    I feel like the main reason SV has so few regional variants is that for one, we have the paradox pokemon that are technically new forms for older pokemon, also it be better to save a lot of regional variants for another legends game as that's the only practical way to add new pokemon to an older region

    • @clothieredward5248

    Personally, I enjoyed the Teal Mask way more than either of the SWSH DLCs. It just had so much more substance to it than those DLCs did IMO. The story was way more engaging and interesting, even for just this first part, the new setting was better, exploration was better, there was actual trainer battles outside the main story, there were actual sidequests, and the story is actually going to continue into part two instead of having two separate unrelated plot lines. The performance issues do suck for sure but overall I enjoyed the DLC a lot. And I don’t hate the SWSH DLCs by any means either lol, I just thought the Teal Mask was way better.

      Decided to downloed the dlc for my birthday in october and it was verry nice. I found it pretty short compared to the main story but I wasn't exspecting an antire new game or something. also with the main game cleared and my ride pokemon at full power travalling was no problem climbing mountians and such so I wasn't restricted to where I could go much. It isn't exactly a new region but it's a new place to explore. Hadn't had that sence gold and silver. Looking forward to indago disc. Specially the new pokemon added.

    To play Giritina's advocate here, some would consider more Pokemon getting added to the game as a good thing as it gives them a chance to use their favorite Pokemon if it wasn't previously available before the DLC. As a decent fan of the Poliwag line them being included is a good thing to me.

  • @13CrystalHeart

    I really enjoyed it and the storyline. Especially since they're doing what I've wanted for years with one of the new rivals, Kieran, by having him start out as a friendly rival only to be consumed with resentment towards the player as the storyline progresses, and will probably be some sort of antagonist when it comes to P2. Like this is something I've asked for for years and I'm super excited to see where they'll take things!
    There were some performance issues, but all I really had was frames drops and graphics flickering, which didn't really take away from my enjoyment of things.
    Overall I'd probably give it 8.5 out of 10.

      Exactly my thoughts. The lag was definitely some bit more noticable than it was before DLC. But the gameplay, exploration and the story was engaging enough for the small price we'd to pay. Besides, all of us knew deep down that The Indigo Disk is gonna be the real meat in this bundle. And yeah, I'd rate it similar too, in a 0-10 scale.

      @GoinGreninja 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@thatman666 It's a bit more than just angst, as far as I could see, but angst is definitely there. Some amount of resentment from disliking his sister's attitude, wanting Ogerpon before and wanting to impress her later, his want to get strong so that his inferiority complex, his view of seeing himself as weak even after having talent needing some fixing or what have you. He's definitely selfish and a bit mopey, but that's what makes him interesting, in my opinion.

    • @13CrystalHeart
      @13CrystalHeart 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@thatman666 Imo, it wasn't really teen angst, but he likely already had some issues from his sister being a bully and not really having any friends (it's even possible that given his admiration of Ogrepon when the other villagers hated it, that he was ostracized somewhat), then there is the fact even those he's closest to are hiding things from him and lying to him, the insecurities caused by numerous losses, and then us basically stealing his dream out from underneath his nose. I mean, I think that would be a bit rough on anyone, especially a kid.

    I will say i love how game freak is actually giving us characters who are more then just one thing....mostly. Arven was the first big example of this as a developing character and Penny was a bit as well. Nemona was just your typical battle junkie rival. However Kieran and Carmine felt like actual characters with development and i can certainly appreciate that. Same with the legendaries in these 2 games and DLC actually having personalities and involvement throughout the stories, instead of just being a boss/prize at the tail end of the story.

  • @keiyakins
    @keiyakins 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You have to read between the lines a bit but terastellization in Kitakami *is* explained. The stranger who arrived with Ogrepon brought some crystals, most of which were set into the mask, one of which ended up in the pond on top of the mountain where it grew. Those crystals are clearly, visually, the same as the ones in Area Zero.
    So we can deduce that those crystals are a big part of it.

    also, lag was terrible, really really bad. screen was getting frozen for a couple seconds every 10 minutes or so. i was constantly thinking game was about to crash

    I wish we will get some actually threatening villains again. I personally believe pokemon peaked at Ghetsis. Its the first time you find a villain in the main line pokemon games completely motivated by evil to the point where he is willing to cross the line. (not to mention he is the one who almost killed the mc at once point in B&W2) and we have no idea about his past. Giovanni is basically a mafia leader, Archie and Maxie are rivals and so had their ancestors, Cyrus was an abused child, N was brainwashed, but Ghetsis we dont know his past and how he got this way so for all we know he could have been evil since along time before he found N. (After this was Lysander who was pretty screwed up in the brain, and then came Guzma who is really well written to me, but then comes team yell......do I have to say more?)

      Tbf, the villain of Scarlet and Violet was Professor Sada/Turo. In that they were ready to not only screw over the ecosystem by introducing an invasive species which would cause an ecological collapse, but they also made the Paradise Protection Protocol. In which if the player didn't have Koraidon/Miraidon, they along with Nemona, Arven, and Penny would've been slaughtered with no means of self-defense.
      All for the selfish and obsessive goal of wanting something akin to Jurassic Park.
      So I would have to disagree that there haven't been any "actual" threatening villains.

      We've had joke villains/harmless villains since Gen 6. That's almost 10 years. And yeah maybe we'll get a high-stakes villain battle at the end, but we spend most of the game dealing with jokes.
      Gen V handled it best: you had Grunts that were as whole, competent and slick. But you'd get the occasional gag Grunt, and those ones are way funnier than any of the "flow any joke at the wall and see what sticks" vibe of Team Flare. You got the best of both worlds, because the writing knew when to be silly and when to be serious.

      @@sourdough3533 Team Skull, Yell, and Star are not so much villains but moreso antagonists. The expectation that they should be villains because they have "Team" in their name is... Rather amusing.
      There hadn't been a villainous team since Team Flare, and it's honestly about time that they don't need to necessarily follow every formula and make absolutely all the "teams" villainous.
      Could have instances where the Professor of the region is villainous instead, assuming it makes sense (which it does, and about time).

      @@mcihay246 Skull are good antagonists (Largely Guzma and Plumeria, who conveyed the team's ideas while being able to be ridiculous AND serious depending on the scene.) But the team as a whole is largely ineffectual and not meant to be taken seriously. And they're fine. But the argument is that the bulk of antagonists we get, outside of the big villains, are jokes.
      "They don't need to follow a formula," yeah. But they've just created a different Team formula. 4 generations and 10 years STRAIGHT of non-villainous, largely-jokey teams. It's so repetitive. And it sucks because they had a good balance with the first five generations.

    The masks have tera shards in them, that's the "special gemstones" the mask maker of kitakami put into the masks, which is why you need to go and get shards of the teracrystals on the mountain to fix the mask. I was waiting for Scarlet to get significant patches before I would even consider DLC. Seeing how busted the DLC is, I'm not thinking that's happening any time soon. • @GoinGreninja

      Usually, DLCs offer more regional variants or Legendary Pokémon more because they're easier to create, at least according to Gamefreak. Have you not noticed the Isle of Armor with two new Pokémon and two forms? The Crown Tundra had way more Pokémon but also did forms and no other new Pokémon.

    • @Ryodraco
      @Ryodraco 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      In this instance they were doing a pokemon take on the Momotaro story, so making pokemon versions of even just the ogre and the Momotaro companions meant making four new legendary pokemon (though they are not meant to be high tier box legendaries, functionally just unusual normal pokemon that are a bit stronger than average). That alone ate up a lot of slots for the few new pokemon they introduce via DLC.
      Even then, the total new pokemon are 4 "normal" and 4 legendaries (Bloodmoon is not considered a legendary as it can breed like a normal Ursaluna and is just a Ursaluna variant).

    I think a main reason we didn't get a ton of new Regional Variants this gen, is because of the whole new slew of Paradox Pokémon, along with the new "ecologically similar" Pokémon which are basically just Regional variants only cooler. I think they want to keep the regional variants around, but want to expand it, so they have room for more unique ideas with the concept.
    They've been doing it since gen 8.
    Gen 7 only had regional variants of specific Pokémon.
    Gen 8 opened the possibility of new evolutions for regional variants
    Gen 9 introduced Paradox Pokémon and ecologically similar Pokémon (I think only the latter will appear in later gens)

    The history of the masks and "how they got there" is given in the plot. When Ogerpon and her human got to Kitakami people didn't want them in the village due to fear so the only person who cared made them masks to blend in. That's all there is about them.

    It is interesting that, on a story level, they decided not to have the overarching goal be uncovering the hidden treasure of area zero. It seems like you could go into this DLC and completely forget that it's supposed to be part of that storyline. In terms of story I think that is a failure, and unfortunately I think it'll be a detriment to the overall narrative of the bundle. I hope it doesn't, ultimately, have a negative impact on the Indigo Disk. It hurts to think that Kieran may end up feeling like some rando from a spin-off by time we get to the Indigo Disk.

    In my opinion, I prefer this dlc waaay more than the crowned tundra.
    The story was so fun to follow, I really like the selection of Pokémon they brought back too. Kieran is probably my new favorite Pokémon character of all time, he was the reason I got the dlc in the first place, probably since I can relate to him a bunch. The music too is really good (specially the loyal three battle and both of kieran’s battles.)

    happy early birthday btw, but to be honest, even since day 1, I had zero performance issues or fps drops. people are free to say it's cap but to me that's how it went down. maybe it's because I'm 3 feet away from my router, or I'm on table top mode using the least amount of electricity , or I'm using an extended battery that has automatic cooling fans. but moving on, I find the story in theme to it's mature setting, and actually like the teases to dlc part 2. I theorize briar is the villian, carmine is the soldier with doubt, and kieran is the soldier that will fight to win, regardless of moral objection as long as he can successfully take you out.

    I was never much to care about performance and SV was already a trainwreck on that regard so I was not expecting ANY kind of improvement, so that might've influence that. And about regional forms/evolutions... Well, we got something. I won't say I wasn't expecting more of them, but I'm happy with what we have.
    And to tie things up, I think we all can agree that the Teal Mask was more a Setup for the Indigo Disk, with some story as bonus. And as a setup i think it works perfectly.

    Sounds like not enough time in the oven was the main issue, but still prepping for the next dlc. Speaking of game & region ideas (core or side) for upcoming ones, have you ever considered a trip to Korea or Taiwan, maybe Vietnam? I've a feeling those could make for nice Pokeregion bases (even both North & South Korea as well as nearby islands) & could give some nice opportunities for minigames (such as ones based off of ssireum & the fitted rules) & parts that could incorporate other aspects such as natures & personality traits, as well as showcasing the inner cultural diversities greater than many outsiders realize including those of the indigenous minorities

    It was alright, but it's very obvious that it's a preamble to DLC2. If not for the low scale of the story, then just for the returning pokémon being just kind of middling. At least Carmine and Kieran are interesting characters, but yeah. It's very obvious that this DLC was pretty much just to set up Carmine and Kieran to the player so that their actual story can play out in DLC2.

They are essentially re-skin vitamins giving 10 EV’s when used and have a special one the resets all EV’s when used just like Isle of Armor did with the discount vitamin vending machine and Lady Clear making EV spreading for competitive pokemon easier. But this is better cause these mochis are free!

    Hearing that it takes 5 hours tops to beat the DLC makes me even more compelled to wait until Indigo Disk.
    Which will make the wait all the more worthwhile imo. I truly can't wait to play Teal Mask and Indigo Disk at the same time once the second part of the DLC rolls around whether it be in the end of 2023 or start of 2024.
    Ohh, and by the way, there have been more buffs to older Pokemon that I wish you would've mentioned. Empoleon got Competitive instead of Defiant, Torterra now has Shell Smash and Headlong Rush, and Tyranitar got Knock Off for the first time. Ohhh, and Weavile got Knock Off back which is one step towards making Weavile more viable again now that Mega Weavile is stuck in Ubers.

I know that new stuff is cool too, but personally, I'm not a huge fan of regional varient. I personally love The Teal Mask and lag is the only issue but honestly it didn't last long. I can't speak for all regions and cartridges but i think that this corner of Europe overall gets luckier. I actually wanted some glitches and bugs to happen but i got very tame ones, if they even were bugs and glitches. The lag when it happened, didn't bother me. I do play other games other than Pokémon btw but i will still say that i don't really experience big issues. I know that's annoying but that's just how it is with my one copy of Violet. I will never get to see the bug/glitch of Wugtrio wrapping and strangling an NPC but you just might and i would say, you darn lucky bird. Anyways it was a nice twist that Ogerpon is a girl and that the not so Loyal Three are all male. Always neat to get another Legendary who isn't afraid to show its gender rather than keeping us guessing like certain Dragons, Wolves, Bears etc have been doing. I loved the mini Hisuian experience, the Kitakami Ogre Clan & Glitterati side quests were fun, it was nice to actually restore a destroyed site for once. I mean previous times, unless it was part of the after story requiring it to be restored, once something was destroyed during a Pokémon game's story, it stayed destroyed. So was nice to see it addressed here with the statues. As for Ogre Oustin, its fun but not easy to get to the next difficulty to get certain prizes i want. I have yet to try multiplayer on it so i'm looking forward to trying that by teaming up with people i know on it. I'm looking forward to exploring Blueberry Academy still as well
