A couple of tips from a retired commercial Fisherman: Tip one: When hand lining tuna it's important to pinch the line between your thumb and the side of your hand. As you pull towards your chest the line will lay across the back of your hand. This is important because when a shark hits your tuna ( not If! ) you can release the line and not loose your fingers or arm! You also want to make sure that when you're hand lining tuna that you grab the hook or luer before attempting to land the fish. This prevents the fish from shaking the hook and giving you a not so cool nose or eye piercing! I've seen guys get their arm filleted because they had the line wrapped around it when the shark hit! Tip 2: Hand lines work well when you use a thick braid like " Oregon Green 280" then followed by your 180lb mono. Your leader should be 6 - 8 feet I enjoy your channel and I really don't want anyone to get seriously injured tuna fishing. Have fun be safe and keep your eye on the weather. Sincerely Christine
We always use a stretch rubber tied to that rope too. Easier to get a hold of. We ran a 100lb leader with a 10 pound cannon ball. That way if not hit. They wouldn't get in the way of the chum when they hit the rigs.
Wow, that's crazy! We had a blue shark on out coho fishing. And once on the reels we pulled up half a tuna. So, not sure what it feels like with a shark hitting a hand line while bringing it in. Don't want to either!
Jordan needs to publish a cookbook titled "My absolute favorite recipe!". Every recipe is his favorite. I don't know if I enjoy watching him row a raft or watching him cook more.
Btw, ended the day chasin Big eye. Saw a giant Marlin jump and life disappeared with a 70ish mile run. Ended the day with 39 peanuts to 22lbs. Following weekend brought my boy. Did the same thing. Never caught or saw a BE. Ended that day with 40 up to 34lbs avg 16lbs. Epic! My boy and I fished a jig every bite. I landed 8 on a jig and my landed 5. I forgot to remove hook covers and still caught! Lol.
Thanks for the DePoe Bay answer - watched this great video again - Best part among many good parts was the skill you guys showed in gaffing around the head and not losing any meat from those loins - gret job and thanks!!
Love the show just found it thank you. I live in socal and miss my albacore. Just a tip you can score the skin on back and belly rip off and attack the loins each side gets 2. Like you did but two less steps. 😊 I canned a bunch using jalapeños in the balls jar. Keeps for a long time. Teaspoon of peanut oil teaspoon of non iodized salt packing mason jar Coquette 11 lb for about 240 minutes but the lads Lids on like an seal that's Cantu new you'll ever try good job you guys great video

You need to get salted shaved ice as it's absolutely amazing at staying frozen for stupid amounts of time...spent 5$ on a 5 gallon bucket full Saturday and still have a cooler half full of ice Tuesday night says a lot 😮
Bilge spitting out blood at the launch is the sign of an awesome day lol
