    Why even completely disabling everything, then rewind and replace most of it? Whynot using new seperate parts and building from scratch instead?

    • @magneticairlab
      @magneticairlab  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the question, the fact is that the customer asked me to do this. Of course, building a pickup from scratch would be much more spectacular, and my next video will be just that.

    • @TomTheWise_
      @TomTheWise_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@magneticairlab Ok that is understandable.
      Can you explain or maybe even show how much the grounded copper tape at the bottom changes the sound? I guess the effect is similar to the Telecaster ground plate is it?

    • @magneticairlab
      @magneticairlab  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TomTheWise_ Specifically, in this case, copper foil is more of an aesthetic nature, of course, it has some slight effect on the background, but I don’t think that this effect can be heard. As for the bridge pickup plate of the Telecaster, the plate only has an effect if it is traditionally made of steel (usually plated with copper), in which case it not only shields, but also scatters the magnetic field, which directly affects the tone.

    I loved everything about this video, except the pickguard 😂 but what a great video

      Thanks for viewing and feedback 👋😌
      This pickguard has no aesthetic meaning, and neither does the guitar😊
      This is a test tool for listening to pickups and other technical tasks.

    don't know if maybe the wire had an issue, but would it have been easier and same outcome to change the slugs out to change the sound?

    • @magneticairlab
      @magneticairlab  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and asking. If you change only the magnets, the sound timbre will not change much, only sensitivity is possible. It is the shape of the coil frame, the winding algorithm, the number of turns, and the diameter of the wire that largely affect the sound color.

    Nice Video. But 2 options remain: 1. Replace the ceramic bar with an alnico bar. 2. Buy another set. You can get a set of Wilkinson Alnico 5 for $40.

    Привет, магнитам уделите внимание ,от них в большей степени зависит звук ,в этом кроется большой секрет ,лично сам проверял один и тот же звукосниматель но по разному его намагничивал и звук всегда был разным ,в последний раз намагнитил супер большим магнитом и остановился на этом !

    Thank you very much for this vid : I finally found the sound I'm looking for : my ideal tone would be between 0:07 / 3:30
    ...anyone would have some info about this pick up/guitar ?

    I'm guessing you need a winding machine to do it right? Would it be silly to wind it up by hand?

    This is a great mod for making cheap pups sound like quality ones… my question would be however, rather spend the time and effort fooling with disassembly and prep work on the original bobbins, why not just buy new fiberboard flatwork and start clean from scratch? I get that it’s neat to say they once were cheap Squier pups, but really the only original piece is the plastic bobbin after all the wire and magnets have been replaced.
    Personally I’d rather spend the $6 per pickup for new flatwork than fool with cutting out the old wire, popping out the old pole pieces, and cleaning and preparing the stock bobbin. Great video though 👍🏽

    • @magneticairlab
      @magneticairlab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching the video and kind feedback! I absolutely agree with you, I usually make pickups from scratch. But it was a non-standard order, at the request of the client I used native bobbins.

      If all ya have is an old set of pickups, at least ya can see how to strip em down.

  • @beatsinabar

    Impressive - but if all you're keeing from the original pup is the flatwork, wouldn't it make more sense to start from scratch with new flatwork (the cheapest part afaik) and leave the oroiginal pups intact (to sell on for isntance)!

    Is this original pickup construction the same as what you would see in a new Squier Affinity or Bullet? Or is the base plate also the magnet now in these new Squiers? Thanks for posting this video btw.☺☺☺

    • @magneticairlab
      @magneticairlab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These were Squier Bullet pickups as usual with ceramic magnets. I left only the coil frame and pickup covers, dismantled the rest. Alnico 5 magnetic bars instead of steel bars and ceramic magnet. Also, the wire was replaced with a thicker one, and the winding pattern is different. Thanks for commenting and watching, have a nice day! 👋

  • @WelderRiffer

    Excellent work, I would entrust my pickups to such a master ! 👍
    p.s. Can you explain what is going on 12:33 ?

    • @magneticairlab
      @magneticairlab  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for watching and kind comment! 😌12:33 - this is how the magnetic field is renewed and strengthened. This magnetization is done using two neodymium magnets attached to the vise. By the way, also using this method, you can change the polarity of the pickup magnets.
