I'm so impressed that you went across the river for that fish. So much respect for that.
Just wanted to say to Jordan that I am more than impressed with his knowledge of the genetics of the Chinook stock. Growing up fishing the once mighty Klamath (that will recover from the dams), it absolutely blows my mind to see the fish I grew up catching thriving to massive slabs on an equally beautiful set of rivers. Once I saw the first fish's spots, it was undeniable. This is what the Klamath, Trinity, Scott, Shasta, Sacramento, Eel and other historic fish runs should look like, instead of barely two runs of fish annually. Thank you Jordan and friends for this. It is clear the Chilean people actually appreciate the salmon for what it is and you summarized it so perfectly. On a less serious but still serious note: I absolutely would have also borrowed dude's underwear and swam after that fish as well. I felt everything you felt in that moment, having lost several fish in the same manner and never really getting to see them. It' s that glimpse that keeps the fire burning.
Absolutely KINGS of our hearts and dreams. They still do exist! The fish that dreams are made of. Way to go Chile.
Being from Oregon it's really weird seeing a salmon without a seal mark on it.... Awesome video!!! We need to send them some elk too!!!
Hoping the PNW can resume fish like this within years to come and my kids may be able to catch fish like this again not far from home, what a great production, great words, great sport, 10/10 all around. You can tell Chile truly respects the fish and knows that commercial fishing can truly hurt and kill a species. Keep up the great work guys!
Now to complete the trilogy you need to visit Argentina for the world's only Atlantic run steelhead and sea run giant German brown trout.

what a place - the people are awesome, and the land is absolutely beautiful! the language barrier for me was the only negative because I wanted so much to communicate with the folks...but they tried hard to work with me. traveling around the country is easy and safe - the Chilean Patagonia is spectacular. this is a great video and bought back some great memories. Good job!

Well the commercial fishery depends on the river, per example at the Toltén River its allow but with certain limits (not enough and the fishery for kings it's slowly dying)
Here (chile) we have runs in a lot of rivers, the most north one its on the Bio Bio River and the Southest one its in Tierra del Fuego.
The better size fish runs are from Río Serrano river near torres del paine.

When I was young, 60 years ago, we would catch some like this in coastal streams like the Hoh or Chehalis in WA. State. Thanks for this video which has brought back some wonderful memories.

I am glad you touched on the need to stress conservation in the US. Government officials and sportsman could use Chile as a case study to understand why the runs are collapsing in the US. Maybe even take back some brood stock to improve genetics to get back to those monster fish.

Probably the best addicted video IMO.
Guys at the fishing lodges they use the same fishing techniques that you use (mostly in the Petrohué river region)
I fish for fresh chinook with my 9wt single hand fly rod or with flasher, parabans and other techniques on my boat
(here in Chile) we have professional fishermens and guides that use the same techniques that you use in the US, the only thing that its not allow is the use of any organic bait or organic derivated, we can only use artificial baits with a limmit amount of hooks

Spent 3 months in patagonia with Raleigh international. Beautiful country and people. Such a wonderful time there and when i arrived back in the uk. Well lets just say i kinda cried.

Great video boys. I was in Chile (my birth nation) at our cabin a few years ago tossing 1 oz Kastmasters into the logs looking for browns. A Chinhook took it and crushed me and my m/h avid rod. Went back the next year with a guide select pro and a shimano Cardiff and got a 30 pound chromer on 12/2 tossing a Tobey spoon (2 oz). Since then I’m hooked and going back in February and taking the techniques you taught me. There is a book on Amazon that was published recently from an old manuscript (1930’s) that talks about failed salmon introductions to Chile. It’s “Trout Fishing in Chilean Rivers” by Alexander McDonald. Wonder what the author would say now.

Those fish really are just absolute tanks. Me and a buddy just recently got back from fishing for kings in Michigan and it took 8 of our 10 kings to fill up the addicted kill bag we were using to the point where it wouldn't even close. I bet with tgat same bag we could hold 2 or maybe 3 of those monsters in Chile.
