Many people want to see Nate get his ego stomped in the next season for being a prick in Season 2, but more than anything, I want to see Rupert get curbstomped
I’d say neither. This show is not about winning and humiliating the assholes. That’s below this show. I’d way rather see Nate realize that Rupert’s way is not the right one. I think Nate still has a chance at redemption. Hard to see Rupert redeemed though.
My theory? His age and stress of the competing clubs catches up to him in a big way and he has a cardiac arrest. Rebecca has her chance to gloat at the hospital but doesn’t take it because all throughout S3 with Nate it’s shown kicking others when they’re down isn’t as satisfying as one might hope. Instead, Rupert confesses that this is a huge wake-up call for him... by the time his daughter finishes primary school he will be a decrepit old man with a pacemaker and that’ll be the only memories he can give to his only lasting, real legacy, unless he makes big changes quick. So I guess you could say... he has a literal change of heart.
@@timothyflynn2738 i can absolutely see that as a way for Rupert to redeem himself, however unlikely it may be, id want that to be the scene if ever it happens
"You're not a character in the Bible" is a good burn for a man that age wanting to become a Daddy. I'm 42, and I have pretty much accepted that I will have one. I couldn't imagine wanting to have a child you know you probably won't live to see grow up.
I felt Stinky’s pain her so much. She might’ve wanted a child of her own before but didn’t because of her love for Rupert. And I know all too well the pain of seeing the person you loved do something, that they never did with you, do with someone else. I just really feel for her here especially because she said, “He took a lot from me” in other episodes.
Rupert did it so he could watch the pain he could still inflict. And then said what he said with calm composed malice, contempt, and glee as he torments Rebecca with his utterly despicable self.
What I think is particularly fascinating about this scene was that it was followed immediately by Rebecca going downstairs to Ted to come completely clean about her scheme. Maybe she realized that, no matter how much she tries to get back at Rupert, there's no depth to which he won't sink to hurt her. Maybe she realized in the face of a man that contemptuous, there was no point in continuing her quest for petty revenge.
It also might be that she realized he really is just a big fan of a bad team. That means he will see the sports page, probably not watch the game or even the highlights, snarl and swear for a while...and then go on with the rest of his day like absolutely nothing happened. And that's it.
The best part of this is that he held back. There's an argument that he really means what he says and really thinks the way he's portraying. That's down to writing and a great performance. Slimy and manipulative and all of that are great. But slimy and manipulative AND arguably not doing it out of spite? Oh that's better. A natural asshole is a better character than someone trying to be.
Nah he's clearly doing it out of spite otherwise he wouldn't have gone to specifically tell her in the first place. That's just him saving face and saying he didn't mean to say that. But Anthony head is fantastic though
@@mitchellbrough1615 We've seen now multiple times what his spite looks like and I still maintain that conversation wasn't it. His spite is sneaky and conniving with lots of "devil in the ear" behavior. This was direct and straightforward. And again, he actually stopped himself from saying "I didn't want to have a baby with you". I think this was him attempting to be genuine and still just being an asshole naturally. Later he seems genuinely happy to be a father as well. It does seem that this particular decision really did mean a lot to him.
“I’m so glad I got to tell you in person” pretty much removes all doubt. He did jt knowing it was an asshole thing to do and he just wanted to see her reaction. Her eyes getting teary satisfied him.
@@ilo5736 Remmeber that up til that point we had gotten multiple complaints from her about how he never told her things in person and she found out stuff via tabloids. For all the Faults of Rupert (and those are many) he truly recognized the level of a great subordinate. The first comment he has about hearing Higgins got fired was "Why? He's first class!". Higgins is truly capable and probably the most competent person in the whole Richmond Club, and it's nice to see that it's acknowledged
I feel like I may have met some people who care enough about a sports team to think this is an equivalent response to Rebecca fucking over the Richmond team.
@@benjihuynh2970 he's a sick f*ck. He cheated on her for years and said for decades he didn't want a child, just to know when she probably thinks that time is over for her to have one, just to watch it hurt her.

I haven't watched the series yet. I've been content so far with clips, analysis, & popular commentary. I understand it's excellent. That said... Pretending to care by saying "I wanted to be the one to tell you..." He just wanted to see the look on her face up close. Especially given that the newer woman is also named Rebecca, is younger, etc. We don't know what their conversations were like when he shut down on her when children came up during their marriage. Truth may be that the child was unintended but is already another opportunity to hit back at her for taking the team, the divorce, etc. I'm glad Rebecca held her ground, & stayed on the path to releasing the spite because this bitter cycle could've continued for the rest of their lives.
Rupert telling her that was harsh and in the later season when she already knew beforehand she couldn’t have children. To hear the confirmation from the doctor again it must’ve been so painful. It just shows how cruel Rupert can be, at the party he remarks her dress being “youthful” which is a dig on her age. Now this wasn’t just a calculated move it was a stab and ripping the heart to shreds all over again.
Was thinking the same, doubt he did, at least not perfectly, it sounded more just like: zoip zip, bebede boop bap, kinda thing, I think there were words he said in forward mode , than reverse, plus he didn't do the hands to ears
There are a lot of things i wouldn't have a problem doing to people. But what this guy did, that i can't do. I'm only a mean bastard when people beg for it.
I think it's the only good thing they showed him do, was at least be upfront with people, even if there are other negative attachments to that, like here wanting to run a few things in her face, but he is upfront
This isn't him being upfront. He blugeoned her with info he knew would hurt her, and did it in person because he wanted to see the pain. This dude is such an a-hole, makes a fantastic antagonist tho.
