    One thing you didn't notice, is that the autopilot once below 200 feet it will disengage and go to yellow standby mode which means you have to do the flare and final touchdown that's why you landed too hard, also you need to learn to land without the parachute because in combat you will need the countermeasures box which replaces the parachute.

    • @blackout2331
      @blackout2331 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for clearing that up. I never used the autopilot before (mostly because i didnt know you could) but the mirage is pretty easy due to its small airframe to get it slowed down

    • @Shadowsc133
      @Shadowsc133 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AGENT47ist Actually due to a bug you can keep the parachute and increase the flare count. At least one bug that helps. But you are right, I tend to not use the parachute even if installed as a good habit.

    • @AGENT47ist
      @AGENT47ist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Shadowsc133 yeah I noticed that, but still you need the chaff and flare in combat. As for the landing, due to the delta wing and landing at significant higher speed that other planes, learning to aerobrake, keeping the nose up 10 degrees and land at 14 AoA. Below 100 knots, then you can begin bringing the nose down gently and safely use manual braking.

    • @AGENT47ist
      @AGENT47ist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wonder Meat getting used to is the key the rest come by themselves. Also in the mirage you need to learn not to fight the FBW system, the flight computer makes the nessesary corrections without needing stick input. The key is learning the aerodynamics of the delta airframe as it is a different philosophy that the rest jets of DCS.

      @Shadowsc133 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AGENT47ist In 2.5.2 I can keep all chaff and 48 flares with the parachute in loadout menu, however it displays 32 flare once in game. I find the countermeasures system very awkward to and tend to use the single chaff+flare dispenser, as I couldnt find a flare only one.

    Hey Cap, to prevent the red caution light and alarm from going off when you land, press the "autopilot standby mode" button before your nose gear touches down. This will reset your trim. The button can be mapped from the HOTAS subsection in controls.

    I sense when you increase the alpha the brackets go up, when you achieve an alignment of brackets, chevrons and aim pointer you are in the perfect attitude thrust situation for landing at the current wheight. Nice video CAP.

  • @angrymancunian
    @angrymancunian 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Generally you would use the autopilot down to minimums and disengage at that point once runway is in sight to start the flare manually.

    Game changer for the Reapers. No more landing LOLZ. Though CAP did try to do the conventional Reaper landing even in auto pilot mode with the roller coaster approach. LOL

  • @mhe0815
    @mhe0815 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Cap, what might help you as a rule of thumb is that for every 1000ft of altitude you want to get rid of, leave yourself 3nm of distance if you want to do a 3° approach. Vertical speed (in fpm) is going to be your ground speed times 5. Also, true autoland is something different than you are presenting here, but that's a topic for another day.

    Someone told me when you go into app mode the hud moves down so you can raise you seat to see better when landing. So you’d still position the heading tape at the top but with seat raised
    Off topic. In one video you mentioned Bruntingthorpe. I’ve just started volunteering on the buccaneers there. Would be great to see them in dcs!

      but would they try to all land on the same bit of runway, having said that if they all came in at 100@intervals they would all di the same thing at the same time, but 100' apart. mmmmm interesting, no doubt CAP and Sherman would try it (HINT HINT )

  • @Onoelo23gf

    Wasting time, chasing the centre line. Put the damn AP on and load the ILS onto the AP using the ILS control panel left top. Hands off-time now. Get onto LOC comfortably and soon you will commence descent. Maintain 13* AOA till 100-150' above ground and then get to 14*AOA. Why are you not checking the u/c beep? Raise that damned seat fully... you are projecting unwanted data and displays and bad flying technique. Use the AP. Disengage the glideslope at 300' but retain Loc. Just leave it to the AP to fly you down to the point you had aimed at earlier. When you reach 20' on Radalt, smoothly throttle back. At 10' on the Radalt, lift the ISV onto the the further dumbbell. That's how I landed 2700+ times.

      Grim Reapers Well, the manual says on page 70 next to a big red warning sign „Before landing, the AP must be disconnected not lower than 200 ft AGL. The AP does not include any auto-land feature
      and the landing must be manually performed by the pilot.“
      So what you did was not an autoland but controlled flight into terrain. ;)

    I'm such a noob... but the only way for me to get the virtual runway to work is to make a waypoint as a landing waypoint in the mission editor before a flight. Or is there something else I'm missing? I am using the exact same airfield and approach. 111,50 and X67 with APP mode. No virtual runway but the auto pilot landing is working.

    • @AGENT47ist
      @AGENT47ist 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Withstand It will guide you at before the threshold and at about 200 feet the autopilot will disengage and go to standby mode so the final approach is made by hand. Usually I already have set my autopilot on standby before take off and after it hits the required altitude the autopilot takes over and flies the plane unless I have to take over.

    • @michaelwithstand
      @michaelwithstand 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even if you switchon the landing mode?

    • @AGENT47ist
      @AGENT47ist 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is the landing mode,it's just the Mirage's autopilot cannot perform an autoland,it is programmed to do the apporach for you,but once near threshold and below 200 feet,it will automaticlly disengage and go to standby mode,and you have to do the flare and finally touch down. Quite usefull during night,fog and shity weather conditions
