My favorite part about the Cabal is how they were always the greatest immediate threat to the City. The Fallen were never strong enough to take it, the Vex don't care and the Hive are kept away by the Traveler's Light. But the Cabal? All they needed was an excuse.
Honestly, up until very recently this holds up pretty well. Hell, Ghaul almost *DID* take the city. Again, it's only in the very recent past and *now* that the Cabal lack the strength to assault the City anymore and the Hive have taken up the mantle of "biggest threat at this very moment."
Actually, the fallen did pose a very large threat to the city, and came close to taking it during the battle of twilight gap. The only reason they didn't was because of Shaxx's team deciding to push when all seemed lost. Also, Ghaul did take the city, temporarily, but only because The Nine took out our satellites, so the attack was completely by surprise.
I'd agree that they were the greatest threat, after the hive were destroyed in the dark below, crota was not that long away from being resurrected and stomping on the city, but luckily 2 knights a millennia ago got into a stalemate and crota lost enough tithe from that to be weak enough to beat the first time

"800 pounds, highly militarized. They blow up planets and moons just for getting in their way. Just to let you know what we're dealing with." - Ghost, Exclusion Zone mission
I love the Cabal cause they don't want any part of this Darkness nonsense, and, if the opening mission of Taken King is any indication, they're not COMPLETELY opposed to the idea of allying with Guardians when necessary. I'm hoping we'll be getting a Cabal focused expansion sooner rather than later.
+smnoy23 I'd love to know what the story is with the Psions. I mean, they're clearly not the same species as regular Cabal. Were they conquered and enslaved or did they willingly join with the empire? I'd also love to know why Oryx went straight for the Cabal when he arrived in the system. With so many of his own minions ripe for the taking (pardon the pun), it's interesting that he'd go straight for such a powerful force.
Probably because he figured that the Hive would worship him, the Fallen were too divided and weak to pose a significant threat (especially if Skolas is imprisoned/dead by that point), and the Vex are doing whatever the hell it is they do on Venus and Mercury. The Cabal is probably the only alien race that Oryx viewed as a threat, so neutralizing them probably took priority.
Ya wanna know why the cabal are really badasses? Remember D1’s good ol Valus Ta’aurc strike? Remember how in that nightfall, if you weren’t hiding in the cheese spot, you weren’t gonna make it? Yea. A force so powerful, you CANNOT face it head-on. That’s the cabal.
Man. I miss hearing this music during big fights against Cabal bosses. It still gets stuck in my head sometimes, even though this is he first time I've listened to it since D2 came out.
That moment you get punched so hard you are erased from existence and teleport to the opposite side of the map (yes, that did happen in PoE... twice in a row, still have no idea what went wrong).
Don't let this distract you from the fact that they were originally depicted as 10+ foot tall wielding bayonet rifles along with operating vehicles the size of buildings. Oh wait this theme only makes it nightmares.
with how the cabal are a militarized enemy im not surprised at what ghaul did in the start of destiny 2. after oryx was eliminated as a threat ghaul took his chance. ghaul makes a good leader because he didnt just use his strenth but his wisdom. he: 1: waited until the most powerful being, oryx, was eliminated 2: waited till the guardians let their guard down 3: attacked an unsuspecting city of guardians 4: took/caged the guardians source of power leaving the guardians vurnerable 5: asserted dominance thats some military stategist logic level of thinking there.
Last guardian standing Running to cover Phalanx gets in way Phalanx swings arm like 20 ton truck Goes flying Dies *INTENSE BREATHING IN* "BBBOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!"
This music.. I picture a huge force of cabal marching headlong into a massive battle with the vex. Psion loosing blasts of arc light , and collosi with their heavy slug throwers spinning rapidly spitting a maelstrom of fiery hell upon the vex forces. Another cabal harvester appears and valus ta aurc drops down as a wave of vex preaetorians and hydra arrive on sight to back up the struggling vex troops
One of the scariest things about Cabal is their actual ammo. It’s honestly horrifying. Every one of their guns shoots armour piercing micro-missiles, which detonate with shrapnel inside the target. Meaning that if you get shot by one, whether you’re a Guardian or not, it’s going into your flesh, and exploding inside of you, throwing sharp metal deep into every part of the wound. Considering the initial wound was made by an armour piercing micro-missile, the shrapnel is easily getting deep enough to hit vital organs. One shot would kill you, and even if it barely hit you on somewhere safe like an arm, you’d almost certainly go into shock from the pain. Not to mention how septic a wound that full of shrapnel would become if you somehow escaped. The fact that we can even stand after taking a shot is a testament to Guardians’ armour and innate strength.
That one guy at bungie was probably like: Ok hear me out, what if we take rhinos, put them in space and add a some roman empire to the mix and thats how the cabal were made
I still remember the first time I fought the Cabal. I was four levels behind every single enemy, and an army of them was headed right for me... It was one of the most intense gaming experiences I've ever had.
Geez, considering that the Cabal is heavily based off the Roman military culture in many aspects down to unit names, that I would imagine If Rome existed within a modernized/futuristic setting, this would be their military theme.
nearly a decade later, and several expansions - even into Lightfall Destiny hasn't done a motif that symbolizes the sheer crushing dominant force of the Cabal better than this one. We are Cabal. We eat the mountains. We drink the seas.
Ever since I got Heir Apparent in the Guardian Games, this plays in my head whenever I rev it up and mow down everything in my path. The perfect weapon for an unstoppable Titan like me.
[Commander Zavala:] Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
The Cabal are Bungie’s “what if”. In Halo, the elites were big and the grunts were small. Here in Destiny the canal are like big grunts and the psions are small elites.
When the last Cabal in the darkness zone is a Phalanx that instakills you with their shield bash thus making you have to start the darkness zone from the beginning again
Saladin joining Empress Caital kinda made me jealous. I like Cabal now. Back in D1 especially year 1 I liked them because they were a challenge. They were a worthy adversary. In D2 they were monsters to be hunted to the last. But now they earned my respect.
Probably because they exile their legions until they win like Rome, and only conquer slowly like Rome, but have little to no regard for losses like Russia
The year is 2023, Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion is out and primary antagonist is Cabal. To THIS DAY, from just how good this theme is, that low brass hook is STILL used as the underlying call of the Cabal battle music. What a fantastic piece of music.

Fallen: junkers that are try hards Hive: huge assholes Vex: teleporty fuckers that don't give a damn Cabal: sand turtles that will blow up entire planets just for being in their way. We fucked with the wrong cabal
For some reason I think Cabal might be herbivore. (The only exception is that their teeth is kinda sharp, but that is probably just the way they were textured.) Also they look like moles xD
+Zsolt The Gamer They seem to be based on burrowing animals like moles and desert tortoises, which might explain why most of their fortifications on Mars are dug into the ground, and why their ship on the dreadnaught seems to be laid out like a mole's den.
Oh my lord, the good times when my teammates left because it was too hard and I was here, soloing this shit, but I hated the fact that whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. "They destroy planets and moons just for getting in their way. Just letting you know, what you're dealing with."
I hope they make a heroic version of this for when we charge into battle against Xivu Arath alongside Caiatl and the Cabal
While we sorta got this with lightfalls "Hold The Line" this would still be amazing in The Final Shape
We gonna fight xivu arath?
I love strikes on Mars. Cabal are such badasses
Dust Palace is the best strike on Mars.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that they were originally depicted as 10+ foot tall wielding bayonet rifles along with operating vehicles the size of buildings. Oh wait this theme only makes it nightmares.
where can i see this
yeah where can u find this
Remember that one Valus Ta’uarc Nightfall that everyone died at?
Yep
Yes that was my favorite strike lmao
Yeah I memba, that was my first nightfall!
Whether we wanted it or not...

with how the cabal are a militarized enemy im not surprised at what ghaul did in the start of destiny 2. after oryx was eliminated as a threat ghaul took his chance. ghaul makes a good leader because he didnt just use his strenth but his wisdom.
he:
1: waited until the most powerful being, oryx, was eliminated
2: waited till the guardians let their guard down
3: attacked an unsuspecting city of guardians
4: took/caged the guardians source of power leaving the guardians vurnerable
5: asserted dominance
thats some military stategist logic level of thinking there.
you mean common sense ?
I love the way this feels as heavy as a cabal foot fall and yet oozes imperial triumph
*This* is Destiny's Imperial March.

**GUARDIAN DOWN INTENSIFIES**
This music.. I picture a huge force of cabal marching headlong into a massive battle with the vex. Psion loosing blasts of arc light , and collosi with their heavy slug throwers spinning rapidly spitting a maelstrom of fiery hell upon the vex forces. Another cabal harvester appears and valus ta aurc drops down as a wave of vex preaetorians and hydra arrive on sight to back up the struggling vex troops
Giratina575 And then suddenly 6 Guardians come in and demolish everything.
Giratina575 we should get someone to draw that in the artstyle of some of the other drawings

Royal Space Russian Roman Sand Turtles.
Justin Glass you forgot to put Space in there lol
They're not teenagers, they're not mutants, they're not ninjas. But they're royal, russian, roman and sand.
If you look up the track Awakening from Halo 4, the 4:13 onwards is the same melody as Cabal Stomp
There’s always that one imperial phalanx that survives my nova bomb because of their shield, and whenever I see them this plays in my head
Bruh look up warhammer 40k thats bolter ammo
Bruh they stole that from warhammer 40k.
You d1 studs remember this theme when we open up the doors for the first time on mars? Good times huh?
Year 1 of d1 was rough but experiencing the world for the first time was great.
I miss d1 so much d2 just doesnt hit the same at all
That one guy at bungie was probably like:
Ok hear me out, what if we take rhinos, put them in space and add a some roman empire to the mix
and thats how the cabal were made
You mean Joseph Staten? The guy Bungie let go after scrapping the story he had been working on for years?
I still remember the first time I fought the Cabal.
I was four levels behind every single enemy, and an army of them was headed right for me...
It was one of the most intense gaming experiences I've ever had.
soy
If the cabal are space turtles but are inhabiting a desert world does that make them tortoises??? Hmmmmmm
Jack bob more like rhinos
Geez, considering that the Cabal is heavily based off the Roman military culture in many aspects down to unit names, that I would imagine If Rome existed within a modernized/futuristic setting, this would be their military theme.
Playing Mars' first mission was the Cabal's way of saying "Y'all picked the wrong planet fool!!!"
nearly a decade later, and several expansions - even into Lightfall Destiny hasn't done a motif that symbolizes the sheer crushing dominant force of the Cabal better than this one.
We are Cabal. We eat the mountains. We drink the seas.
Ever since I got Heir Apparent in the Guardian Games, this plays in my head whenever I rev it up and mow down everything in my path. The perfect weapon for an unstoppable Titan like me.
I remember the first time I encountered the cabal.
Severely under leved and fucking scared
A fireteam of Guardians disliked this.

Easily my favorite cabal strike
I love that fact that the cabal we’re just THERE in d1. But I still think their the best race, bungie alway excelled at military chain like designs.
Whenever i hear this i put on a cringy looking angry face and stomp around the room.
Dark Mind
I can Imagine how autistic that looks
Same lmao
[Commander Zavala:] Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
I love the cabal motif. You KNOW when they are involved in anything in Destiny.
Easily some of the greatest musical characterization I have ever seen.
The Cabal are Bungie’s “what if”. In Halo, the elites were big and the grunts were small. Here in Destiny the canal are like big grunts and the psions are small elites.
I think hunters would fit the cabals more
When the last Cabal in the darkness zone is a Phalanx that instakills you with their shield bash thus making you have to start the darkness zone from the beginning again
As a wise emperor calus once said "Grow Fat From Strength"
The music that plays when I take a massive shit.
Saladin joining Empress Caital kinda made me jealous. I like Cabal now. Back in D1 especially year 1 I liked them because they were a challenge. They were a worthy adversary. In D2 they were monsters to be hunted to the last. But now they earned my respect.
But the D1 Phalanx’s were aggressive as hell
@@BigboyscreeneditzI prefer them. They are a joke in D2.
"Cabal again?! With that blasted rock-shaking concentration-shattering machinery!!"
I the Cabal have an Imperial system, but for some reason when I hear this, I think of BOTH the Romans AND the Russians. Don't know why...
probably because of the military skill and power
Which Russians? Russian Empire, Soviet Union, modern Russians, etc.?
nah I think only of romans
INTO THE MOTHERLAND THE GERMAN ARMY MARCH!
Also taking 300 Phalanxes just to be sure.
"I've pulled some information on our new friends. 800 pounds and highly militarized. They blow up planets and moons just for getting in their way- just so you know what we're dealing with."
Such powerful brutes deserve this epic music. Shame they are the bad guys.
Not so much EVIL as just highly expansionist and militaristic. The Hive and Oryx are evil.

-TearofGrace, on _The Lord of Ring: Gollum_
Cabal are honestly a huge threat
Literally & figuratively
The only race that manage to take the city
Fallen: junkers that are try hards
Hive: huge assholes
Vex: teleporty fuckers that don't give a damn
Cabal: sand turtles that will blow up entire planets just for being in their way.
We fucked with the wrong cabal
Teleporty XD
For some reason I think Cabal might be herbivore. (The only exception is that their teeth is kinda sharp, but that is probably just the way they were textured.) Also they look like moles xD
+Zsolt The Gamer They seem to be based on burrowing animals like moles and desert tortoises, which might explain why most of their fortifications on Mars are dug into the ground, and why their ship on the dreadnaught seems to be laid out like a mole's den.
Ghaul and Emperor Calus are slightly bigger than a mole. Just sayin
They’re carnivores (sorry for being late)
@@knowariddle9462 Calus isn't a cabal though. He's very likely an Ahamkara

I love this theme. Maybe ironically, to me it sounds the most... Human, of all of them.
Everybody gangsta till the Cabal crash a huge ship into the dreadnaught
Now this is the music every Guardian on Destiny has to run away in fear.
Marty o'Donnell is a musical genius.

Two words:
Bracus Zavala
This is the theme song for humans coming out of quarantine after getting really fat when all the animals thought we were extinct
I feel this them really nails the cabals purpose and just overall ethics of them you can’t get much better than this
0:46 Them blowing up planets and moons for being in their way is the reason i love the Cabal
I miss when the cabal was actually frightening. This just gives off a better atmosphere than the cabal in D2 ever could.
Ik the D1 Phalanx’s where aggressive as hell all of them were they would randomly charge at you just for honor
“Whether on solid rock or shifting sand dune, the inexorable sand eaters never slow their pace”
The Imperial March of gaming
It's been over 5 years, This is still holding up as 1 of my favorites. I hope they'd bring this back in D2 someday somehow.
