@wendy-1250 I had figured, my apologies for coming off with a rude tone. I am going to guess that it is similar to how it is hard to actually put down accent for French with an English keyboard, because the accents simply aren't there, and I do apologize if that came across as presumptuous or anything like that.

My father’s favorite hobby was gardening, and he was a master at it. There was a small drawer in his casket. In that drawer, we placed a cap from his business he owned (a paint store), a golf ball (he loved playing golf (even though he’d once thought it was odd how “grown men were in a field, chasing a ball around 😂), and a little sign one of his customers had given him, that read, “Gardeners Know All the Dirt”. It’s been 22 years and I still miss him so much.

My BF dreamed that he was at his own funeral but they had tried to bury him without his boots--we're from Texas--and he was so mad he crawled out of the casket and went to find them. The way he dreamed it, it took everyone entirely too long to notice that he was out and around, mingling with the guests. From what I hear here, I'll have to tell him to make sure they make an exception to the no-shoes rule. He's just about stubborn enough to haunt us if we don't include the boots.

A friends son drowned a few years ago. He, and their entire family, love the renfair and he was buried with his sword and, I assume, his favorite flannel and jeans, that man LOVED his jeans would sleep in his jeans. Everybody at the funeral was dressed in their best renfair garb, including me. He was gay and the local flower shop made rainbow roses, white roses dyed rainbow with colored water, and everyone was invited to place them in his casket, so was put to rest with the most beautiful whimsical bouquet of colorful roses. It was a wonderful, very sorrowful, service and we sat there for hours as people upon people went up to the podium and went on and on about how wonderful he was in life. It was a lovely ceremony. Truly honored his life.

My mom and dad passed a few months ago. My mom on 2/26 and my dad in 3/1. Very fitting. They were always together. We had limited funds so they were both cremated and put together in an urn and obviously buried together. Not strange, just fitting for them. They would have celebrated their 65th anniversary this past May. I don't think I've ever seen 2 people more in love all the way to the end.

4:02 now I want a book with a world where everyone wears fine suits and jewelry, and the protagonist spends the entire book naked. nobody knows why all the clothes he tries to wear disappear, and why there's an overwhelming amount of suits and fake pearl necklaces. the whole place is very eerie, but no one knows how they got there, or what their purpose there is. no one dies on that place, though they seem to have an instinctual understanding of what death is. some plot happens and in the end the obvious twist is everyone is dead, and those were the clothes they were buried with/died in. the protagonist died in the woods or something, and was never buried, so he was naked all the time. idk, might be a decent world building idea if there is some good plot.

My dad passed away last year and was cremated. At his funeral, being his eldest child, I read a text composed by all the close family in front of the church. It went well, I was able to not chocke on my tears... Until the last part. I began to sob while laughing and reading the last part.
"Our dad always told us "When I die, put me in a trash bag, throw me in the bin and wheel it to the curb". We're sorry dad, but we couldn't do that"
I cried like crazy for the rest of the ceremony, but it felt great in the end.
Our only real regret is that the funeral home refused to cremate him with a bunny plushie I made him

45:01 Just Incase anyone needs to hear this, you can tell them “no actually I’ll be switching funeral homes” and call up another one to take the body from them, it’s not a once and done type thing if they want to be assholes you don’t have to let them have the privilege of caring for your deceased loved ones. Also I’m some states in the U.S you can get legally cleared to do all of the body and burial prep at home like in the old days, bathe and dress the body and hold a viewing all on your own and just have the funeral home transport the body to the cemetery for burial. But I’m no expert on how to properly go through the motions to do this. Just wanted to let anyone who might need to hear it know that you NEVER have to just accept that kind of disrespect when dealing with the loss of a loved one and their final wishes.

We buried my dad in one of his work suits and they shaved his face but accidentally nicked him over the lip. I found it so fitting and it brought me and his other daughters some comfort when I pointed it out because he would ALWAYS, without fail, accidentally cut his face at least in one place whenever he shaved. I always remember him wearing a small bandaid or piece of cotton on his face the first day of his shave. We'll hold his 40 day memorial service this Sunday🖤

The first one reminds me of when my dad passed. He wasn't buried but cremated. He had on a t-shirt and jeans, very him but during the viewing my mom put in a corn cob because he'd been working on a huge garden for a few years and the corn that year right before he passed was about 15 ft tall, soooo much taller than any other corn I'd seen at that time of the year, I'm not sure what he did but he was so proud (he did grow up with farmers in his family so he knew things but still it was impressive). My mom also put in a pair of her panties in his pocket and a few other small things. The day after the viewing is when he was cremated she said, omg I didn't think of this but when they were cremated him the corn probably started popping, lol. I'm sure he would have laughed at that too.

My uncle passed unexpectedly from heart problems, and he was only in his 40s. At any past family funerals, he always complained about "this damn monkey suit" and joked that he would haunt us if we buried him in one. He was also a biker and loved Harley. So when the time unfortunately came, several decades earlier than expected, we buried him in his favorite biker gear, and the whole family wore Harley shirts to the funeral, and we paid extra for a hearse pulled by some Harley bikes. His best friend and his wife rode his bike to the cemetery, and in total there were probably 30+ bikes at the funeral. It definitely helped bring comfort to our family that this would definitely be his preferred vibe rather than a somber black-tie event.

this video is very heart warming to hear. 3 out of my grandparents have passed with my grandma passing last month. they didn’t have anything weird on in the casket but had stuff that was so them. my paternal grandmother had alzheimer’s and for as long as they could they would paint her nails and perm her hair until she got to the point where she couldn’t do that anymore. when she was in her casket she finally had her nails and hair done for the first time in a while. she was able to go out as herself after loosing herself to the disease. my paternal grandfather was a farmer and even when he was in the nursing home he would only wear flannel and jeans so they buried him in that outfit. the bouquet on his casket had pheasant feathers and what looked like grains in it. my maternal grandmother who just passed away loved the color orange. to the point that in my house (that was originally hers that she had built with my grandfather) there is this ugly ass wall in our living room that is textured and a very bright orange color. she was buried in this bright orange shirt with a unique pattern as that was what many of her shirts were like. she also had her sweater on that she brought everywhere because she was always cold. on the sweater was this cute be merry pin that she won at bingo around christmas time. she never took it off her sweater so it was buried with her. my relatives and i all wore homemade orange flower pins in honor of her. i have a pheasant feather from my paternal fathers funeral and the flower from my maternal grandmother’s funeral, they sit together on display in my bedroom. i love and miss all of them but i’m so happy they were able to be their truest self until their burial

As someone studying archaeology I want to comment on story 4. While there may be some story conceived by archaeologists on what each item means I can guarantee that they would know he was loved and respected. Grave goods are indicative of someone with immense importance to a culture. If someone has out something in your grave it means that there was someone there to think about what you would have wanted in your grave and to care about where you are going in the afterlife. The children’s toy would certainly break my heart. It would be obvious that he was young enough to have had a young child, and it would likely be assumed that the child gave him the toy to take with him. Depending on whether they had any knowledge of poker chips and blackberries there could be different assumptions there. But children’s toys are pretty obviously children’s toys for the most part.

My uncle worked for a burial service and there was one time that the family stayed until the casket was completely covered with dirt. They, my uncle and one other guy, had trouble getting the top over the casket and they had to jump on it to get it into place with the top of the line being concrete and heavy. It worked and the family eventually went home. Still. Weird. I knew someone who had red and green color blindness and he had to pay attention to traffic lights too see which was where to see the red and green traffic signals. My sister wore this skimpy little dress that barely went to her thighs and was strapless and a little black hat to my grandpa funeral

They had Uncle Mike's elf outfit on a dressmaker's dummy at the wake. And his Knights of Columbus uniform was on him.

we buried my grandmother with bounty paper towels. she had dementia and couldn’t see well, but she always knew when it was bounty and would ONLY use bounty (bonus points for the fact my ma went to the nearest store for em and found the best deal on bounty towels)

My Papa was upset that his brother was buried in Mormon garb. He felt he should be buried in uniform given how long he served.
Mormon’s put a little white napkin on the head of the deceased.

My Mom had a closed casket. I had her buried in jogging clothes. She stayed cold so that’s what she wore. It was pink and gray. Also I told them to make sure she has her teeth in. No one saw her without them.
Dad was buried in overalls and a t-shirt. Was what he wore everyday.
I think it’s best to put them In what they liked. 💜
I hope to be buried in a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. That’s what I wear everyday.

The guy who had money on his body gave me an idea. So I’m disabled, socially anxious, and introverted. I don’t get out a lot and when I do I’m not good at talking to people. I’ve had the sad thought my funeral is going to be pathetic with very few mourners. I have money and no one to inherit (if my sister who is 13 years older than me dies before me), so what if I offer money to people who come to my funeral? Heh heh.

I've got my outfit for burial chosen. A black velvet top with lace sleeves and a bright pink skirt with a black mesh overlay. I wore it for a crazy occasion at the turn of the millennium. The boots I wore for that occasion though are not going with me. Oh those will be on top of the casket because I'm leaving all my boots to various family members. But boots must be present at the funeral as I am well known for them. My musical choices might raise a few eyebrows but I know my cousins will be choking back laughter. Why? Because I'm a big Oingo Boingo fan and one of my absolute favorite songs from them is "No One Lives Forever". I'm also kind of opting for "Who Wants to Live Forever?" by Queen as well. If not at the funeral, at least they can throw me a big party and play all my favorite songs. LOL!
And there must be a bottle of Jack Daniel's. I developed an allergy to certain alcohols and haven't been able to have a drink of it since my late 30s. And a can of Pepsi. :)

My Mamaw told my dad and my older siblings that she wanted her ashes put in an old Folgers can. That's exactly where they put them. Wish I could have really gotten to know her, I was about six or seven when she died. But it's stuff like that which really makes me wish I could have.

Don't know the WHOLE STORY, obviously. But the one with "you have 1 hour, or else!" Something tells me, OP slacked off til the last minute. They said "why? The funeral isn't til tomorrow" what?????!!!! All that stuff takes DAYS! And, yes, they need time to prepare the body. What was their plan. "Hey mom. Today is your funeral. Quick! Throw this on" 😮😮

My dad was buried with a pipe, pocket change, and a deck of Harley Davidson themed cards (the joke was he traded the Harley for the redhead, my mom)… and in a suit.
I also wore his helmet on the drive to the cemetery.
