    Now that you have had this for 3 years, is there anything you would do differently, or additional? I like the setup and am having Nuthouse quote the same config for my 2023 Mojave.

    • @mikeoverlanding
      @mikeoverlanding  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. I still love it and still get people coming up to me to talk about the Jeep. The Nuthouse bed rack is strong and a good choice. I also like the metal tonneau cover to keep my stuff locked up. I have no regrets with the options and equipment. It has been a reliable ride. One downside that comes to mind is the auto start feature while it doesn’t bother me, I know it bothers others. And with only 50K miles and 3-years my batteries died this summer. The garage that I went to to find out why my Jeep wouldn’t start told me that they are seeing lots of vehicles that have the auto start feature needing new batteries in 3 years when they usually last 4+ years. So something is wrong with this system. I also don’t like it that when the engine shuts off at a traffic light, it won’t stay off for the entire duration of the light. Seems like the auxiliary battery should be better. Very stylish fender design but you should get mud flaps for when on the road or places that kick up rocks or during snow storms as the doors and sides get blasted and chipped. Otherwise, very happy with my options.

    What is the brand of rack is that???

    • @mikeoverlanding
      @mikeoverlanding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a custom build from an outfit in Ohio called Nuthouse Industries. They have a good website last I looked. Great to work with. I love the rack, it does everything I could ever imagine. Highly recommended. Especially since they will build it to suit your needs. Downside is that its a bit speedy. Best to you!

    Mike - wanted to follow up to see what you still think of the cover and rack not that you have had it for a while. It’s expensive but i think i might do a similar build. Just curious if you would do again what if anything you would do different

    • @mikeoverlanding

      I love it! Again, I paid full price and get nothing for referrals. It is solid, looks great and is so practical! If I could justify putting more money toward it, I would have lights connected and they have a way to slide a table under the top of the rack. I didn’t like the light setup they offered at the time but the wiring would have been useful. I can still do the wiring myself and continue to look for lights. The lights I want are the type that I would use at camp and I would want yellow or red. I would not want white light as it attracts insects and can be seen over a longer distance and I would rather blend in to nature as much as possible. I think Yellow or red in the rear near the top of the rack would cut through dust and fog and make me more noticeable on the trail for those dune buggies and dirt bikes that go racing around. Go for it!

    • @mikeoverlanding
      @mikeoverlanding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And the tonneau cover has worked wonderfully. My stuff is locked and secure, I can even lay on it. Dust does get in but its minimal and I don’t know of any cover that is 100% dust free. Rain really doesn’t get in. I do get water in when going through a car wash but its minimal and most of my gear is all in bins and what isn’t can get wet. But really minimum water not even worth mentioning.

    Gladiator rack is nice but...Id like to see a rack that the mopar tonneau cover will work with, also can't load dirt bikes in the back because rear bars are in the way, Leitner makes a rack but cross bars stick to far into box so no room to drive dirt bikes in...

    • @stevehinkley9099
      @stevehinkley9099 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually get the rack made so the cross bars are removable, giving you a wide open top. From their site: Removable Crossbars allow full access and versatility to the bed of your truck. It also allows the rack to be packed smaller to cut down on shipping charges. Extra removable crossbars can be made to hold/mount many additional items. You can have different bars for different mounting solutions that can be changed out in minutes.

      Fletcher Brown, thanks for the comment. Making sure that I could fit my ARB 35 quart refrigerator was one of my primary requirements for the coiling cover. My fridge fits in nicely. You can see it if you look at my videos when I was in Wyoming (I have two of them (prairie dog hunting and rattle snakes in camp). I will be posting a video that shows everything in more detail in the future. Best to you!

    The gladiator I’m looking at has trail rails without a bedliner, I’m guessing the rails would have to be removed to put the spray on liner on? How hard would they be to put back on since you said they’re permanently attached even after taking off the screws?

    • @mikeoverlanding
      @mikeoverlanding  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it would be really easy. What was holding them on after I removed the bolts was some plastic screw type things with ridges and I think some double sided tape. There is no damage whatsoever to the trail rails from removal (or at all for that matter). So you should be good. A spray on bed liner is well worth it in my opinion. Best to you!

    Thanks. Could you still fit bikes in the box after this?

    • @mikeoverlanding
      @mikeoverlanding  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting question. Short answer is yes. I measured the height of the inside of the box and its about 40 inches. I put my wife’s bike in it and it did work but I had to remove the front tire so that the handle bars would clear. Many roof bike carriers I have seen remove the front tire too. We carry our bikes on a separate bike carrier that attaches to the trailer hitch. We can carry 4 bikes on it. Best to you!

      Chuck Cribbs, I don’t know and the folks at Nuthouse Industries would never give me a definitive answer other than to say it was built to military specs and can hold a great deal of weight - to paraphrase. I believe the rack is super strong and can hold a tremendous amount of weight. Very happy with its quality and strength. My guess is that you should be good to go.

I know the folks at Nuthouse Industries have mentioned that they have had it custom made for the Gladiator in conjunction with their rack. • @mikeoverlanding

      Not a drop has leaked inside the cabin. There are 4 drain hoses in each corner of the truck bed and I have not drilled any holes in the bed to funnel the water (still looking for another solution). In a car wash I get some water but not as much as one would think. Haven’t had a lot of rain to really test that aspect. Plus, now I have a roof top tent and that keeps a lot of the rain off. Check out my video about prairie dog hunting in WY and you can see some good pictures of the set-up.

      I took mine through some of the toughest trails in SW Colorado, the rack was incredibly solid, and I had a fully weighted rack with two full storage boxes and a 200-pound RTT on top (iKamper Skycamp 2.0). The rack never rattled or moved. It's designed to fit like a glove, the tolerances are incredibly minimal. Put another way: the rack will definitely outlive the Jeep it's mounted to. :-)
