That was a sad time for this gorilla family. Gentaro and Kintaro were very distraught about Momo. I think the longer it was, the worse they got too. Both ended up losing weight, too. It was sad but glad they all got well.
They still seem down but very sweet to see Gentaro trying to Communicate with Momo with the hooting which he learned through his Dad who hoots himself 🦍♥️
Gentaro definatly has muscled up and grown while pops has been ill.He is finally getting his crest, I was watching for it. He is just thicker all over, his chest and his face is potruding out more. HE WILL always have baby face. I know he will be a great husband and father.😇🦍😘
He's an amazing son he stood by his dad the whole time he was sick outside and he has a face that makes you want to cry he's always looks so sad I'm going to hate the day when he has to leave them I wish he didn't have to but I guess males don't get along with other males
Probably be a couple years before he starts postering with MoMo. Gentaro has a lot too grow. Unless the Zoos have a female they want to introduce him too in the near future
I think it's more a matter of finding a place for him that has females. He has learned a lot from his Dad in terms of being a Silverback. As far as males not getting along, that is true, but fathers and sons do sometimes habitate together, like the Shabani group. Gentaro is in need of expressing himself, and I think he had a building aggression towards Genki, since she is the only female. There was a young elephant in Australia who crushed his keeper against a wall almost killing her. This was an elephant the keeper had raised since birth. Afterwards, the vets took blood samples and found unusually high testosterone levels in the young elephant. The keeper really felt the elephant did not crush her to hurt her, but that his frustrations and testosterone levels caused him to hold and crush her. Soon after, the younng elephant had to be separated from his mother, because he was trying to aggressively mount her in frustration. I think Gentaro is at a point where he has really begun to fill out with muscles and girth, he does have aggressive spurts towards Genki and Kintaro. I imagine it can get pretty intense in the gorilla house. Momotaro being sick also gave Gentaro a taste of being the Silverback. It's possible Gentaro will not back down after Momo recovery, the zoo would have to separate them. I hope that does not happen.

@@phylishess4011 the family dynamic is very changeable right now. Not sure if it was this vid or not, but it was the first time I saw Momo and Gentaro outside in front of the keeper station. Gentaro did not stand down when Momo came over to collect branches. Gentaro actually squared up to Momo and stared at him directly while eating the greens. Momo is so young himself, he is actually doing a great job, and I hope he springs back in full force, the poor guy. I wonder if the zoo has potential places for Gentaro to live? He’s such a sensitive gorilla, so smart; I hope that when he does move on to his new home that it is full of new gorillas in an expansive green habitat. Love to the Momos. My favorite primate family. ❤️
@@amykreilly when the time comes to move him, it might have to be somewhere overseas, because Japan has a lot of males and Silverbacks at the moment. Way too many for the amount of females they have.
You can tell by their energy as a group that they are all feeling very out of sorts without their father and king. Tugs at my heart all the way to Canada to see them look so sad and especially knowing Momo was so ill he had to be segregated. I’ve really come to love and cherish this silly family so far away. I do wish they had a bigger home though so they didn’t get so bored and lonely for better enrichments.

I really really hope he gets Annie as a wife, I won't be so sad then...But Kintaro will be devastated, if he got that sick when Dad got sick, I can't imagine what will happen when brother is taken away. Let's make sure Kintaro grows up and heals mentally and physically before they make sudden life changing decisions for him

As much as I love this gorilla family, it's too much to take seeing them in the WORST enclosure EVER for gorillas. The Zoo staff are amazing and their efforts should be commended, but the City of Kyoto should be ashamed. #gorilla #kyotozoo #kyotocity
Here, here. They moan they have no money yet Japan is a very rich country and their main source of income is electronics which has not been affected by covid. They should spend some of their taxes on this zoo. Apparently they can't expand due to a nearby shrine......bollox!
Because the land & housing is expensive in Japan, so greedy. They forced these animals to live in small cramped space just like how they live. The same thing to fruits and veggies, bcs it's so expensive in Japan, they also give the gorillas grass as their main diet.
I've noted in prior comments on the physical changes in Gentaro. At 1st I thought I was imagining things, but the more I watch and review I see it is REAL. His stance and pose are more adult. He looks more like Momotaro. His chest has expanded and his muzzle is more pronounced. He also seems to be challenging Genki more. I wonder if there was a hormonal shift with dad out of the way for a week. Gentaro is at an age anyway when in the wild he would be transitioning to another troop, find his own females, or find a bachelor group. Wonder what's going to happen when Momo returns. Hope it's not a Winston/Frank in San Diego redux. Suggest others go to "gorillas" on Wikipedia to read about gorilla social behavior for wild and captive gorillas.

Great comment...I also wish more people would educate themselves about gorillas and the history of the troops they comment on. I had it all all wrong at the beginning before I invested time in learning about them. I can't defend every uncouth, negative, or incorrect comment, but I try and sometimes I get burned out repeating myself. Anyway I love to come across comments like yours👍🦍🙂

If you haven't already check out the lineage charts-- keeps records of all the families, mating records to keep out inbreeding, a paper by Yoshida about the change in the Japanese attitude toward their gorillas to improve in their care, all the little backstroke, etc. I am now an official gorilla little old lady! (guess it beats having bunch of cats running around) 😁😁😁

「純粋」って言葉がぴったりなゲンタロウ。不思議ですよね。モモの具合が悪くなって、子供たちが次々と元気が無くなって。ゲンキも気になってるかもしれないけど、自分が元気でいないとって健気にモリモリ食べていたのかも。早く、モモが完全回復するといいですね。私たちから見れば些細なことが、こんなに影響するなんて。野生はもっと大変なんでしょうね。
ゲンタローの感性には改めて感心しました！
