    Landis gets three people killed, goes on to have a fine career, while other careers are ruined by a grope session or a couple of tweets. Thanks for this video. I've been a fan of The Twilight Zone my whole life. Of course I remember the accident, but I've never known exactly what happened. I'm appalled at Landis' cavalier attitude and callousness over the results.

      Yeah it's wrong. But also, like who? Louis CK had to sit out for a year tops. Manson won a Grammy after a year. Spacey is back acting again. The only one they got was Weinstein. Please never minimise SA like that again, bootlicker. These "cancelled" people on Twitter are still on Twitter, they still have their $100 million Netflix specials, Bill Maher still has his creepy PDF show, Open Naz are on the platform. Your "cancel culture" is actually just regular people having a go at celebrities, they're not used to it, they're used to adulations from their fans and MSM "fair and balanced(TM)" and they cry about it continually...on their massive platforms that they still have. You want to know who got fired over Dave Chapelle? The transwoman. If you think Hcst Denial or minimisation is not a big issue that says more about you than everyone else, doesn't it?

    What really gets under my skin is just the jovial, juvenile way John Landis acts in interviews for TV specials and documentaries when one of the biggest, bloodiest tragedies in film history he was responsible for is still dangling over his head like the sword of Damocles... and he acts as though it never happened with the tone of his voice and the look on his face when it clearly did!!! I understand that we all have to get on with our lives and not be burdened by past mistakes of our own doing, but something as extreme as this is NOT something you just sweep under the rug!!! If I were a filmmaker who had made a mistake like THIS, I wouldn't be so crass and callous about it, certainly WOULDN'T pretend it didn't happen - if anything, it would be MORE than enough cause for me to accept both blame and guilt for the crime and quit filmmaking altogether!!! That the parents of the children were THERE when the tragedy happened and saw their own children practically taken from them along with Morrow with their own eyes after being falsely reassured by Landis of no danger is MORE than merely heartbreaking, it's purely MORTIFYING on a deep and personal scale that I doubt ANYONE would be able to stomach!!! That it's not just him but a lot of people in Hollywood who know all about it yet tiptoed around the issue just to save their own hides and careers is just as cowardly and undignified as those who knew about Harvey Weinstein's crimes yet didn't openly speak about it publicly much earlier before #MeToo!!!

    • @TRINZINI
      @TRINZINI 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      In his interviews, Landis manipulatively keeps repeating the word "ACCIDENT" as if he's trying to convince us and himself that that's all it was. Man, it was no accident that he illegally hired those two kids and put their lives (and Vic Morrow's) in jeopardy when there was absolutely NO NEED TO. (The close-up of Morrow running with the kids could have been shot with a few windblowing machines and, with good editing, no one would have seen any difference and everyone's life would have been saved).

Exactly true. If you don't deal with what you've done you'll be tortured forever. I caused an accident that killed two people in 1988. it was all my fault. A horrible, horrible matter. It took over ten years to get my life back together again.

      It's like the Alec Baldwin situation. If he had shown utter remorse and guilt for killing someone onset, then we may have accepted the accident. But it's the way he arrogantly made it all about himself and refused to have any kind of responsibility. The guy who inadvertently shot Brandon Lee dead had nightmares the rest of his life about what he'd done and yet Alec Baldwin just gets right in with life.

    Landis's abhorrent lack of remorse is typical clinical Narcissism. They are always the victim no matter how their actions affect or harm others. What a horrific tragedy on all levels. The director and producers were knowingly breaking the law that put these children in the middle of this tragedy and yet the justice system provides no consequences. I'm confident Carma has found J.L. and will continue to shadow him till his last moments.

    • @scootermom1791
      @scootermom1791 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's exactly what I was thinking: narcissist. Everything is everyone else's fault, so why SHOULD he feel remorse? That's probably what he thinks considering his callousness in interviews regarding the accident. He should have been criminally charged and imprisoned. Maybe that would have given him a dose of reality.
      Instead, he goes on to have a successful career, which he didn't deserve. Narcissists tend to get away with a lot more than they should which only enables their behavior. They put on the charm to avoid punishment for themselves while blaming others instead.

    I remember reading an account of that tragedy in which the pilot of that helicopter was within a hair's breadth of walking off the project because of the danger and the proximity of those pyrothechnics. I still can't believe Landis got away with this - and that, to this day, it doesn't even seem to register on his conscience. Hollyweird.

    This was yet another instance of the LA DA's office screwing up a prosecution. Landis should have been found guilty and never worked in Hollywood again. It's a crying shame that none of that ever happened. I read the book about the accident and the trial and was sickened that he never paid any price for his role in the deaths of three people. And that he actually had the unmitigated gall to show up at the funerals and speak. If I'd been a family member he would have left the cemetery in an ambulance. But that's Hollywood folks.

Especially slasher films like the ones popular in the 1970s-80s - 90s on up!

    Of course this was a horrific accident that happened. But that doesn’t mean it was no ones fault. Landis was the director and, I believe, a producer. He
    1. had a scene involving live amo when they had characters using weapons because, I guess, it was cheaper than dummy bullets or special effects
    2. hired those kids under the table, knowing that they were legally not allowed to film so late
    3. He was obviously partially responsible for putting all three of the victims in a dangerous setting, so close to real explosions and a giant helicopter just 24 feet above them
    If he wasn’t put in jail for negligence and manslaughter, he absolutely should’ve been booked up for illegally hiring those children. What’s worse is that he even showed his smug face at all three funerals of the victims. If I were a family member, in my grief, I would have him BARRED.

      Aggrevated manslaughter is nowhere near a life term and it never will be. The reason being that the intent was not to kill the actors. The intent was to ignore safety to get a good shot. For example if you were to show a frank disregard for other people's safety by using a mobile phone while driving, and 3 people died because you were distracted and caused a fatal accident, you would get between 10 and 30 years, depending on the area of the world you got charged in. Manslaughter is not murder.

On the other hand, I also met actor Leslie Grantham who was a convicted murderer. I've also got the autograph of actor Gig Young who killed his wife and himself. I guess every childhood hero has some skeleton in the closet or incident that goes against our moral system, but where do you draw the line and when should the art and the artist not be separated?
