    Aaliyah's voice was enough for me! One of the things I admired about her immensely, she never over sang. She gave us exactly what each song required, and then gave us the visuals. She was an artist's artist. She honed her talent, which is very rare even to this day. Her evolution and vocal growth is second to none

    I personally feel like her strongest vocals were shown during the OIAM era. I'm struggling to think of a song on the RED album that matched Never Givin' Up or TOIGMT vocally. I will say that I think her voice became more agile on the RED album as her adlibs on We Need A Resolution are phenomenal and she gave us amazing layering and harmonies on Rock The Boat. A lot of people also forget she didn't use any form of auto tune on ANY of her albums or live performances. Not every artist can say that nowadays!

      I CARE FOR U & I REFUSE was an amazing vocal performance from the red album. You made a great point, but can’t dismiss those songs. 🔥

    • @RaheemD
      @RaheemD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@FrankeeTJ I Care 4 U is definitely one of the best vocally and it doesn't surprise me it was a song originally for OIAM. I feel like Missy's song-writing gave Aaliyah more scope to really go there vocally whilst static's song-writing was very fast and didn't leave much room for vocal acrobatics. And as much as I love I Refuse, I feel like she could've given MORE in that song! For example, the last chorus where she was still singing in her light tone and the production somewhat takes over her voice. I think she should've given more power from her chest as we all know she has it. She was probably saving it for her live performances :\

      She really excelled in her ballads. She definitely proved that she had “it,” but some of the heavily-produced songs that drowned out her voice didn’t do her any favors (ex. Are You That Somebody & More Than a Woman). Additionally, her voice tended to wane in performances when she sang & danced simultaneously.

    I hate when people say if your not a powerhouse vocalist you can't sing. Belting high notes can hurt the throat. Her voice fit her & was angelic and put you in your feelings

    • @cdsouthsidec1
      @cdsouthsidec1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Kareem Melendez I can attest to that cause I can hit high notes, but it strains the vocal chords and messes with the singing voice a lot, the alleged professionals, perfectionists of music people including Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Opera, Country,, Rock,etc, singers whom sing in those high notes won't tell the real deal, it's an even tougher technique and is dangerous on the vocal chords after many years. No one will remember this but years ago Julie Andrews had vocal surgery for her voice and now she can't sing like she used to, and another example is Shani Twain losing her voice after her best friend and husband cheated with each other. (She couldn't sing for years cause of the betrayal, she and the husband of the best friend got married and the previous back stabbing husband and friend got married after both sides got divorced from the previous partner.) I know these Singers have nothing to do with Aaliyah, I was just pointing out some examples. Aaliyah outshines any singer, to this day, even the alleged ones who hit high notes like Karen Clark Sheard, Mariah Carey, Patti Labelle, etc.

    My opinion: She had a strong voice! I could hear the strength. And people don’t realize that falsetto is hard to sing in (you said it as soon as I was typing lol) They think that everyone is supposed to be hollering to be able to sing! Aaliyah sung like a professional, the way she sung was the way that pro choir directors wanted us to sing. That’s why she sounded so heavenly in songs like Journey to the Past & The One I gave my heart to. The problem is most people sing from the throat instead of the stomach, when you’re not supposed to (it damages your vocal cords) she sang from the tummy the majority. That takes a lot of skill and control! But overall her voice is just so gorgeous to me; she sounds like how I imagine a fairy singing. It’s so soothing and ethereal. But yeah it makes me mad when people act like she can’t sing! And her Adlibs were top tier!

    Aaliyah lost her life at 22! She hadn't even fully grown into her adult voice yet, LET THAT SINK IN! She didn't get a chance to continue to grow and develop her voice. Tank said she always talked about how her vocals were important. That lets me know she would've continued to develop her craft throughout the years. Although her nerves would sometimes get the best of her live, she knew how to sing and use her voice properly. Make no mistake about it! That's very evident in her live acapella showings.

    Aaliyah sang softly but she did not have a soft voice the Oscar performance and The One I gave my heart to performances showed that. Her first album you could hear she was a bit nasally when going for the belts. She pretty much worked that out by One in A Million. As you stated on One in a million she explored more with her range and her transitions between registers were seamless. On her last album she experimented a bit more with her voice using a darker and deeper tone on some tracks whilst maintaining that signature falsetto. People talk about Aaliyah's vocal ability but very few people in the industry could do the runs and transitions on I Care 4 U. It saddens me that she never got the chance to do any of the ballads from her self titled album live.

Aaliyah definitely has grew vocally through all 3 of her albums , you can most definitely hear it !!! she has a soft , angelic & airy voice ! she never tried hard to sing she always came on the beat real smoothly ... i love when she sings low & comes back high .. her oscars performance when i watched it when i was younger made me cry because her voice touched my heart sooo much 😩 Her voice gives me chills . she never had to overuse her voice of course it came so naturally for her ! ❤️

    When I first heard Aaliyah’s version of At your best, I couldn’t believe this was a 14/15 year old singing. It was so smooth, sultry and angelic, I don’t think anybody could’ve knocked this cover out the park the way she did. Also, Aaliyah was all about having a signature style and wanting to stand out amongst her peers. She knew she didn’t need to blow like Whitney or Mariah but with songs like I Care 4 U, Never no more, Never Giving up, and I refuse. She can definitely go there if she wanted too, that’s why it will always hurt that she never got to chance to perform any of these songs live. I mean even the vocal layering of songs like We need a resolution is *chefs kiss*

    Ppl need to realize when Aaliyah sang she sang with her vibes. She was chill and laidback and that showed through her voice, her performances and dancing, even when she’s talking it’s very similar to her singing voice. If she wanted to hit them notes she would and she could so when ppl compared her to Beyoncé saying that Beyoncé is a better singer, performer, dancer it made me mad because Beyoncé is a lot more over the top and you could see that through her performances and singing and dancing. I prefer Aaliyah and Brandy over anybody because when they sing it’s more calm and really chill

    Aaliyah definitely had great vocals, people just choose to focus on the not-so-impressive performances. She has great performances from All That, The Oscars, UNICEF Gala, the Rosie O’Donnell Show, and the White House. I think any of her more lackluster performances are due to her being tired, as she had such a busy schedule.

    Aaliyah's vocal range was everything . She could really go all over the place . She could go high she could go low she could adlib . She just had it . When you said soft but powerful that's what Aaliyah meant when she said "street but sweet . She defeniteley had it though . I feel like she defeniteley evolved from her first to third album . You gotta remember she started singing when she was 6 and she started voice lessons three years later when she was 9 . Go figure to only have a year of voice lessons and to sing the way she was singing on Star Search . I feel like after One In A Million she was still improving and getting better and better

    She had such a soft/smooth/sultry voice... there’s literally no one who sounds like her. She hits falsetto notes so easily and it doesn’t sound straining... I think she’s a B+ singer. I think she’s equal to Beyoncé voice not to compare... just apples and oranges.. Aaliyah is a soprano primarily and can hit low registers... Beyoncé is primarily an alto singer that sometimes hits soprano notes... they would b in different sections in the choir yet equal. Like how I think Mariah and Whitney are tied though Mariah hits lighter sounding notes though there powerful as well. You should of played the clip of Aaliyah singing great is thy faithfulness... u know if u heard that in church u would say that girl can sing.. my favorites for vocal ability is I care 4 u, let me know, how could the one I gave my heart to, choose your lover, and there r so much more but I think if she had continued to live she would of realized her performances sound best when she’s singing falsetto/light.. I think she tries to sound different sometimes for live to not just be a copy and paste from the album cuz I’ve seen her do it the exact same as the album and do that deep sound.. look at one in million with Regis she does it the same as the album and the one I gave my heart 2 always is the same live and I think there’s a live performance of if your girl only knew where she’s wearing military color outfit where she does it the exact same... on top music... the clip is 2.09 long. it’s like she didn’t know which one ppl prefer live.

    Aaliyah from the beginning was known for her voice over amazing beats. R. Kelly taught her alot musically and Tim, Missy and Static took it to another level yet the foundation was her voice. She truly had amazing technic especially when it came to delivering a song in her own unique way. Her technique like Sade, Anita, Janet, Whitney, Aretha isn't easy. Plus people got to remember the school she came from and the years of practice and passion that she had in her voice. The girl was bad.

    Man look Street Thing is prime example that Aaliyah could hold her own. I'm not going to sit here and say she was a power house bc she wasn't and that is cool that wasn't her thing 🤷 she held her own..she knew what notes worked for her and what didn't and I'm sooo happy she never over stepped her notes. As far as live and the few concerts I've seen I think Aaliyah was nervous even though she never showed it but we have to remember she was a teenager then. I think had we seen Aaliyah THE WOMAN performed live she would have shocked tf out of us..can you imagine the full live choreography to Rock The Boat? Wheeww that would have been sexy, that video was cool but I would have loved to see her perform that live bc I can imagine the steps she was about to bring..we didn't see the full choreography in the video so imagine what she would have done live...and w We Need A Resolution

    @TonyTurner THANKS!!! You did it again! As I've mentioned before you hit this right on the nail!! Aaliyah was an angelic, light and smooth singer that caught "the listener" attention with a different tone than most!! A lot of ppl (especially those not musically inclined) often classify the ability to sing by having this overly powerful or soulful voice. There are different styles of singing and different tones. Just because one tone may be more soulful or powerful doesn't mean a singer who sing soft and light CANT SING!! She was in a lane of her own and it worked in her favor!!
    Her falsetto shows how talented she was and allowed her to show technique. Her head voice was definitely nice and smooth. It always takes me places. She hits high notes so gracefully!!.....And I agree she sung in the lower register live because it allowed her to perform, engage with her audience and still sing with full air support. There isn't really any singer out there that SINGS in a high register and DANCES at the same time!!. Aaliyah sounds different live than her studio performances but that's not a bad thing.
    This was a good contrast and I couldn't agree more!! Aaliyah voice transitioned and evolved over time. #TeamAaliyah #BabyGirl #theHighest #theMostExaltedOne #theBest :-)

    Right Aaliyah voice was very Rich very Deep in fact but it was very soulful what was soft was her "Falsetto range" which is why people consider her a soft vocalist but I wouldn't consider her overall voice soft in my opinion , I just think Aaliyah knew how to use her voice and she knew that whole "Falsetto/Soft singing" worked for her and that style of singing worked for her in that 90s/Early 2000 era a lot of Female Singers in the 90s wasn't really singing like that they all sung in full voice , I think if Aaliyah was alive now in 2021 I don't think she would be singing in that "Falsetto/soft style" also Aaliyah was vocally trained by 9 years old so she knew how to hold back and she knew how to release full strength sis knew what she was doing , she was just singing on brand and she even called that" Falsetto/Soft Singing "her Signature Style on a TRL interview I believe

    Aaliyah is a Lilting whisper singer whose voice changes pitch High and Low at the same time ,And is near impossible to do well while Dancing , so when performing live She would sing in a Low monotone sometimes She would stop at the end of the stage and hit some high notes and then go back to singing in a Low monotone while Dancing
    That's why some of Her live performances are hated on ,
