    Definitely with you on $PFE and $MMM. I have never been a fan long term of tobacco companies for obvious reasons, but possibly mine and everyone else's aversion to owning creates a great investment opportunity. I am an not a big fan of any Canadian banks. I am not Canadian but you don't need to be one to understand how ridiculously priced real estate is and how housing takes up a significant percentage of Canadian's income relative to the average American. I have been picking up $BAC and $PNC recently.

    Hey Ian, long time since I've commented on one of your videos. Still supporting through patreon. Its been a crazy investment journey. 2022 was by far the worst investing year I've ever had, but i survived and have had a great start to 2023. I mostly trade growth and small caps now. I occasionally add to divedend stocks, but since im busy trading other stocks, I just wait for when the great div stocks you mention hit lows. I wanted to let you know that my understanding is that treasury notes are exempt from state taxes whereas cds are not. When you're trying to squeeze as much yield as you can from treasuries and cds, the state taxes can make a real difference. Also treasuries have as short as 6 month maturity. At some point when the fed halts interest rate hikes, it will make it more effective to take a longer maturity in order to lock in a higher rate when the fed starts lowering rates. Current projections are saying likely headed to 5.5 to 6%.

    I thought right away about the risk with the housing market when you said Home Depot. Don’t know how concerned I’d be though… Like HD, don’t own. I really want a utility. This year my overall trend is to start positions in many stocks that I want to own, a utility is one. You Ian, have encouraged me to have a yearly trend relevant to me! I was unaware of that update you shared with 3M!!! I’m planning on opening up CDs again, gonna move 25-40% of my cash, outside of my investment account, into 18 month CDs, 4.75%. Thumbs up smashed buddy.

    Hey Ian, jnj is suppose to split up and brings questions to me regarding dividend payments, the payout ratio is amazing but after the split how will this companies do, what does that means for us investors , i love UL aswell great video, greeting from Holland

    • @ppcian
      @ppcian  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your kind words, and thanks for saying "hi" from Holland! I have no idea what will happen to JNJ dividends, but my assumption is that JNJ Pharma + Kenvue dividends should at least be equal to or greater than legacy JNJ. I'm hoping it goes similar to the UTX => RTX, OTIS, CARR situation. I have to believe as a shareholder-focused company, they will continue to be so after the spin-off. However, only time will tell. Wishing you all the greatest. (Disc: I'm long JNJ, RTX, OTIS, and CARR)

      You need to hire a financial advisor to help you diversify your portfolio by including Mutual Funds, Etf's, the 11 GICS groups, inflation-indexed bonds, and stocks of companies with reliable cash flows rather than growth stocks, where prices were based on future prospective earnings.

    I use the YOC at 5 years in the future, estimating it based on the historical div growth rate and using that 5-year YOC number to make decisions on.

    What about Dover corp? Every time I stick my head in the freezer or refrigerated section of any store they always use Dover products. This company has always outperformed JNJ since the beginning of time. Same with AOS, every building including JNJ needs a new hot water heater sometime same with every hospital and every home.

    interesting video I enjoyed your take on investing in this video a 5 percent CD rate is attractive but that is all you are going to get out of it there is no growth of income plus it is taxed in a worse way I invest in stocks that grow the dividend over time even at a lower rate because it protects my purchasing power not to catch up on higher yielding assets I may or may not equal a 5 percent CD rate I don't care as long as it protects the purchasing power of the dollars it does earn where the 5 percent CD will buy less and less over time many of the stocks you mention do the job excellent video as always

      You are ignoring the risk that a company might go bankrupt, or slash the dividends, or have its valuation drop, etc. So it might not protect your purchasing power.

      @moresugartradercc2744 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@n1chr0me6 agreed that could happen I own a lot of stocks if a stock ran into problems I could sell and put that money to work in another stock that was doing what it is suppose to do the 5 percent CD could also have problems the bank that issued the CD could close it's doors deposit insurance would cover the principal up to a certain amount but not the interest so there are risks with everything

    Yeah CD rates are competitive but the way they’re taxed as ordinary income is just plain stupid.

    Altria could-should expand beyond sin businesses
    Where is Abbv?

      @I_like_turtles_67 ปีที่แล้ว

      Altria is slowly setting themselves for the future. When Marijuana becomes fully legalized Altria is in a position to make billions. Allowing them to safely continue their sin stock/vice domination.
