I have one drift wood that keeps floating. I did not boil it. I will see if I have a pot large enough. I have been soaking it for a week changing the water using hot and holding it down in the water. one end is downward and the other just pulls it up. Thanks for the video.
You could pull off getting close to boiling in a bathtub. Perhaps a hot water bath is enough. I work construction so my tubs seen worse than what will come off a log.
I always enjoy your videos. I like your approach to the large piece of driftwood. There are probably always pollutants in a stream or river. Especially farm fertilizers and insecticides. The thing is that a piece of driftwood is not a sponge for collecting pollutants. It probably will have some but they didn't go into the wood overnight and probably will not leach out overnight. If you are doing regular water changes I would say it probably will not be a problem. You are a lot like me. If I see something in the stream bed I can use in my aquarium the advantages outweigh the risk within reason. If for example, I find a cool-looking rock when I am digging around in the garden it is getting washed off and added to the tank. I have been doing this since I was a kid and I am an old man now. I have never had bad luck doing this. I have never been an expert in geology but it only makes sense to stay away from things like limestone. With a little common sense, there are lots of things out in nature that a hobbyist can find for free and have a good time out in the woods back at the stream bed. In my opinion, the risk is minimal while the gain way outweighs the risk. The aquarist who has never gone to the woods and streams to find these treasures is missing half of the fun of the hobby.
I got a big piece of wood like that, got it soaking in the bath in water as hot as the boiler will go with a 5kg dumbell holding it down, over night it still floats if I remove the weight but im hoping after another drain and re fill with hot water over night should do the trick, may take a few days? Gotta sink eventually though right?
Not sure why there's negative comments lol... nice vid. I live on a lake and been seeing logs in the water for a couple years finally today I pulled a few out I think one was a root it's a cork screw with rocks imbeded into the wood it looks sick! One I found I'm going to use in my tank I got it soaking in bleach right now (I'm pretty sure it's fine I bleached rocks that had aptasia anemones in the past and put them back with corals but maybe it soaks in the wood so idk for sure) then I'm going to boil it as it looks like it will help it sink and will probably get any bleach out. So stoked! Thanks for the vid.
I had purchased two drift woods for my 10 gal and 20 gal tank. The first one I had boiled in a pot of water for like an hour each day until I got the tannins out. Once I added to the fish tank it didn't float as much and held it down with a rock. The second took a little longer because it's a little bit bigger. I wouldn't just add hot water over the drift wood into an aquarium, it makes no sense
Me tho what the heck i am doing wrong. Worst thing i bought for my aquarium, its just mess up with my water and now my aquarium is not clear anymore. I try to fix some screw at the bottom with some fishing line and rock and still want to float even with 6onz rock lol
If it’s chemicals you worry about, boiling water is not gonna do much. I cleaned and sanded my large piece of wood, cleaned it with a brush in yes, the bathtub and gonna let it cook for a few days in the strong August sun.
I live by the ocean and we went to a restaurant by water and behind the restaurant was an abandoned beach and I found 2 pieces of drift wood 🪵 and I was able to boil one
As another veiwer commented you can use a tile drill bit, drill through some ceramic floor tile (or slate) then put some screws through the tile into the driftwood. What I've done in the past is picked an area of driftwood that wont be visible & drill something like a 1/2" hole into a longer section of the driftwood. Then I'll use a hacksaw & cut off a piece of 1/2" stainless steel rod slightly shorter then the hole I drilled, then I'll push the stainless steel rod into the hole so its not visible.
$30.00 for a piece of wood LMAO I went to my local estate park and I found plenty of that shit for free and also I found cool rocks! I've seen Pet stores selling those here in NYC for a $50.00 a piece!! damn! shame less peeps

If you have something like a crab pot, do you think it would work to boil half then flip it to the other end and boil it ?

Mine has been floating for over a month now. I actually like the floating effect.
Is it still floating?
Same I like the floating Malaysia driftwood I have

Mackrelmore lol
@@hoodrichmahfucka you look the same dude 😛
this video does not help me or anyone really, he just keeps going on and on aboyt himself wtf
If if doesnt sink after awhile, use stainless steel screws and screw it to slate rock and cover the rock with substrate 🤘🤘
how about nail? the substrate gonna get the iron too?
Chance to lose all ur shrimp with time when you use screws in water.

I've used a masonry bit to drill a hole through a heavier rock, and ran a galvanized bolt

I've boiled a piece 3 times it still floats like a dove.

I have a 55 gal drum I pre water log my wood with
That's a ghost, bro.
Thanks bud 🤜🏻🤛🏻
When I boiled my drift wood & it’s still floating 😭😭
How long did this take to sink?
nice crocodile.. really look like a floating wood
I used lead strips to weigh down wood, then remove them when I think it won't float. Just coil it around both ends, simple 😊
I just picked up a few small pieces for my 39 gallon about to boil them. Thanks 🙏
My other pieces of Gnarky wood i just weighted them down with rocks for two days .
I have a piece of wood that I've pinned down for a week now. Yet it's still floating. I'm wondering will it ever sink
Did it ever sink?
@@RCghostRC no.
Do you ever get that sinking feeling😂Mine’s on the boil now, I keep turning it round,,then put the other end in.. been at it for over four hours now😏

I keep tannens in my wood because I use it for my caiman and want a more natrulistic approach keeping some tented color water instead of clear
How many days do I need to hold it down in water
it depends
chris weres all ur tanks and fish from ur old place
He already got into that on his live streams. You should really watch those he keeps it interesting and answers almost all questions.
Had to make a custom containers out of mine,3 feet for longer drift wood.
Epson salt soaked in bathtub pinned down with rock.... We are fish keepers after all....so what's a little light scrubbing in the tub
How long till the wood sinks if I just put it in? No boiling
Months
You could get a submersible heat coil and boil it in the tank
That could destroy the tank
I live by the ocean and we went to a restaurant by water and behind the restaurant was an abandoned beach and I found 2 pieces of drift wood 🪵 and I was able to boil one
drill holes
Small holes into the wood
See if it works
Super glue or silicone it to the aquarium directly.
I have the big drift wood and it is floating, how i should fix,plz help
You cut it up, boil it and be a real aquascaper and glue it back together! Easy, no safety issues and no weird waiting stage!
I think a branch for 30 dollars is ridiculous lol
Jesus Christ, Marie! They're minerals!
That’s cheap!
I used a crawfish pot to boil my big piece of driftwood. I let it soak for 3 weeks and it still floats. Ahhhhhh
Mine is to
Maybe fill up a kitty pool with water n put rocks over it so it stays under water for a couple of weeks
When your wood is so MASSIVE it takes days to get properly wet....
I boiled it and its still floating lol
I tried the slat but it still floats
I put meth blue in my tank silly Me,how can I get the blue stain out of my piece of lovely wood?
Who would’ve thought that driftwood floats?
Weigh it down with something for a few weeks
You dont have an ideea how much you helped me
I have boiled it it is not sinking

you put driftwood in a pot of water and cook for 1-2 hours it will sink
That doesn’t work all the time
To decontaminate,, Soak it in a tub with a hydrogen peroxide/ water solution.
Tie it down with fishing line
Wdh u bought it for 30 bucks, i sell the same size for only 4 bucks like for real
$30.00 for a piece of wood LMAO I went to my local estate park and I found plenty of that shit for free and also I found cool rocks! I've seen Pet stores selling those here in NYC for a $50.00 a piece!! damn! shame less peeps
Yup, I just left the lake with a trunk full
