Purchased! I actually just started a Kickbox Cardio class as my gym recently, and a woman was like, "your form is perfect. What is your discipline?" And I'm like "BodyCombat in VR!" 😁 Dan and Rachel taught me well.
I'm retired, coming up on my 71st birthday and love working out. I just recently picked up the Quest 3 and it's great. Besides watching movies and playing games, I wanted to incorporate it in my workouts. It took me some research but I decided on Les Mills bodyCombat for a couple of reasons. 1st it's NOT subscription based and 2nd... I love PUNCHING. I've only just begun and 20-minute sessions kick my butt. For $8 for a add-on DLC is a no-brainer. I might not be quite ready to jump in but it's nice to know it's there when I'm ready. Thanks for the review, Princess!
Wow that is so cool! Thanks for sharing :) Since this DLC was released, there has been 2 more: the 100 and most recently, Bonus Club. The last one has some super fun unique features and also includes 2 beginner level workouts :) There's some really great endurance tracks on there 🙌
💯💯 It plays into the promise we got that the paid content would be for people who wanted "something extra." But with the beautiful new graphics and since it's been a few months since the last update, it would have been great with a few easier classes as well :)
YAY! Welcome to the VR family 😊 I will email out the giveaway information Friday and do the draw early next week. What are you playing/testing first with your new Quest 3?
Thanks for this review! I saw this in the app and wasn't sure what it included or if it's something I'd want to buy. Given I've still not done most of the included workouts yet, I think I'll hold off on this one til later.
7 years ago I bought an Oculus Rift and you could not really use it for exercising, because of the cables attached to the PC. Now I bought a Quest 3 and the freedom for exercising is so great. I wanted to try out a fitness game immediately and bought Bodycombat. I work out 4 times a week (gym, swimming and cycling) and the workout part was no problem for me, but punching at the right moment is difficult when there are many objects. It helps if you have experience with boxing. On the left is a "combo number" and it is never very high. I think you need to punch with the rhythm of the music, but I am also not used to that. I would like a starter game where they slowly turn up the amount of objects so you learn to punch at the right moment and at the right angle. But it is a great game, and the Quest 3 is great for exercises.
if you look at my channel, you'll see that I am very familiar with Bodycombat - and the combo number 😉 When recording for this video, there was a bug that was released with this new update which impacted the hit registry. It was fixed a week after release. So yes, the combo number in this video is down, because of the hits didn't register. The beginner classes in Bodycombat is as slow as it gets in any VR boxing game, but it's excellent for proper form and engagement. If you're not liking the music part, you could always check out games like Thrill of the Fight, which is free-form boxing.
@@VikingPrincessVR Thank you for that great reply. I tried it again, and now I only focussed on hitting the targets at the right moment and not with a lot of force. If you use more force, the workout gets better, but the change of not hitting the target gets higher, because you use more backswing. The game is quite clever, because even with higher combo numbers on the left, your place on the board to the right can be low (you did not use much force). It's the combination of right hitting and force. When I watched you playing Bodycombat I thought that you strike with your arms faster forward and back, so that can also be a factor. It also helps to stand in the back of the circle and not in the front. And always hit the target in front of you, never at the side of the body. But you can always skip the score all together and just hit as hard as you can and just have fun! I keep trying and keep fit.
@ypmaklaes7218 I've covered this in previous videos, but the streak score doesn't mean anything - it doesn't change your score, it's just a form of motivation (I have this from a conversation with the lead developer on the game). You can get 1000 points max per hit, and it's power-focused, not necessarily aim/hitting center of the target. Being able to rotate through through your body, using torso and hip while hitting max power is something that needs to be trained on, just as lifting weights or improving Cardio. This specific movement require a lot for muscular power - which is different from strength. Moving fast with your hole body to hit the targets on time is power-based, and if you haven't trained specifically for this before, it's something that come. And yes, a puch goes both ways, not just to impact. You also have to return to guard position quickly. Also keep in mind that when I record, I don't go 100% in the workout, as I try to keep my head still, look at a spot that optimizes video recording, etc. If I were to go all in, the video would be almost unwatchable 🤣 Have fun!!
@@VikingPrincessVR Aha, so as a warm-up you practice the different strike moves a bit slower without the VR-glasses and then start the app and just start doing this with the right speed and the same force. I have also seen your video "STOP WASTING YOUR TIME when working out in VR! Watch this instead!" with good tips about the strikes and moves. Once a week I go to the gym for Body pump training class and the trainer gives you a lot of info about the right moves in combination with the weight lifting. This is very important when you want to increase the weights. For me, it is extra difficult, because I am 61 and most people in the training are younger than 30 and as flexible as you are 😉(but if I tell them my age they do not believe it, haha).
@ypmaklaes7218 I use either a beginner class or the built-in warm up classes before going all out :) But I am fortunate enough to have a body that can handle it! And BodyPump is such a great class! It was my second favorite back in my group-x days :) And 60 is nothing - you're still young! My 65 year old dad just set a new personal record in bench press ;) It might just take a bit more focus on nutrition, needing longer warmups and cool downs etc :) But you got this! 💪🏆
Good review as alwayd! I will gladly support non-sub based apps. Since, I take breaks from cardio or need to rest from strenght training. Already, bought the DLC after this video. Would probably need to pause alot since I struggle with 20 minute workout!
Thank you so much! There are a few 10 min workouts there, too :) And there's nothing wrong with taking breaks! My newsletter this week will include information about how you can improve your cardiovascular fitness and work up to those longer classes :)
I completely understand that. I recommend going to some of the earliest released beginner classes (the ones that are labelled as "#1" or "#2" after their name). These have fewer moves, so they are easier to get into. Then see how that feels and go from there :)
Does she already have the base game? The DLC is available on the same store, but only for Meta Quest. It's not available for Pico or PlayStation - Yet :)
@rodgerbroadway5555 Strange. I just looked in the Quest App and it's on the Bodycombat page, just before the reviewes, listed as an "add on:" www.oculus.com/experiences/app/4015163475201433/?
Unfortunately they only have solo matches now. But you can go to your settings and turn on "friend" mode which will make the replays/other people in your class prioritize people on your friend list or that you follow on Quest - if they've completed the class.
@@Lee-ic6mu For sure! Unfotunately, the logistics of setting that up is costly and requires a large player base. With a one-time fee game like this, I understand why they've had to leave this feature out - at least for now! Here's hoping we get lots of new VR fitness enthusiasts this year!!
off course! Any activity/fitness burn calories - and this app is one of the most effective ones. But you still need to watch your diet and heart rate zone if weightloss is your main goal.
not on the shorter ones, no. The 20 minute ones has the first track as a bit of a warmup/ease into it. But definitely something to keep in mind, as these classes are 🔥🔥🥵🥵🤣
you mean the fogging? Which headset do you use? First thing to check is to add the extensor that's meant for people using glasses. It gives more room between your forehead and lenses and reduce fogging a ton!
@VikingPrincessVR quest3 I see that's helpful thank you I have tried the anti fog wipes this has helped a bit. I need to get fitter so I don't sweat as much lol.😁

Thanks! I prefer the idea of DLC to buy at my own pace, rather than another subscription based app. This does look good.
I think a lot of people do :) So hopefully this means we will see more frequent updates/DLC releases!

Worth every penny, the DLC contains some very challenging classes, not much in there for beginners mind
