ive cracked the side character code. everyone loves side characters bc the audience doesn't need to relate to them, so they become more specific and interesting. but main characters have to be universally relatable so they become super bland and therefore no one likes them

You might also want to read the Red Scrolls of Magic after the first trilogy. It is in the time frame of before/at the beginning of, the fourth Mortal Instruments book. While it is not relevant to the plot, it is Alec and Magnus centric

Tldr: we're human and fucked up stuff like this just shows great like character growth because it fights with like morals and everything which is like what book and stories is all about.
