Sad reality is, that while the UFC does underpay it's fighters, it at least guarantees fights for it's fighters. If you're someone like Izzy or Volk making that champ money *AND* fighting a few times a year you're going to be a millionaire. But Francis, while a great fighter, dragged his feet a lot while he was champ. Man went 18 months without defending the title, and only did so after Dana gave an interim belt to Gane

TJ, I think there's some additional context for 4:03 you missed. When Francis won the belt in March gainst Stipe, the UFC wanted him to turn around and fight in June. Francis said it was too soon, had visa issues that won't be resolved until June, and so he wants July or August.
However, when the time came for August, Francis was shooting F9 (hence the taking a vacation angle) and was not prepared to fight. The UFC made the interim because Francis was not honest with the UFC and scheduled a movie shoot for a time frame he would've been eligible to fight. They made it interim to make it worth the money as a ppv

He can turn it around and I see 2 major options:
    1. Start fighting lower level boxers and work his way up to be respected within the sport. It will take some time but his stardom will still help him progress faster.
    2. Get into a MMA promotion and become their superstar. Bellator, PFL etc would love to have a name like Ngannou and will bend over backwards if he hitches his wagon to them. He has the potential to make another HW division basically from the ground up by being a potential Best in the World-contender.

yep I said the same thing, now it's been over 2 years and no fights are happening. I think this will go down as one of the worst decisions ever made by a UFC champ. Ya, his manager sucked. Talking him into the contract would have given him a nice payday from the percentage cut. Kevin was to focused on his own career as a fighter to strike a boxing deal with bigger names anyways. So it's not like they had leverage to go somewhere else. Francis is my favorite fighter of all time and we probably won't get to see him fight again, because they let their egos get in the way and they've pretty much been black listed.

It was held in the middle of the day on a weekend; of course it's not going to be a PPV smash.

Add to that the fact that he thinks he's worth a minimum of 8 figures per fight and it's no wonder he hasn't fought yet. If he was any smarter he would've agreed to fight any somewhat known boxer even at a 70/30 split.
