USB connections to interface with the app? Like using the iPad camera usb adapter and plugging it into the mixer to use the iPad app with the desk…

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @VoksyOfficial - The USB-B connection (with the CQ as the host) is for audio, while all control messaging is over a network connection. So this is not possible. However, it *is* possible to use a network adaptor/dongle to connect a tablet directly to the network port for wired control. We can't guarantee that all network adaptors will work, but the CQ features an auto address feature to allow for direct connection to a device running SQ-MixPad. Cheers! Keith.

I've noted it for consideration in a future update. CQ records WAV at 96kHz or 48kHz, so any playback file should be the same as this.

    Hello, I recently purchased the CQ-20B and I've noticed that while I can log out from any screen in the App, I can only shut down the unit from the Home screen. However, I've encountered an issue. After shutting down the unit from the Home screen and reconnecting to it, the unit powers on but there is no sound, and the indicator light that signifies the unit is on remains off. Consequently, I have to unplug the power cable and then plug it back in for the unit to properly turn on and produce sound through the speakers.
    My question is, once I log in to the unit, is there a way to control the output of the unit from the App, thereby avoiding the need to disconnect and reconnect the power cable? I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Thank you.

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi,
      The purpose of the shutdown button is to give a soft shutdown before powering off the unit. Therefore, powering off the unit from the mains completes this process. The unit must be power cycled to then reboot back into the system. There is no way to action this remotely with an app.

      Hi,
      The Feedback assistant is used to auto attenuate any rouge frequencies. If you want to check the peak frequencies yourself, then you would need to use the Built-in RTA with is available for each output, this can be switched in and/or out.
      If you are wanting ring out wedges yourself, you probably want to use the RTA with the 20-band GEQ. FYI you can’t use the GEQ in conjunction with the feedback assistant.

      Hi Lubomir, The CQ-18T has 16 mono input channels and 3 stereo input channels, this is the maximum number of channels which can be processed, mixed and routed around the core. So when returning from USB, you are indeed choosing to use them up by sourcing from USB instead of their 'normal' input. If you need more channels to the mix, you would be looking at our Qu or SQ ranges instead. Thanks, Keith.

    I don't care as much for the price but for the difference in real life functionality.
    I hope to see all of the Behringer X18 functionalities like mute groups and extended routing added in a future update so we can make an easy choice to spend extra £500 for a better device instead of just spending the difference in price on a 13" Tablet for which Behringer X18 is really made for. The upstream USB is sourced from the inputs. The upstream source point can be configured to route post-EQ on the mixer’s config page.
      The Analogue outputs each have a dedicated EQ that can run either as 4-band parametric, plus,16-band FBA, or 20-band graphic.

    Would it be make trs to a single female trs or would I need two male TS to a single TRS female.
    Edit got my unit and I had to use a dual male TS to a single femal trs cable to have true stereo. Sounds great.

    Can I have some sends to an aux be pre-fader (so I can have them at -∞ for the Main LR house mix but present in the aux mix) while others are post-fader (so turning them down in the Main LR house mix affects the aux mix as well, e.g. switching to a new singer who's much louder than the last)? Or is that what subgroups would be for? All I can see in these videos & the demo app is the option for an aux mix to be pre-fader or post-fader overall.

      The ‘Input sends Level’ is assigned to the output, therefore, I’m afraid that it will only work globally for all input channels assigned to that Aux.

      Hi Daniel, I would have been talking about the FX Assist which is available on many of the Reverbs and Delays in the CQ. One of the options on delays is 'Space', which gives the direct signal 'space' to come through by reducing the level/intensity of the wet delay signal when there is dry signal. Hope this helps! Hello Tiago,
      They are certainly different products in many ways. In terms of sound quality, the Qu range works at 48kHz, while the CQ range works at 96kHz and uses an FPGA processor, that means that the conversion of analogue to digital is better on CQ due to the higher Sample Rate.

    Could something like Waves SuperRack Performer or Live Professor be routed to use with the CQ series? It would require some patching/routing options that I'm not sure the CQ series has.

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Jerry,
      It is possible to send audio to/from the CQ over USB-B, but as the inserts are for internal FX units only, you would need to use a channel to return any signals. One way to do this would be to route signals out to USB-B separately, then sum them in the computer before returning to the dedicated USB stereo channel. I should also point out that USB has a relatively high latency, so is not ideal for any inline processing (e.g. compression or EQ), but ok for FX that are already time based, like delays or reverbs.
      For integration of external processing, you'd really want to be looking at the SQ series, where you have full insert capability along with I/O Port options (e.g. Waves with a Waves server for low latency processing).
      Thanks, Keith.

      There are no MIDI faders in the CQ to use with DAW Control (which mainly allows use of motorised faders on other ranges for control of DAW faders), but you *can* use the built-in audio interface to record multitrack audio straight to a DAW.
      There is no option for different RTA display at the moment, but you could suggest it on our digital community (community.allen-heath.com/forums/forum/cq/cq-feature-suggestions) and if it's something a lot of people are after we will look into it more :)

    Seems like a very neat little device! Not sure if this has been answered, but will it be possible in the future to exchange the gate of a channel to an expander? There certainly seems to be room in the GUI for that and they are functionally very close to each other. But an expander suits my applications a lot better as I mix a lot of speech and amateur singing with very varying volume levels and the sudden drop in volume level from a gate is difficult to incorporate to my mix.

      Space in the GUI is not quite the main reason when adding or implementing features on a product, but rather the processing space and processing capacity available.

      You can record up to 16 channels + Output buses directly into an SD card or stream to a computer/DAW over USB B connection.
      Cheers,
      Rafael

      I have yet to get confirmation. I can use this bascially like protools, but without a computer? I can record a drum track, then go back and record another track over it an hour later? then later record another track? So this effectively replaces thew Tascam recording mixers that came out a couple years ago? This looks incredible but you might want to make a video showcasing this if it is indeed possible.@@AllenandHeathUK

      @AllenandHeathUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello John,
      The mixer can be used as an Interface by connecting it with your computer through its USB B port (Mac or Windows PC), this will allows you to send the signals from the mixer into the computer to be tracked on your DAW.
      Alternatively, you may also record directly on an SD Card choosing which channels are to be recorded.
      However, CQ will not display the recording as a DAW, it will simply record and automatically save the tracks on the storage device.

      Hi Enteogeniki,
      Just like the ZED-16FX, you can connect external FX using the outputs to go to an FX unit and then return the FX signal to an input channel. The 12T has two FX units built-in however, and both the 18T and 20B have 4 each!

    Hi I'm very interested in buying the CQ18. My only concern is: One of the features I need on a digital mixer is that I can deactivate Each eq band individually. So let's say I boosted the highs by 3dB, And now for temporary I want it to zero, I would just need to touch/press the on/off button of the high freq, and the high eq freq will be deactivated, and now when I want it back to 3dB, I just need to touch the button again, and it becomes activated and boosted 3dB, without needing to move the fader again. I was looking at the user manual and didn't seem to find this feature, do you know if this feature exists or will at least become available in future updates? At least If I know that in the future updates it will become available then I would run and buy it. (I'm scared to wait, it's almost gone in my area) Thank you.

      Hello Yosef,
      This is not possible, I'm afraid.
      You can engage or disengage the entire EQ processor, but you can't do this individually per frequency band.

    Can you do parallel processing like parallel compression or sidechaining with this mixer?

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Spiros,
      Compressor in CQ does not include a side chain feature on them, however, a parallel compression can be done manually be entering the same signal into two different Input sockets and compressing only one.
      Please note that Input channels/input sockets are fixed, therefore, you will need to do this through a splitter of signal at the Input.
      Thank you,
      Rafael

    • @AllenandHeathUK
      @AllenandHeathUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Franco,
      A DAW is a Digital Audio Workstation, a console doesn't work as a DAW because this is most likely a software. The CQ can, however, be used as an interface in order to send or receive audio signals to and from a DAW, by connecting the CQ console into your computer.
