I guess it's nitpicking, but actually the hardest tutorial-boss in Souls is the Vanguard from Demon's Souls, but on the other hand, you're not expected to actually kill him.
To be honest, in immortals Fenyx Rising when i first talked to Aphrodite (who is a tree) i had to fight Achilles's shade, which was extremely tough to even survive. Not sure if you fight a different shade depending on which god you find first, but it's basically the game's way of showing the Typhon's Wrath mechanic, which is the name for Typhon wanting to eff you up when you're casually strolling to your next objective, but he's too lazy to come do it himself so he sends one of his corrupted Greek heroes to do it.
I've always thought that when people do videos like this they should show which games are going to be spoiled, most just let you find out by the time it's too late, I'm surprised and glad someone actually does this!
I was among the very first batch of player of World of Warcraft when it first came out. I played a Human Paladin and remember struggling against an elite mobs named Hogger. For a time Hogger had the most number of players kills recorded...
All the Zentraedi bosses were hard as nails. The regular battlepods and fighters were jokes by comparison. Didn't help that the Defense Force almost never sent any wingmen to lend a hand. Man, now I'm nostalgic for that game, but it had some issues. I'd love to see an updated version.
Dark souls 3 was my introduction to the souls series. Getting that boss to half health was... Not easy but I could consistently do it. The cthulu top however had a moveset I struggled to read for a long time.
What about Hades, the first boss of God of War 3?? The hardest first boss ever, especially at the hardest difficulty. In fact, AFTER you get past it, the game gets easier. Man, that Hades fight was HELL. **Wink Wink** 😏😏😏

Deathstroke is easy as fuck if you depart from your old button-mashing ways and play it slow and steady, like a duel. The fight took me two tries on the first playthrough on the hardest available difficulty, and that was entirely without getting hit. What should have gotten him the promotion is just him being him, because he’s goddamn Deathstroke and should have been last or almost last, not first.
Game Arcuz... The level 7 big wolf was nasty Boss until you have magic refil and a heck of dodging and other ways to lower it's health Then after using to the next more chalenging Boss was the Archer which again his do not stun Exept Lightning. And there goes the 2 Centaur with the same effect as WORST skipping of some weak to going to something REALLY NASTY. A GHOST WITH I dunno 6000 or 8000 HP which is circling around and splits, after getting use to it gets worse. The final Boss (Skip some minor which repeat) THE 2 HADES GIANT, MY NIGHTMARE WHEN HE WAS SLOW RELATIVELY AND AFTER SPECIFIC FEATS A HOT COULD MAKE IT STUN FOR A WHILE LOWER INGENUITY THE HP WHICH IS GINOURMOUS AND HIS DEFENSE REDICULUS. 400 DMG OR 300 FOR HIM AT THAT DEFENSE IS.... 21 TO 30 OR WAS 12 DAMAGE. So did I essence is when can deal damage. But HERE IS THE WORST WHEN HE IS IM HALF HP UNLEASHED 4 ELEMENTAL GHOSTS AND HE GOES REALLY FAST. FAST ATTACK COMBOES AND ALMOST NON CHANCE TO STUN IT. I HAD TO CHEAT WITH MANA BUFFED EQUIPMENT AND TOTAL DMG 800 OR WAS 1000 DMG TO PASSIVE THE MEASLY 300 DMG AT NORMAL STATE. WHEN ON MY OPINION WAS LITTLE BROTHER OF SAITAMA. AND THAT 2 HEAD GIANT APPEARS IN RANDOM INTERVALS AGAIN THIS TIME HIS(ARMOUR MUST BE BROKEN DOWN BUT WAS EASY BUT STILL WAS IN MY NIGHTMARES AS SUDDEN BOSS. AND THE SAME STORY. This time I know. If I hardlybdefeated that the rest would be worse.
I’m sorry if anyone is to young to know or remember , but every boss battle in Wu-tang taste the pain was brutal and could kill you in a single combo. I had to use a “action replay “ to finish the game , 1000% harder than dark souls or any game ever
Gundyr is only hard if you try to block all his attacks and back off. Just stay on his left untill he starts his second stage then keep hitting him till he's dead.
Berial one of the hardest 1st bosses, really? I think I killed him on my 2nd or 3 try. Meanwhile in DMC 3 it took me about 3 hours to kill the miniboss on the second level, and another 4 hours to kill Cerberus.
Father gascoigne from bloodborne deserve promotion even when his axe was extended he could still use his gun also he has annoyingly powerful monster form that can destroy anything he attacks.

Og diablo im impresssed, i just wanna special mention andariel as a major pain if youre a summoner necromancer, because you're squishy and run out of corpses too fast. And yes i beat the me mod free as summoner necro because army of undead so fight me
Not technically 1st boss, more like 3rd. (2nd if you don't count the easily two-shot-killed Salazar*.) But in Resident Evil 4, Compared to Krouser, Sadler is a cakewalk. Heck, compared to the Krauser, the rest of the game is a cakewalk! You'll be afraid to blink for fear of getting blind-sighted by his claw for a left arm! Wish the game had let me kill him either of the first two times I encountered him. He's actually relatively easy to beat in "regular" mode, but in the professional "mode", he seems bang near impossible. *Spoiler - If you buy a rocket launcher from the merchant just outside the tower (and have wisely upgraded and traded-in weapons as you've gone along) shoot the bulging eye with your most powerful handgun, then fire the rocket at the now-exposed Salazar. Possible the first time, but easier the second because the "cacoon" has no cut-scene to eat up precious seconds.

YES! The troll has to count. Skyrim was sort of the first game I played and I was so terrified of that troll that never seemed to lose any life and killed me in a couple of swings :S
I had an Ellen and freaked out in the caverns the first time those big ass spiders dropped down. Many... Many... Levels later; i'm over that traumatic period now.
The first Big Daddy. Sure they're a cakewalk later on once you have more weapons, plasmids, etc. But that first encounter is heartpoundingly difficult, especially on hard.
WookieChef big daddies on lower difficulties you could kill without looking at the screen all you need to do is unload a clip or less of the tommy gun and it’s dead
@@Wiznatcharoo I don't play on lower difficulties. I've been playing video games for so long that there was a certain point where I guess I decided I was too good for anything below hard. For instance, I start every Halo game on Legendary.
Although I remember the second fight significantly easier, since he mostly uses the same moveset as the first time, without the gross black whatever-it-is hanging out of his back.

I remember as a kid Murai was tough as hell. And then I finally beat him, and met the black spider ninjas. I didn't play that game for years after that
Yeah between them and the red dinosaur looking fiends you fight just before, I could never get past the third boss on NGB when I was a kid. If getting exploded every two seconds by the ninja and having your head bitten off by those dinos wasn't bad enough try all that just before a boss fight, that's not bullsh*t at all.
So Murai should be disqualified from this list. Need I remind you all the title is "...First Bosses Who Deserve A Promotion." Murai was a first boss, true. But he was also the final boss, meaning he DID get his promotion. Ergo, he does not count.
Genshin from NGII as well, since you fight him 3 times before fighting the archfiend as the final boss (I found Genshin to be harder than the giant demon that the other fiends spent the whole game trying to resurrect)
True but his final form is super easy, I killed him first try. Murai took more than a year when I was a kid. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that at least seven years passed since I started and beat the game. But when I play it nowadays first Murai still seems much harder.
Deathstroke isn’t the first boss, it’s Killer Croc, who you show the aftermath of in this very video. And Electrocutioner’s “fight” happens before Deathstroke. Hard as the fight is it’s a big stretch to call him a first boss.
I personally think Copperhead was a harder boss than Deathstroke, especially on I Am The Night Mode. Since Copperhead counts as a knife-wielding enemy, and the mode doesnt show you the counter warnings, and youre fighting 20 of her at one time, I found it the most annoying boss to beat. The reason why is because since she has the same attacks as a blade enemy, you dont know if she'll throw the regular slash attack or the long attack you HAVE to hold down the counter button to avoid damage. And since theres so many of her around you, you'll probably just press the button once and get hit 3 more times which drains your health fast. Soooo many retries
I can see where your coming from , bit killer croc isn't really much of a boss fight , more of a , like one of the comments above me said "test boss fight".
What about Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne? Not only is he one of the strongest and fastest hunters in Yharnam, 2/3 of the way through the fight he transforms into a giant werewolf beast and starts jumping around the boss arena. Also, since I'm sure someone will bring it up, The Cleric Beast is an optional boss that you can completely miss, so you end up facing Father Gascoigne first. And you have to beat him to advance in the game.
A friend challenged me to fight him (had never played the game before) he said that if I could defeat in in 5 tries hed give me 100 bucks. I almost beat him at the first try xD aaaaand after that I couldn't even take a third of his life before he killed me :P
Also, the music box you get from the little girl can get you a few free hits, but use it too much and he transforms right then and there. Edit: Learned that the hard way.
Took me 2 hours and a lot of rage to beat him since Bloodborne was my first FromSoft game; never struggled so much in a game before. Became really easy on my NG playthrough because I learned to roll into his werewolf form, not away from.

Iudex Gundyr already had a promotion in the form of Champion Gundyr later on in the game. Was one of the better boss fights in the day the game, after I learned how to prevent him from pummeling me.
I remember when I first picked up Yakuza 0, it was my first time playing a game in the series. Kuze kicked my ass HARD! He's definitely a step up from all the mobs of goons you encounter in the streets of Kamurocho. He has long combo strings, counterattacks, a huge lifebar and your Kiryu is probably pretty weak at that point in game because (as a newcomer) you wouldn't exactly expect the first boss to be this challenging. Or maybe that's just me, I dunno.
Nope, that was exactly my experience too. Yakuza 0 was my first Yakuza game so I had no idea I should take my time doing some substories and actually buying skills. Nor did I know how locking-on worked properly. When I replayed Y0 this year after having played all the entries in the series, I schooled Kuze so hard!
I sympathize, even though I only died once. The game is generous with this fight's checkpoints, so even if you die, it doesn't boot you back to the first room. Kuze himself is tough indeed. Next to no healing options, no other learned styles except Brawler, and almost no other chance to earn money beforehand shifts the scales more in Kuze's favor. Makes it satisfying to beat a boss that's been kickin' your ass, doesn't it?
@@KingdomKey-ik4xk oh absolutely! It forces you to learn the mechanics of the game and pushes you forward early on! There are a lot of harder fights both in this game and later ones, but Kuze is a great initiation. Even story wise, it's Kiryu's first fight against a veteran yakuza badass, it'd makes sense for him to struggle, no matter how much of a badass he becomes later. I just hope that Kuze boss fight doesn't discourage too many people away from the game, it's such a classic!
Strafe and strike. But he hits like a bus and is really unforgiving for your health bar being so small. Even the Asylum Demon was easier, if you had the right items and enough chutzpah.
OtakuUnitedStudio Well, if you run black firebombs in this game again, it’s still trivial. If you aren’t hugging him in the second phase, you can exploit that insane fire weakness easily. They even hand you a good amount of normal firebombs as well.

But Deathstroke isn't first? You fight Killer Croc at Blackgate as the first boss, you literally showed the aftermath of this boss fight with the punch/question style interrogation
I remember spending ages fighting Deathstroke... Him - "I know you spotted the opening I gave you, but you didn't take it, why?" Me - "Um, no, I actually legitimately did not see any opening. Kind of hard to do when you attack and counterattack as fast as light." Him - (starts attacking in a rapid QTE with his staff and tethers explosive canisters to me) Me - "Oh, good, the *easy part*"
What annoys me the most about Deathstroke is that you Bat-Fist him in the face about 300 times, and all it does for most of that is make him angry. It has been firmly established that a single application of Bat-Knuckle can level most people, so what is his head made out of? He even loses his helmet and suffers no apparent loss of protection. Is it just a mask?
For him yes its mainly for psychological factor and a gas mask, deathstroke has enhanced endurance, strength, speed and reflexes due to a super soldier serum he was experimented on with
Yeah Deathstroke isn't an ordinary Human, and despite being strong enough to give Croc a run for his money he doesn't rely on his strength to win. Also his healing factor is only half as good as Wolverine's... only half... Still makes him stupidly hard to kill.
In Magica 1, your "tutorial boss" is Behold the Watcher. After just learning all the controls, 6 different ways to cast spells AND 8 spell elements, you suddenly face him. He hits you with pink projectiles as well as a lazer beam. He's incredibly tough for a new player (unless you know you can cut the rope to your left and drop a chandelier on him, killing him instantly).
Gyoubu Oniwa from sekiro is the best first boss in any video game I've played yet. He's tough as hell when you aren't used to the game yet, and the setting and music are so fantastic that they make the game's first boss feel like another game's final one. Absolutely deserves a spot in my eyes.
I don't share the fear because i played Diablo 3 first, and only. And the butcher is a effing pushover in that game, even though he's the final boss of act one. The grills are very telegraphed. And what does that fat thickhead think they are going to hit with that useless hook thing.

When Kane is the easiest boss in all of titanfall 2 and his boss fight is a breeze even on the hardest difficulty
not to a new player though, as explained in video, he's quite the toughy if you don't pick up on his attack patterns correctly

When I was a kid I could never pass the ninja guidan level. I have yet to return to that game

In the Arkham games, my playstyle is ruthless attacks plus counters, Deathstroke doesn’t sound that tough

Not technically 1st boss, more like 3rd. (2nd if you don't count the easily two-shot-killed Salazar*.) But in Resident Evil 4, Compared to Krouser, Sadler is a cakewalk. Heck, compared to the Krauser, the rest of the game is a cakewalk! You'll be afraid to blink for fear of getting blind-sighted by his claw for a left arm! Wish the game had let me kill him either of the first two times I encountered him. He's actually relatively easy to beat in "regular" mode, but in the professional "mode", he seems bang near impossible.
*Spoiler - If you buy a rocket launcher from the merchant just outside the tower (and have wisely upgraded and traded-in weapons as you've gone along) shoot the bulging eye with your most powerful handgun, then fire the rocket at the now-exposed Salazar. Possible the first time, but easier the second because the "cacoon" has no cut-scene to eat up precious seconds.

I had an Ellen and freaked out in the caverns the first time those big ass spiders dropped down. Many... Many... Levels later; i'm over that traumatic period now.

The first Big Daddy. Sure they're a cakewalk later on once you have more weapons, plasmids, etc. But that first encounter is heartpoundingly difficult, especially on hard.

@@Wiznatcharoo I don't play on lower difficulties. I've been playing video games for so long that there was a certain point where I guess I decided I was too good for anything below hard. For instance, I start every Halo game on Legendary.
They're still hard on NG+
When you're playing on the hardest difficulty. All those weapons and plasmids mean nothing now.
To be fair, Iudex Gundyr does get a promotion... Gives me conniptions...
Although I remember the second fight significantly easier, since he mostly uses the same moveset as the first time, without the gross black whatever-it-is hanging out of his back.
@@kimnicaro3496 that transformation made it easier since he's now a bigger target and you can predict his movements, the second fight was harder because he has faster reflexes and he actually does have a new move

Yeah between them and the red dinosaur looking fiends you fight just before, I could never get past the third boss on NGB when I was a kid. If getting exploded every two seconds by the ninja and having your head bitten off by those dinos wasn't bad enough try all that just before a boss fight, that's not bullsh*t at all.
So Murai should be disqualified from this list. Need I remind you all the title is "...First Bosses Who Deserve A Promotion." Murai was a first boss, true. But he was also the final boss, meaning he DID get his promotion. Ergo, he does not count.
Same with Indux Gundyr, late game you can fight an optional version of the boss called Champion Gundyr that is stronger, more aggressive, and harder
Genshin from NGII as well, since you fight him 3 times before fighting the archfiend as the final boss (I found Genshin to be harder than the giant demon that the other fiends spent the whole game trying to resurrect)

True but his final form is super easy, I killed him first try. Murai took more than a year when I was a kid. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that at least seven years passed since I started and beat the game. But when I play it nowadays first Murai still seems much harder.

Deathstroke isn’t the first boss, it’s Killer Croc, who you show the aftermath of in this very video. And Electrocutioner’s “fight” happens before Deathstroke. Hard as the fight is it’s a big stretch to call him a first boss.

I personally think Copperhead was a harder boss than Deathstroke, especially on I Am The Night Mode. Since Copperhead counts as a knife-wielding enemy, and the mode doesnt show you the counter warnings, and youre fighting 20 of her at one time, I found it the most annoying boss to beat. The reason why is because since she has the same attacks as a blade enemy, you dont know if she'll throw the regular slash attack or the long attack you HAVE to hold down the counter button to avoid damage. And since theres so many of her around you, you'll probably just press the button once and get hit 3 more times which drains your health fast. Soooo many retries

What about Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne? Not only is he one of the strongest and fastest hunters in Yharnam, 2/3 of the way through the fight he transforms into a giant werewolf beast and starts jumping around the boss arena.
Also, since I'm sure someone will bring it up, The Cleric Beast is an optional boss that you can completely miss, so you end up facing Father Gascoigne first. And you have to beat him to advance in the game.
A friend challenged me to fight him (had never played the game before) he said that if I could defeat in in 5 tries hed give me 100 bucks. I almost beat him at the first try xD aaaaand after that I couldn't even take a third of his life before he killed me :P
Also, the music box you get from the little girl can get you a few free hits, but use it too much and he transforms right then and there.
Edit: Learned that the hard way.
Took me 2 hours and a lot of rage to beat him since Bloodborne was my first FromSoft game; never struggled so much in a game before. Became really easy on my NG playthrough because I learned to roll into his werewolf form, not away from.

Gascoingne is easy enough once you know what you're doing but saying that he killed me more times then I could count when I first played Bloodborne.

Was one of the better boss fights in the day the game, after I learned how to prevent him from pummeling me.
I remember when I first picked up Yakuza 0, it was my first time playing a game in the series.
Kuze kicked my ass HARD! He's definitely a step up from all the mobs of goons you encounter in the streets of Kamurocho. He has long combo strings, counterattacks, a huge lifebar and your Kiryu is probably pretty weak at that point in game because (as a newcomer) you wouldn't exactly expect the first boss to be this challenging.
Or maybe that's just me, I dunno.
Nope, that was exactly my experience too. Yakuza 0 was my first Yakuza game so I had no idea I should take my time doing some substories and actually buying skills. Nor did I know how locking-on worked properly. When I replayed Y0 this year after having played all the entries in the series, I schooled Kuze so hard!
I sympathize, even though I only died once. The game is generous with this fight's checkpoints, so even if you die, it doesn't boot you back to the first room. Kuze himself is tough indeed. Next to no healing options, no other learned styles except Brawler, and almost no other chance to earn money beforehand shifts the scales more in Kuze's favor. Makes it satisfying to beat a boss that's been kickin' your ass, doesn't it?
@@KingdomKey-ik4xk oh absolutely! It forces you to learn the mechanics of the game and pushes you forward early on! There are a lot of harder fights both in this game and later ones, but Kuze is a great initiation. Even story wise, it's Kiryu's first fight against a veteran yakuza badass, it'd makes sense for him to struggle, no matter how much of a badass he becomes later.
I just hope that Kuze boss fight doesn't discourage too many people away from the game, it's such a classic!

Gundyr is still one of the easiest bosses in souls. The trick is to stay behind him and Dodge forward+left.
Also his music is excellent.
Strafe and strike. But he hits like a bus and is really unforgiving for your health bar being so small. Even the Asylum Demon was easier, if you had the right items and enough chutzpah.
Or just parry him repeatedly because his telegraphs are years long and every attack he has besides the grab and the kick is parry fodder.
OtakuUnitedStudio Well, if you run black firebombs in this game again, it’s still trivial. If you aren’t hugging him in the second phase, you can exploit that insane fire weakness easily. They even hand you a good amount of normal firebombs as well.

I was playing that bugger for days! I couldn't see what I was supposed to do to him.
What annoys me the most about Deathstroke is that you Bat-Fist him in the face about 300 times, and all it does for most of that is make him angry. It has been firmly established that a single application of Bat-Knuckle can level most people, so what is his head made out of? He even loses his helmet and suffers no apparent loss of protection. Is it just a mask?
For him yes its mainly for psychological factor and a gas mask, deathstroke has enhanced endurance, strength, speed and reflexes due to a super soldier serum he was experimented on with

Yeah Deathstroke isn't an ordinary Human, and despite being strong enough to give Croc a run for his money he doesn't rely on his strength to win. Also his healing factor is only half as good as Wolverine's... only half... Still makes him stupidly hard to kill.
So he is: one cap america + half deadpool (- the humor) + pinch of ninja + whole lots of guns + MGS big boss look. :)

In Magica 1, your "tutorial boss" is Behold the Watcher. After just learning all the controls, 6 different ways to cast spells AND 8 spell elements, you suddenly face him. He hits you with pink projectiles as well as a lazer beam. He's incredibly tough for a new player (unless you know you can cut the rope to your left and drop a chandelier on him, killing him instantly).
Furby? Most terrifying thing? Bah, Luke clearly doesn't remember Mr. Blobby.... happy nightmares :p

Gyoubu Oniwa from sekiro is the best first boss in any video game I've played yet. He's tough as hell when you aren't used to the game yet, and the setting and music are so fantastic that they make the game's first boss feel like another game's final one. Absolutely deserves a spot in my eyes.
