He just slipped his head off like it was a helmet that wasn't even held on with straps. I don't think the imp could have done that even if it WASN'T a low level monster, because his body didn't even get lifted up. You pull on someone's head and it doesn't just come off, it lifts up the rest of his body.
I think what people don't quite understand about the intro cinematic is that we were totally going for a tongue in cheek kind of thing. Yes, it's totally cheesy. I had a Halloween party at my house to get the crowd talking for that briefing, and none of them could take it seriously :D You can actually even hear my friend say "we're actually all gay". If you look at the direction they took Doom 2016, you can obviously see they did the same thing. Doom 3 was totally serious, and we took it in a more funny direction. And of course we all knew it was silly. Animating in Doom 3 was also seriously difficult. Bryan Henderson did a great job with it all.
This is my favorite batch of remade levels for Doom, it keeps the structure of them completely intact while modifying with extra detail to make them more believable. Most remakes I've seen either make it identical except for texture quality and at least one that adds so much stuff and modifying the rooms to such a degree that it hardly resembles the original.
DaGamer101 truehd is a resolution, he was talking about the animation and voiceover quality. i could have recorded the whole vid in 1080p, but i had an old monitor.
It's cool to see how some of the original, rather surreal environments were reinterpreted and enhanced, but the character models and corpse disintegration keep the experience far removed from that of the original Doom series.
+Mario Kart Or someone will try to make it in Snap Map. One of the developers was asked if you could make E1M1 in it, and he joked that they can certainly try.
Man, I remember playing this mod about 11 years ago, as a kid. I was wowed by the mod at that time, but looking at it now, it doesn't aged that well... It's a 2006 mod, to be fair.
But at the end of Knee Deep in the Dead, you don't realise you're in Hell yet. You just teleport to the Deimos base (and yes, you die because you're technically going to Hell.) and then at the end of Shores of Hell that you realise you're at the Shores of Hell and that Deimos is literally floating above Hell... I read those text bits a lot, okay
I prefer the run and gun of the original Doom, however, the attention to detail and intactness of the original level design shows true love and skill for the original games. On a side, if you have not played any of the Doom games in VR via Oculus Rift or the like, it is a must do! These games are terrifying in VR, lol.....in a good way of course.
one of the things I will have to try some time is to play Doom with "silent monsters" enabled, if such a thing even exists, I think GzDoom has it... without having the sound cues to indicate that monsters saw you, that game must become terrifying, since you don't know where they are or where they are coming from... for an extra challenge
The homemade cutscenes are pretty charming, really. If anything could do with some work it's the Doom3 weapons. I never really enjoyed using that shotgun.
ok, i understand that making animation is not easy at all, and you did an amazing job, really, i am not flaming you... but god dammit i laughed like hell when that marine head came off so easily!
He just slipped his head off like it was a helmet that wasn't even held on with straps. I don't think the imp could have done that even if it WASN'T a low level monster, because his body didn't even get lifted up. You pull on someone's head and it doesn't just come off, it lifts up the rest of his body. What would have REALLY made it funny is if the guy's arms were searching the top of the shoulders and we heard a voice say "Oh my god, where's my head!"
PinkFloydrulez I kinda disagree. I mean, I like the originals too, but Doom 3 was still great too. It's a different kind of game, one based more on atmosphere then fast-paced shooting action. Like, I have to admit, Doom 1's design doesn't really translate to Doom 3 all that well. Like, this mod started really impressing me more when it started doing what Doom 3 did well in terms of being atmospheric.
Despite the very robotic characters in cutscenes, this mod looks great. Impressive job remaking all of the original maps Doom 3 style, even all the secret and out of bounds areas
+Cresh John Romero also approves of Strafe, he seems to be more the blood fountain addict kind of guy. Given that flopper of a game he tried to put out without the others at ID behind him, it doesn't seem like he contributed as much to Doom's overall success as people may think. It was mostly John Carmack.
***** Not all the maps but I get what you're saying. I guess my point is John Romero isn't the go to guy for opinions on games, considering the game he tried to make without ID behind him kinda sucked. He's not as good at judging game concepts as he is just making maps. I love a good action shooter as much as the next guy but just having mountains of gore doesn't make a game good.
Alper Sönmez But I'm guessing Doom wouldn't have had as much depth as it had if John Romero just handled all aspects of it. Not saying Doom is overtly complicated but it helps having wide open maps to explore and secret hunt in.
It's awesome how much work has gone into the detailing of the maps. But i can (once again) only conclude that gameplay wise (and even some esthetics) are way better with (Brutal) Doom / the original. It's one of those (many) cases in which old skool graphics and mechanics simply work. Animations and enemy behavior, punch of the weapons, the smooth movement through a level and the rather simple(r) mapdesign combined together simply give (for me) a way more enjoyable experience. Gameplay > Graphics.
Doomguy doesn't just "enter Hell." He gets ambushed and killed after defeating the Barons and materializes on the lost Deimos base which floats above Hell.
This looks great! (The game, not the intro) ... BTW is the shotgun stronger or better at distance compared to the original Doom 3? Seems like it is, to get closer to Doom 2 gameplay...

Thank God DooM was never famous for cinematic....
This has nothing to do with it being a 2004 game.
This is fan made content.
That cheesy intro just makes the game.
It's cool to see how some of the original, rather surreal environments were reinterpreted and enhanced, but the character models and corpse disintegration keep the experience far removed from that of the original Doom series.
the corpse disintegration was for hardware reasons, it would slow the game down with bodies everywhere when the game was made in 2004
I know. But it still detracted from the experience a bit.
ojideagu I know; but it still detracts from the experience.
JoeyGee1000 I know but having a game which is laggy as fuck detracts from the experience alot more then f*cking corpses

Not really, DooM 3 is like the doom movies, jut because a game and a movie has the same title, doesn't mean the game can be better than the movie.
