First battle aftermath: “time to bury the fallen”. “Frank was the best of us, not literally of course having been our only casualty against rat slaves, but spiritually, he will be missed”.
AP not bad they have 18, compared to halbs which have 20. And they have high attack and massive WS on top so will hit that 18 and still alot of normal damage. In campaign you just slap that common banner which gives them +8AP and they destroy everything
They have a lot of AP. Halberds in W3 are genuinly trash. Many sword units have more AP than them. Also they have bonus vs infantry. Wich also adds armor piercing damage and melee attack.
Their model count is way too high. They're supposedly some of the most skilled swordsmen in the world, yet they get beaten by a smaller number of burly Russians? They should be like Doomseekers, 32 of them but they have wide attacks so they're still good against chaff.
What do you mean? They are tier 4, best melee infantry the High Elves can recruit. With support from Lore of Life magic, they can easily crush most enemies.
All those rats brought down a single swordmaster. Well. And all the Chosen are higher tier than them, I believe, so... makes some sense, alas. Waywatchers will easily win against them despite the small missile block chance they have. Surprising result vs Army, though not too surprising. Now that Grave Guard Halberds have lost Expert Charge Def, they may need a redo. As well as the Swordmasters did, I feel this also shows why I prefer to use different combinations of troops for the bulk of my force. Silvernin Guard as the core, Swordmasters can be counterattacking shock troops, not front liners.
@@Canuovea swordmasters are much better against armor piercing missiles then any other shock infantry, because they have basically the same chance to block as most shielded units. For example Empire doesn't have anyone with silver shields. And even bronze shield considerably lowers dps against units. Also units like swordmasters are actually somewhat better as frontline, since job of a frontline is to fight enemies frontline. For most factions this would be infantry and spears and halberds are loosing against infantry in general. They are doing it quite slowly, but loosing nonetheless. You can get a frontline of silverin guard and deal damage to enemy with something else, or you can get frontline of swordmasters and win frontline fights every time so you can focus on other parts of enemy army, so it's depends on what you want from your frontline
@@williammclyr3330 Swordmasters are not good against AP missiles, they're better than other shock troops, which is nice, but... they ultimately take a lot of damage still. And they're expensive. Silvernin Guard allow for a continuation of an early game playstyle found with spears but better because Expert Charge Defence. They're also cheaper, which is nice. But they are viable as a powerful frontline, of course. Just not my preference most of the time. I like the idea of judicial use of them, contributing them to a fight where they're most needed.
So despite the fact that they lost to Tzar Guard in a duel, in more diverse fights Swordmasters are actually better, and they are better unit overall. That's why duel test are fun but often does not show units true potential, thank you for doing both.
They serve the same purpose as Empire Greatswords, not meant to hold a front line, more so to throw into the backs of units who are already engaged, preferably with Pheonix Guard. That being said, they are much better units overall than the Empire Greatswords, which results in them being more versatile.
@@Iowa97 sword/axe type units are actually better as frontline since they are trading much better with infantry than spears/halberds. They would hold for quite long, but actual damaging frontline just outright wins against enemy infantry and allows you to focus on the other parts of enemy army. In pvp land battles both white lions and swordmasters are considered good (though white lions are little bit more cost effective). In campaign AI cheats could make them worse, but with no cheats, or small cheats they are completely fine and even max cheats are nowhere as bad as they were

Well put :D Thanks for the comment.
Swordmasters are great to clear out city garrisons which often require 1 on 1 duels against masses of weaker troops
Thanks for the comment. Yea, that sounds like a good use of them :)
Impressive performance from the chosen of khorne despite lacking AP against the sword masters
Thanks for the comment. Agreed on that :)

@@szymonrozanski6938 I actually like them. Correct, they might not be meta, but idk I just find uses for them in Campaign (IE Phoenix Guard, ect...).

They are better than I expected, only weak point is hp/model but as long they get into melee they wil pay for themselves.

I would love to see a new update in the anti infantry department. It seems last years rankings is not the same as this year
Thanks for the comment. Yea, that is likely. :)

Thanks for the comment. Yea, agreed that combined arms usually work the best and imo it is nicer to play than just doomstacks :)
@@QualityGames-ql1jc Yeah, doomstacks tend to be rather boring most of the time. Sure, it's efficient, but c'mon...
Waywatchers are specifically designed for harass and skirmish with units like Swordmasters.

lorewise they need a buff.

Krimson killaz test? Wonder how they do vs chosen and swordmasters.
They were the best infantry blender in wh2
They got nerfed very heavily
