  • My first outing of 2023 into the fields of Cumbria to watch a lovely classic MF 1250 and Kveneland 4-furrow reversible ploughing blowing off the winter cobwebs under blue skies. The 1250 shares the farms 80-acre spring barley preparation ploughing duties with the farms modern MF 7614 that I also filmed on the day but this felt like travelling back in time to me to and how it used to be done over 40 years ago. Also my first cab ride in a MF 1250, all levers with no electonics! Filmed in Cumbria, April 2023.
    If you enjoy my videos of farm machinery at work in Cumbria (and Southern Scotland), please consider subscribing. Likes and taking the time to comment (preferably positive ones) are always welcomed and I will try to reply as soon as possible although if I’m at work or out filming there might be a delay. Cheers, David

      It certainly is Jack. I’ve known the owners and the 1250 for a number of years now but rarely get the chance to see it in the fields so jumped at this one. The fact it was such a beautiful day after all the grey and cold weather we’ve had recently was the icing on the cake. Thanks for watching and your comment Jack, much appreciated. Cheers David.

    Great film. I filmed that same tractor myself a few years ago at the Friends of Ferguson rally at West Mains Collin just outside Dumfries. It is an amazing machine and very rare, not many 1200's around let alone 1250's. Good to see these older machines still working as they were intended to do.

      Thanks Andrew. I’ve watched your film quite a few times in the past and it’s a great video of this lovely classic. Your right that there’s not many 1200’s around now and even less 1250’s so it’s always a pleasure to see one at work and as you say earning their keep as they originally were intended to do. Thanks for your great comment, much appreciated. Cheers, David.

      I'm open to correction but as I understand its probably best over here to plant a nitrogen fixing cover crop and plough it in, in the spring. Leaving soil exposed over the winter here would just leech all the nutrients out of the soil because its too wet and mild.

      Hi George. Ploughing still going on here up in Cumbria, everything seems to be a bit later for some reason (probably the cold so-called spring). Hopefully everyone will have a good crop though! Cheers David.

    Great to see her with her boots dirty. I’m eagerly waiting my 1200 to be finished at Massey Dave’s. He also has my 1250 which will get done next year I hope and I’ll be the proud owner of 2 of these beauties in showroom condition

      I would be proud too Mike. A pair of mint Massey artics, doesn’t get much better than that. Just like seeing this 1250 at work I’d love to see those two when they’re finished, definitely a sight to behold. Thanks for watching and the great comment. Cheers, David.

    What a peach of a machine - it's just gliding up the field as if that plough wasn't there, and making an extremely tidy job at the same time.
    Have seen a different video with a 1200 pulling a 5 furrow semi mounted plough, attached only to the lower links and really struggling. Such ploughs require an intermediate adaptor assembly that operates the top link draught control spring and also provides mechanical downward thrust through the top link also.

    • @davidwinthrop7077
      @davidwinthrop7077  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s an absolute beauty James and as you say hardly breaking sweat and ploughing a very neat job. I’ve probably seen the video of that 1200 and 5 furrow but need to refresh myself with it. That’s a big load for a 110hp tractor and as you say those ploughs require some additional support to operate successfully. Great comment, good to hear from you. Cheers, David

    • @hnorrstrom
      @hnorrstrom 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A semi mounted usually goes easier than a regular lifted plow.
      There were tests about that here in Sweden. Everyone had Överum semi mounted plows back in the days.
      I use a 4 furrow 14" semi mounted on my Volvo BM 600. It struggles a bit but the 67hp is enough.
      It has no connection to the upper mount.
      Sorry for my English I don't have much clue what all the parts are really called.

      Morning Emanuel and thank you for watching and commenting on the video. It is a shame that many were never imported overseas and as you say Argentina though having said that there are not many over in this country either especially with just 322 being built, the last one over 40 years ago. Thank you so much for watching, I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. Kind Regards, David.

      Hi Emanuel. Yes still a lot of ploughing takes place in the UK though ploughs have definitely gotten much bigger over the years (though maybe not so much here in the north of Cumbria) That sounds an interesting operation you have over there and I can imagine it works very well. I’ll look forward to seeing those photos! It’s a pleasure talking to you as well sir, all those miles away! Regards, David.

      Hi Christian. As Jack has explained the 1250 was ploughing in preparation for planting spring barley as in the uk both spring and winter varieties are grown, the winter seeds as you say are planted after the harvest in the autumn. Hope both mine and Jacks reply explain this. Many thanks for watching and your question. Cheers, David.
