this is THE most authentic philippines vlog i've ever seen from a foreigner. thank you for being brave and taking the time to really get to know our authentic local culture and not just the fancy shiny places. the guides brought you to places locals really will go to. you even ate with your hands. you are amazing amy!
I LOVE how happy locals are to share their favorite foods and eating customs (like wrapping the hand). Never any shame, just happy to share their culture and love.
What an epic holiday to the Philippines. Congratulations on your engagement Amy and Derk!!!!! So happy for you two and looking forward to your future endeavours together. :)
I'm always so impressed by your ability to make local friends to show you around. How do you stay safe when you're on your own and have a local show you around?
Honestly just be nice and inviting and open to new experiences, I've found tons of local friends in different countries just by being respectful and intrigued by their customs
Welcome to the Philippines! It is so cute to see you as a foreigner out of your comfort zone. We Filipinos are so nice and welcoming! Maybe a little too nice in this case because we don’t really eat pancit with our hands 😂 I think they were just being nice and agreeing to whatever you suggested Kamayan (eating with hands) is usually reserved for rice + protein dishes, like fish, shrimp or crispy pork
I love how you asked the locals what to eat and how to eat it :) I need to go back to the Philippines and see more and eat more :) I love sisig and yes the fish is amazing! and pancit yum!! also, calamansi is life! :D great video!
You mentioned that in China they have an almost similar Halo halo, that is because our foods are basically influenced by the Chinese, Spanish and American. Go for Filipino originals like Sisig, dinuguan etc., ask the locals. Nice to see you in our country, ENJOY !
I've been to Manila once and the food that were Western or Chinese influenced like the shaomai and Jollibee weren't really memorable to me as I was already very familiar with them. What I really, really loved was sisig, bicol, lechon, tapa - those felt very authentically Filipino. Trying balut was also a new experience.
Filipino food is so delicious! I miss my favourite restaurant in Toronto so much! Pork Sisig with rice and a fried egg was my go-to meal and I loved pandan sweets. Halo Halo is something I've only tried a few times when I was pregnant; now I really want some! Congratulations to you both on your engagement! Amy, you and Derk make a lovely couple and I'm so happy for you both. 🥰
Finally! Welcome to the Philippines, Amy & Derk. The province of Cebu, where Moalboal is located, is a great jumping off point for your Philippine adventure. Everywhere in my country, you will find gorgeous sights, fun experiences, great food & culinary traditions and as you are discovering, the Philippines is home to the friendliest, most hospitable people on the planet. #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines 🇵🇭
You are very entertaining and such a straight talker and most of all you’re so brave with ur NO HOLDS BARRED approach in dipping n embracing our Filipino Culture❤️🥰! From foods, to talking to native n for everything u immersed urself into while in the Philippines! So heartwarming to see that u are enjoying ur stay, vacation n experience in our humble country! New sub here from Ireland❤️! Looking forward to more videos! Oh bfore I forget, any brand u can recommend about that 360 camera that u mentioned here in ur vlog thanks! Enjoy Philippines and do take care always! 🙏❤️
Phillipines is close to China so their food are influenced a lot by China. Even here in Indonesia, our siomay are localized and use peanut sauce, sweet soybean sauce and also the calamansi.
try to visit Corrigidor island, about 20 mins ride in a fastcraft, boarding location is at the back of Cultural Center Manila...it is a WW2 war memorial
Filipinos do comfort food really well and Halo halo in the Philippines is a joy. Cheap, delicious and guaranteed Ube ice cream. In Australia, you can pay 5-10x as much and not get Ube.
I've tried Jollibee for the first time last year and I like it mostly just didn't like their mash potato. It was more of a potato jello then mash potato but overall I would rank it over KFC but under Popeye's. Kyochon 1991 is on the top of my list for fried chicken right now. It's interesting how the selfie stick disappear in the video but not it's shadow. 3:29 Hilarious LoL!!! The shio mai, yup the Chinese immigrated to the Philippines also.
Looks like a place of fun and adventure. Rustic and alluring. Roughing it out a bit but the place looks clean. Definitely interesting for a S$35/night hostel-style accommodation.
Amy I have been following your journey for many years now. I am from Perth. I have not made any comment but this time is different as I have to congratulate you and Derk of your engagement. What a handsome couple
Welcome to the Philippines. I’ve been watching your China food adventure here in YT but I discover u first in Tiktok. And I’m kinda shock you love our foods given that you have tried so many foods in China. I just hope you have a local tour guide who can explain well about the food and its history.
AHHH MY MOST AWAITED VIDEO! I'm so glad that you went to a very local place instead of going to more fancy and touristy cities for your first time in the country. You actually had a full Filipino experience with the mini eatery/diners (we call them carenderia), the small bakeries, tricycles, and calamansi in almost everything that we eat. Looking forward for more in the next videos!
Oh this is great. I need more content about the Philippines and here you are. I love the Filipino food we can get in Hong Kong and Macau, with Sisig, Tapsilog, Sinigang, and Dinuguan being some of my favourites but i have no idea about where to travel to, especially around Cebu. Thanks so much for sharing your trip, i'd love to go get a PADI refresher there.
While in Cebu, try the local cebu lechon. It is very different from the regular lechon found everywhere else in the Philippines. Ask the locals for recommendations for Cebu lechon, or go for CnT lechon. Will you be going to Manila..?
so happy you could share you trip to the philippines with us! :) can't wait to see more and a big congratulations to you and derk on the engagement!! ♥
Filipino food is so underrated! Put on your list a good pinakbet, crispy pata and bagoong! out of this world. Calamansi makes everything taste better! YUM!
I'm so glad that you two made it to the Philippines. I just returned home from my second 1 month visit there this year. You've already discovered the most striking feature of all-Filipinos are the kindest most welcoming people that I have ever met. In the big cities or out in the province, I have always felt completely at ease walking in and out of places totally new to me. Looking forward to much more from my "home away from home" from you and Derk.
I missed boracay. Last timr when went was last February 2023 and we did scuba diving and we saw lots of clown fishes and parrot fishes. After hardwork, boracay is one of the best place to relax.
Love myself some sisig with egg and rice. Aside from the local flavor, there are some Filipino food that were influenced by the Chineses and the Spaniards and even the US.

Seeing Jolan’s genuine expression saying “Nooooooo, Veeerrry Spicy” in a squeaky tone is priceless and adorable. 😅

Filipino food are so good… need good sisig in nyc lol
😊
A lot of Filipino food is like 'what if we took some foreign dish, and give it a couple little twists?' And usually the twists are quite amazing
I've been to Manila once and the food that were Western or Chinese influenced like the shaomai and Jollibee weren't really memorable to me as I was already very familiar with them. Ahhh Filipino food really AWSOME!! THE BEST IN THE WEST!!
Halo halo was inspired from kakigori which is of Japanese origin. Having said that, you can now find Halo-halo in some Japanese convenience stores.
