  • First ride impressions of a Kuberg Freerider XTC14: INSANE!!!!
    Incredibly lightweight (80 lbs)
    Big Power (14kW/18.6 hp)
    Super Quick Handling (20" wheels)
    Stealth (quiet electric powertrain)
    The Kuberg Freerider's combination of big power and ultra lightweight, combined with very thin layout creates a totally different off road riding experience. The Freerider is like an all new segment of small dirt bikes: like a cross between a mountain bike and dirt bike.
    The Kuberg is quick - much quicker than my Sur Ron X - with strong acceleration between the turns on the trail. Have to keep forward on the Freeride to keep the front end on the ground.
    The handling is quick with the front end feeling too responsive especially with faster speeds. This is my first ride so will be adjusting front and rear suspension clickers and air fork pressure and may try some wider handlebars. I simply do not feel comfortable yet but only have about 30 minutes rider time so far.
    The chassis and wheels look small and fragile yet feel much more sturdy with less flex compared to my Sur Ron X. Brakes worked fine on these flat trails.
    The ergo's are super thin so you cannot really grip the bike like a motorcycle. The footpegs are very close together (about 7" apart ) and the handlebars are narrow. Just a very different feel.
    Looking forward to more rides on the Kuberg soon!

    Great review of the Kuberg Freerider, definitely seems like a great Surron competitor.

    The controller finally broke on my 2015 freerider, replaced it with the 14kw now it goes like a rocket, these bikes are worth every penny!

      Hard to explain to people just how quick the Kuberg with 14kW of power is unless you take one for a test ride...really fun!

    Sur Ron Killer!! I love my Freerider Too! Ride it ANYWHERE! Looking forward to more Freerider video's. Just so you know it there are no other tires that fit those 15" rims. Re-lace spokes hubs with different motorcycle rims to use motorcycle tires. I run used 19" Sur Ron wheel 90/100/19 on front and re-laced 16" rim rear to run 90/100/16 tires. Speed and Traction

      @@tylerwilson4651 Tyler I hope you have good support with any of these small electric motorcycles - especially the Kuberg! The Sur Ron X or these Kuberg models are very fun to ride. I have a couple of friends that own Sur Ron X models and they have been fairly reliable. My buddy that owns this Kuberg has had a few issues with it. Depending on riding conditions the Kuberg battery seems to last about an hour to 1.5 hours. Have fun!

    Wow, huge power in a little package. Can't wait to see more. I'm living vicariously through your electrics, man. :) What made you go with the 20" wheels over the 24"?

    Sounds like you'd take this over the Sur-ron? given that the Sur-ron X and this are relatively close in price I will definitely look into this too. The KTM is simply way over budget for me. Would be nice to review the standard 8kw of this bike; turns out you can get 8, 12, or 14kw. The 8kw is the one close in price to the Surron. Which may change your opinion? Would be interesting to see the differences, if any, in the bikes with different motors.
    Thank you!

    • @mxengineer1

      The 14kW Kuberg is a unique combination of ultra lightweight (24 lbs less than a Sur Ron X) and power (about 18hp...so 3 times Sur Ron X) which make the Freerider very exciting to ride. Get the bigger wheels if you have the option and my guess is 12kW would be plenty fast for tight woods riding based on my experience with the 14kW model.

      I did not remove the battery while I had this Kuberg. However it should come out relatively easily though with the removal of a few bolts. The Sur Ron has a very easy to remove battery (no tools required).

    This or the KTM?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The KTM Freeride E-XC is more like a conventional motorcycle with an electric powertrain. The Kuberg Freerider is such a different experience: there is simply no other combination of ultra lightweight with that amount of power in a small dirt bike...it simply feels so quick and responsive. The Freerider is creating a new segment of off road dirt bikes.
      Having said that KTM Freeride has the backing of an established OEM. Kuberg: not so much so that means you have to be an early adopter. I spent my own money on the KTM Freeride...I am borrowing the Kuberg:)

    • @mxengineer1

      @Blake Draguesku I am 6' 2" tall and 190 lbs. The stock handlebars are narrow and the footpegs are very close together so that feels different than the normal full size off road bikes I normally ride (I would not say cramped - just takes some getting used to)

  • @abdullah2696

    How many miles can it goes by 1 charge (in reality)?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not test with GPS and there is no speedometer on the bike. I can say the battery lasts about 1 hour in full power mode riding trails...more if ridden in lower power modes and easier trails.

      Yes that is without the battery (I did not read the asterisk on the spec for weight!). However even with he battery (about 100lbs) it feels crazy lightweight considering the power it produces.

      Performance per dollar hard to beat a motorcycle. Electric powered dirt bikes are a different experience (stealth, instant torque, ease of operation). I am sure with battery and motor technology gains along with major motorcycle OEM's getting involved the prices of electric motorcycles will come down.

  • @ianhill20101

    Had one melted the motor sold it, nice bike full of flaws the charger broke, the charge connector melted and the motors magnets fell to bits.
    It drove well nice and light but i killed it and wernt even trying im barely 10stone

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Major motorcycle OEM's (like Honda, Yamaha, KTM for example) have basic design requirements for quality, strength, durability that have been developed over years of building and selling products. You can trust their products have been well developed and thoroughly tested before sale. These smaller and younger companies may not have the long term experience on overall design. I love the minimalist design of the Kuberg. When I removed the covers and saw the unorganized wiring and some non-waterproof couplers, found loose fasteners (upper shock bolt would not stay tight), it did not give me a lot of confidence in long term durability and quality. But when I turned that throttle and launched forward on the spider looking machine it sure did put a smile on my face!

    #KUBERG #ebikes. I HOPE YOU HAVE BETTER LUCK THEN MY 2 FREERIDERS. 4yrs old and now in service again (3rd time) after spending over $10,000 on them they send me a over $6000 because all the inners have to be replaced to new (working) products. They have had them now for 3months and after countless emails they send me this rediculous quote. Completely zero care for hard working people and they addmitted to putting out product too soon. In writting. We will see how that turns out for them.

      Sorry to hear about the poor reliability of your Kuberg products. The bike in this video belongs to a friend of mine and he does not ride it very much. He has had shock bolts come loose and a few random motor won't turn back on after riding it (maybe over heats?). Hope you can resolve the issues with your Kuberg
