  • See it as I saw it on a walk around Causeway Bay, a commercial district with some of the highest rents in the world. So of course there are lots of watch stores and business seems pretty slow...

    This was probably the best state of the watch market that I’ve seen Uptick thanks

    There’s something overwhelming, bordering on nauseating, seeing all those Rolexes in those windows, just sitting there unworn and unloved. Even ignoring the fact (injustice?) that there are hundreds of thousands sitting on waitlists, it just shows you the sheer volume of production and the number of the watches that are out there.
    On another point arising from your video, I recently tried some Patek Gondolo models on in London and was really impressed. Excellent option for a dress/office watch that would fly under the radar.

      I'm starting to like the shape of the Gondolo myself, not your classic tonneau, pretty cool and different.

    Great video as always. This would be my kind of shopping trip! The market is definitely cooling off big time, so it’s interesting to see signs of it in HK. Here in the UK I’ve seen plenty of dealers sitting on stock that refuses to shift. Rolex sits in its own bubble, but I reckon it will soon be a good time to buy a used Omega, Tudor etc. I’d quite fancy a BB Chrono at the right price. Cheers!

    I like the HK watch safari videos as much for the city tour as for the watches. The Yachtmaster is my favorite water sports Rolex. I agree with you about the 36 mm Explorer. I tried one on recently and it’s tiny, with the bracelet tapering down to dental floss. No way on my 18 cm wrist. And I’m pretty sure I saw a friend of mine walking by in the video!

    • @jeanrolodex6270
      @jeanrolodex6270 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the explorer 36mm, many people like this size because this one is among the quintessential models made by the brand. I have a 17.5 wrist but I would not change mine for a 39mm even though it might look better. I prefer the 1016 vibe.

    Hello UptickWatchReviews. I enjoy your comprehensive videos very much. I learned very much. Thank you for showing us the "mecca" of watch shops in the world of which is Hong Kong. One thing I would like to add that might improve the video is the zooming aspects of your camera. I suggest as you walk around, please zoom out so that the video would not be dizzying. As you get closer to the displays, please zoom in then. I know you had a lot to cover, and it is sometimes hard to walk, talk and focus the camera in the busy city of Hong Kong. Great job as always!

    Thank you for another great video. I’m heading to HK in 10 days time. I have a budget of 30-40k (hk$] to spend on a watch. I’m looking to replace my automatic tag Aquaracer I’ve been wearing for the past 20 year! Can you give me some advice as to what models are achievable at that budget and what to avoid. I was last back in hk in 2019 and regret buying a used speed master that was $20k in a small shop in sha tin.

    we can now find some Rolex in AD
    i think rolex will raise just a little in 1 ~2 months later, then it will go down again
    For PP, I can say is all their popular watches has been "order" before they even arrive in the shops....
    that make sense why there are only 21, quatz and other classical watch

      Dur à dire vu que Macau est séparé de HK depuis presque trois ans. Il y a peut-être des bonnes affaires à trouver vu que d'un côté les chinois semblent revendre pas mal de leurs objets de luxes pour le moment, ne veulent rien acheter, et vont moins au casinos. En tout cas j'éviterais d'acheter en boutique.

    Just went to CWB to try the ZENITH white dial and a 16613 at Times Watch. The seller (which I suppose own the place) is far from being a salesman and way too pushy. The kind of guy that assumes that you have $86k in the back pocket of your pants just in case you wanna buy a watch. Doesn't even bother to really answer the questions I had.
    Positive note, the ZENITH is a gorgeous looking watch on the wrist.
    Also, Swiss Watches was open.

    Seriously, there's nothing special about a Rolex when you see them lined up like Casios over there. I hope one day these silly AD games will end soon so we can get them for decent prices.

    • @Nexus.Achiles
      @Nexus.Achiles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kind of agree, seeing so many Rolex watches lined up together like cheap Seikos somehow devalues the pieces, or at least makes them look less special. 🤔

    I entered a Rolex shop in HK, and asked if I could buy anything. Of course, they replied it's for exhibition only. So I sarcastically said: so this is not a shop, it is a Rolex MUSEUM since these watches are for EXHIBITION only. Hey uptick, is it possible that the grey market shops in Dundas are owned by these AD's? ;-)

    Market in the toilet cause dealers are reluctant to get used to the new normal. They reduce their spreads and people will buy. Date Sub and no date subs are probably the only decently priced watches at the moment in Hk.

    I think the nonsense is over and fools aren’t chasing fools with more and more money. I’m enjoying watching the market crash especially as brand’s like Rolex played us like a fiddle. I don’t think I would want a Rolex now. It’s a mugger’s favourite brand along with people who know nothing about watches but want to look like they have money 🤦🏻‍♂️ they’ve dug their own grave.

  • @Ervinyj

    Rolex produce decent watch and it may outlast human life. Everytime you visit any grey dealers, the Rolex watches are sitting there and it out number any brand anytime. All the fame or 'air' of owning a Rolex will just vanish the moment you see the grey shop stocks. Rolex is too too common in the past, now and forever. May be one day, everyone in the world can afford a Rolex soon..
