Why are these Priests not excommunicated for these actions?
It's not an easy process. The pope has to go after the bishop, and that can be a lengthy process. The Vigano excommunication, that's been in the works for a while.
@@Di_bearI agree. But also, I wonder why the Church can’t expedite this process. Obviously it’s not the same gravity as defying the seal of confession, but that is an automatic excommunication. Why can’t the Church make this a quicker excommunication as well? Like you don’t need a ton of investigating to prove someone defied the seal, and in most cases this is pretty obvious as well.

I am ashamed to say this story comes out of a church I’ve often attended mass at in New York. St. Paul’s is the mother church of the Paulist Fathers - though they are great community builders, some priests of their order are egregiously transgressive in their approach to “social issues”. There is a large LGBTQ population at the church (given where it is situated in Manhattan) so I know it’s “in the culture” there.
FWIW, the “God is Trans” thing was a student artwork from the neighboring Jesuit-run Fordham University. I have no idea how a pastor could’ve approved its hanging in the church, but at least it wasn’t an original work…
Isn't this the same parish that Paulists give some controversial homily?

My former parish changed their website to include an LGB etc tab. I left. The parish is dying. A house left to them desolate. Of course the justification is 'we want to bring ppl back into church'. Ok. Even if i believe that veneer, which i didnt, why just gays? Why not a tab for the lapsed? For the disabled who cant get to mass regularly, which is not a sin obviously? Why not for reformed criminals? Why not for those struggling with porn addiction? Why single out this one species of sin and reach out to that specifically? We all know why.

No surprise it was from an NYC parish. If it weren't, I'd guess it be an LA parish.
As a Protestant. We are often attacked for having personal interpretation as a problem. My point has always been. Well in my Church we do not tolerate this kind of thing. You are disciplined for it. In my Church you would be told to stop, recant or you will be removed. The Catholic Church permits this often. How is this any different than the Protestant problem? It is the same except we remove the problem not ignore it.
The Catholic Church is different because there are concrete dogmas that every Catholic HAS to agree with. These people are not following the teachings of the Church, and are directly disobeying them.
@ComiCross precisely. They are bad Catholics. You can call someone a bad Catholic because they don't follow the church's teachings but there is no such thing as a bad Protestant
all the mainline Protestant Churches fell to liberal heretics, so your one to throw stones. The Catholic Church does not permit it, however it takes forever for them to make a decision. Strongly worded letters are in order untill a excommuniation is enacted and that can take years. That one priest who openly came out as gay was immediately excommunicated. These liberal heretics are towing the line by saying "we are just accepting the sinner not the sin" which is the only resason they havent be excommunicated
