This is the third Bingo documentary I've watched in the past two days, it's fascinating and I don't really know why. I think it's the people playing it that's so fascinating.
This is literally the greatest documentary i've ever seen, this little piece of cinema has changed my life. Thank you for making this & thank the algorithm for suggesting this.
GREAT documentary! I worked in a bingo hall as a young teenager, memories of the cloud of cigarette smoke hanging over the players and nipping off for a can of beer after the national game, great days!
It’s addictive. It’s gambling. The owners of these places are making a killing. It’s like the casino owners in Vegas. They are smiling all the way to the bank. But I also think this keeps some old people occupied. So they don’t go crazy. Loneliness too. So they do this.
Just a long game of chance. No real skill needed. It is a social gathering for them. The ones that can afford it I’m fine with. It’s the people with no money putting the last $50 they have and if the hope, pray, and rub the lucky cup all will be paid and happy and they never win. Waste of money.
@@steveschu it’s all also occult and superstitious (all the little trinkets they have thinking it’ll help them win). Hence the diabolical aspect. Putting your faith, hope, or charity in anything other than God, let alone an addictive and ultimately meaningless pursuit of material and temporal gain is idolatrous.
I was born in 1982 and when I was watching this in my mind I was thinking the footage came from 1990-1994 ish I was surprised by 1999. But these were vintage places with vintage ppl even for that time so it can be deceiving I guess.
I’ve never played, I feel like I’m too young yet to fit in. I always think of that Roseanne episode from the 90s, she got obsessed and brings all these good luck tokens and icons. She says it’s just for fun, and you can have one of her lighters if you want, so someone grabs one and she goes NOT THE YELLOW ONE!
Some ladies got in a fight over seats at a bingo event I helped with once. It was silly, they weren't young either lol. I had no idea how huge Bingo really is.
Me either... I was looking up things about how to do Bingo for a Fundraiser... and found out, if you don't have the right licences and tax stuff... the Police will shut you down!! I'm sure if it was a one time only thing... but "Little Ladies" having fun at the Bingo Hall" those days are over... This is like the Big Leagues... Not $1.00 buy in for ONE card... but most of these people can do 6 at a time... WOW!!!
Depends on state bingo and raffle statutes. We are opening a bingo hall in Albuquerque this year to raise funds for our nonprofit, we are fully exempt from licensing!
@@thestudioofhopecorporation3356 That is crazy!! I'm moving back to ABQ NM... to RE-Open my Acting Studio for acting students and also have Mystery Dinner Theatre too... I want to do BINGO... (only once in awhile) to raise money for our Acting Studio.

That wee Bingo song is really catchy 😂😂 that's gonna be living rent free in my head for a while 😂😂 also gonna have my gay card revoked for not realizing gay bingo was a thing 😂😂 it's so suited too drag queens it makes perfect sense. Excellent wee documentary 👌
Drag bingo is amazing and really good fun!!! Are you on about the song just after that segment? I've just been Googling to find it and can't find it anywhere!! If anyone knows about it, who sung it and what it's called then that would be great!! So catchy haha!!
I went to Bingo once at a hall and the ladies were so rude - no socialization just obsession with winning. The social dynamic they mention in the doc was totally missing.
When I was in Matsue, Japan there was a guy handing out cards on the street and BINGO on a big screen outside. Of course I had to stop and play. I don't know how this video popped up on my suggested but I'm glad it did.
I was 16yo when my parents told me my Aunt Duffy (whom I had never met) was coming to stay the weekend with us. My thoughts...."yeah, so?". On Friday night I told my mom that a friend and I wanted to go see a movie and she said I had to ask my dad. I never asked my dad about those things because he preferred (and so did I) that we not be in the house at the same time any more than possible. So I go ask my dad who says "Nope! Someone has to take Duffy to play bingo". Blink, blink! No way in hell does a 16yo boy want to go to bingo with his weird Aunt on a Friday night. In order to continue breathing.... I took Aunt Duffy to bingo....and I won $300! One and only time I've ever been.
46:12 is Edinburgh, Scotland and not the Northwest of England. It looks like the Bingo hall at Meadowbank in the city which is still a Bingo hall today now called Buzz Bingo.
I will make a guess...this was first filmed in 96...so that man speaking on retiring at 70...would now be 97 years old...wonder if he ever had time to enjoy his retirement...
They just use that as one of their many other BS justifications for playing. It's called deflection. They will tell you any other justification they can before ever telling you it's because they are addicted to the gambling aspect of it. Like any gambler, they have spent so much money that they desperately need a big win and so that justifies even further spending to them because they are already so deep in to it. Then, when they don't win, "Ahh, it's all about the social aspect, something to do, blah blah blah, in order to pacify themselves until the next round of losses.
“ So what do you think about the concept of cruise bingo?”…. Oh I think it’s great! When I gamble all my money away I can just jump ship and drown myself. How convenient 😊!
have done maintenance work in bingo halls, fascinating, massive sheds with people sitting in their favourite seats, do not, i repeat do not sit in a regulars seat, you will have eyes boring into your head. it's all full of rituals, game finishes and you see all these women running to their favourite fruit machine to play until the next game. i will say it is brilliant for pensioners, see their friends and can get a hot meal for pennies and a cheap drink, why heat your home when you can sit in a bingo hall

I'm a certified GILF hunter, so I'm constantly cruising the local bingo halls, looking for that special someone who can take her teeth out, give me an old fashioned, offer up her balloon knot/shame cave/prison wallet, or at least let me split her ham for a few minutes. When I empty my ball bag of baby batter down her gullet, I scream "B I N G O !".
