Its so funny to look back on this and see how important it was in my steps toward making my first film. Phantom of the opera was always such an inspiration to me, and it truly still is. If you liked this then you would certainly be interested in seeing what ive been working on recently : th-cam.com/video/K4yEJVBv7R4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1G7xAaNNqa6ms7MJ More of the gothic-romance sort of vibes that Phantom inspired. Also skeletons. (I am also much better at drawing and animating now!!)
I love the addition in the dance break number of Christine constantly thinking that the phantom is right there, only for it to be just another party member. That adds a lot of tension, and really shows her constant fear of being trapped as a prisoner to The Phantom. It would also be really cool if at 3:41, we see the shadow of Phantom (in Red Death outfit) start to emerge on the wall from the ground-up (indicating that he has just arrived at the top of the staircase.) Christine then notices the shadow, and turns around in horror to see The Phantom (Red Death) in all his terrifying glory. Everyone else at the ball freezes (some may scream in fear), and then turn towards the Phantom as well.
Thank you for your comment! Very interesting visual description, if I made it now I'd definitely incorporate more shadows. I've learned and grown as an artist a lot since I've made this video, but I still love phantom of the opera!
This is incredible! I love how you had Erik actually look distraught and heartbroken when he realized that Christine was engaged to Raoul. It makes you feel for him more, since that scene can often times just look like he's just trying to lord over his power and control over her. But here, it looks more like he's acting out of anger caused by his broken heart and jealousy. Which makes it so much better in my opinion. :D
Agreed 100 %. I also love the addition in the dance break number of Christine constantly thinking that the phantom is right there, only for it to be just another party member. Absolutely LOVE how you did this scene. Christine never truly comfortable surrounded by the masks, til it grows to an almost anxiety of it. The only truly happy or calm moments is when she's back with Raoul, keeping her grounded and safe. Plus there is something so endearing with the style being such a cute fun cartoon. So when it takes a serious turn it really pops! And the long shot we have for Erik, the emotions he goes through upon seeing Christine, the ring, and finally his proclamation. So good!
The role has traditionally been sung by tenors. Baritones can sing his parts, though they still require range to pull it off. Personally, I wouldn’t mind hearing a bass play him (though it would cause complications for the Dpn Juan scene). But I actually think the creepy tenor works for this scene; it just sounds more “ghostly”, while baritones / bass sound more “vampire-y”, if that makes sense.
I am so happy that there are more phantom of the opera animatics being made T-T I remember searching for some about 2-3 years ago and there were hardly any back then. Regardless, this was beautiful! I loved it :D
You know what's said many people probably wouldn't have died if Christine had respected his personal bubble request or talked to him with madam girdy. I love this animatic, you express show much and I can see how the characters felt. Brava!! Bravissimo!!
YOUR STYLE IS SO EXPRESSIVEE, i adore the different angles you used during the sort of turning point of the song + the addition of color, really really great stuff!!! :]] (sorry i got to this late though ahsjshsb!!)
@havehope646 thank you! not sure if I'll do another animatic but I'm still making spooky/macabre animated videos, if you liked this then maybe check out my project???? youtube.com/@losdeselatosfilms?si=qJvzUrtoGobAYPZz Thanks!!
😯Oooh, that was wicked scary for your Animatic video you made, Drawn By Dragonfly. I like it. You know, I had it on DVD on blue-ray on amazon of the phantom of the opera. Well, I watched with my grandparents and my little cousin and they loved it very much on Halloween these days.😊
Well thought out panel movement. Phew. I know you had labouring hands on this one. Like the whole variation of the waltz montage. Lol 'when she awkwardly turned away'.
Just checked your channel, interesting! I'm also a big fan of The Theif and the Cobbler. I might revisit this project some day, especially since The Phantom of the Opera just closed on Broadway last night. I have definitely grown as an artist and animator since making this. Thank you for your support!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your comment 🥰
We need an animated version of this musical.
Totally. THIS will show those stupid Oscar’s that animation isn’t something to “Distract your kids with,” IT’S A MEDIUM! NOT A GENRE!
FACTS!!! YEAH!!!
I expected Erik to sound more deeper and grim yet sounds like a gentleman.

Love how you depicted that Christine thinking she keeps seeing the Phantom 🥰
