Scott Sattler made a cover tackle that was recognized as one of the best GF tackles made in its time but that one by Freddy has to be up there with them.
Imagine running across in cover knowing you had to tackle big Mal.

I played Gold coast junior rep footy with Scott, i was fullback at the time...boy he was a great tackler then....always destined to play NRL for mine....

@@freedomofchoicelover3734 In about 2010 Scott did a post lunch address to our construction crew (and others) at Tugun. I sat and marvelled at hearing John Sattler speaking again, 40 years before! John was extraordinarily articulate in his prime.
After he had done I was introduced to him - the eyes, the smile, the warmth of the welcome - all John! I know father and son are close, each very proud of the other.

Classic game with some true legends of the game. That tackle was as copy book as you'd like to see any player make. Freddy a true warrior of the game... brings down Big Mal with a clean around the legs tackle. Smart enough to know of Mal... who is known for his fend.. to not go high. Great video of share and show the desire to not only chase Mal down, but to also stop the big man in his tracks.

That tuck into the tackle is perfect form in action, and Freddie made sure that his head was not only well away from any stiff arm but also behind the knees and in no danger of being crushed against the turf.
Just about every NFL player in the US would have tried to grapple with the arm or shoulder and likely fail, because all they have to do is knock the ball carrier off his feet so they know nothing about making a real around-the-legs tackle to bring a man down in full flight.

Just a great player definitely one of the very best. There are players that change games Andrew John's, Brad fittler are the two best I've ever seen. The next for me would be Gordon Tallis, Adrian Morley to a lesser degree but I just love his hits because as someone who played in the juniors I think as a psychological aspect it changed how your team would play of a guy like him just belted someone and I always loved seeing guys like him just give a hit and change the game but also the others in their respective ways. Ryan girdler, Matt gidley, Adam Macdougall, Anthony minichiello, billy slater, I think Darren locker was very talented but was like a workhorse who sometimes turned on the talent, he couldn't change games by himself like fittler, Johns, or even minichiello or slater because they just had an intensity where they just sent the game nuts.

A virtual forerunner to the 2003 Scott Sattler tackle on Todd Byrne. I'm not sure if Mal would have had the legs to go all the way, whereas Byrne surely would. He would have gone mighty close though. Great cover tackle. Ronny Coote made this his trademark
