Detroit was basically built in a forest and we only cut down some of the trees, Detroit is known as "the city of trees" with the most trees per capita of any industrial city in the world. 25% of the city is covered by trees but it used to be 40% in the 50s. Each yard usually has like 3-5 trees and there are several small forests that cut into the city for miles.

Upstate NY is anything north of Rockland and Westchester County. And because so many people live on Long Island and NYC and the counties named earlier, they dominate the state government leading to a divide between upstate and downstate.
In a more practiced but less practical sense, Upstate is anywhere north of where someone lives.
If you live in that 'Not Upstate' area shown the opinion changes the farther from the city you get.

Never realized the far eastern obsession with Hawaii islands goes back to times when the islands were named, what with the island closest to east of the old world says: Ni hao.
Take this from someone who lives on NYS's tail, AKA Long Island at 6:18, yeah, there's a LOTTA people here. I dare even say it's overcrowded here cause even the farming areas here are rather compact.
You wanna see compact come visit the UK haha. Considering we have 68 million-ish people crammed in to a space a bit smaller than your state of Oregon which apparently has a population of just over 4 million lol.
Or put a different way, apparently Long Island has almost 8 million people in a space of 3,600 KM², London has a population of almost exactly 9 million people in an area of 1,500 KM².
If Maine's coastline was impressive, look at a map of the world and find Norway. We got the second longest coastline in the world.
