Words cannot explain how grateful I am for you to have made this video. I was watching all these videos and clips, looking for a straightforward and understandable explanation of how the railways work in this game, and how to actually use train signals. Previously, I knew very little about trains overall, and so I had no idea how those signals worked and how to piece together junctions. I watched videos, and they confused me even more, and I began to believe that it was a much harder task than it really was. I immediately could understand this video. It was straightforward, it was completely understandable. It was simple. Thank you my friend, for teaching me the way. And now I feel like such an idiot because of how easy you made it look! 😂
This is the first video that I have found, that actually shows you HOW it works and WHY it works! Thank you for a really good explanation for beginners!
Since there is no measuring tool for measuring the space in the junktion so that a whole train fits in, you can use the technical University. The longest trains are about 150 meters and the technical university is a little bit longer. Works well and makes trackbuilding less frustrating.
@@SentinalhMC an even better way to do it, is unselect autobuild & use the track beside where you build to make a section of track that matches the length of the longest train you'll ever use. Adekyn video's he always uses what he calles 6 ton rule.. which basically means start of the track to end of it is no smaller then roughly 6 tons of material to build it. As the game has gotten bigger wagons I've increased it to 7 tons ( which is longer ) & if you keep that distance in mind, & keep both junctions & semaphore distances that length you'll never end up with issue either. Also rule of thumb i use.. always chain into junction, single signal out of it, never have a blocked section.
Thank you for a nice introduction into basic rail signal usage for people with out a lot of previous experience in rail games. A good amount of info to start out with but not over whelming. Just after I posted this I went to look for more of your basic game tutorials and realized I sent you a thank for your previous basic rail video for single track lines, and figured out enough to decide to play with 2 track systems, and you provided the best video for 2 track rail basics. So here is a 3rd thank you for getting me going on solid single track setup and then onto 2 track setup, you do well at giving out just enough info for each step of progression on learning the rail system.
Thanks. Very helpful. Just a technical point: In railroad terminology, the intersection you describe as a "T" intersection is actually called a "Y" intersection. This is not a criticism, I just wanted to point out what an old-time railroad engineer would have called it. I'll check out your other videos for more helpful bits.
Finally!! Finally a tutorial that will end my suffering. Thank you a lot bro. I finally got to know how these damn cursed signals work and all that thanks to you. You are my hero! :)
Wish that you had expanded on this a bit more with Chain signals showing how they are used at a multiple junctions like entering multiple platforms at a trains station or entering a train yard with multiple lines. But the good job explaining the basics of the chain signals. Will link this to other TH-camrs since they haven't figures this out yet and it so........ frustrating listening to them complain about signal not working correctly or why trains are so dumb and they keep getting stuck head to head or blocking intersections.
Thank you alot for this video. It was the first video of you I watched and it helped alot. Keep up the good work you have a very good way of explaining things. =) Left a sub for you.
At 23:00, why is the train coming from the top actually stopping when the train from the bottom only can go straight ahead? Shouldn't this allow the train coming from the top, which can only go straight or turn right, so not interfere with the train coming from the bottom, to proceed its route?
A different way to explaining it that may help some folks. A regular signal checks ONE condition : State of the next block. (Next meaning direction of travel.) It can be in 2 states: RED : Next block is occupied GREEN : Next block is empty A chain signal checks TWO conditions : State of the next block AND state of the exit block. It can be in 3 states: RED : [ Next block is empty AND all exit blocks are occupied ] OR [ Next block is occupied ] BLUE : Next block is empty AND at least one exit block is empty GREEN : Next block is empty AND all exit blocks are empty For a T-junction like this, there is a slightly better design for this use case where you have a frequently used "mainline" and a less often used line. It takes more spacing and a few more signals, but you can then ensure the mainline trains in opposite directions never have to stop for each other. You essentially widen out the 2 mainline tracks and get some chain signals on the cross rails so you have a "top" and "bottom" block. That way the mainline traffic never enters a block for the other direction, and the depot traffic can still come on/off without a deadlock.
what is a little bit annoying with chain signals though is that they block the opposite direction in junctions aswell. i'm pretty sure this is a mishap in the programmed logic. a train going straight through the bar of the T junction from left to right, and another train going through the bar of the T to the left, they should not give each other a red signal. thats pretty bad on busy lines
Thanks. I don't understand routing logic. Some games had problem with signals on Y split. When one exit was free and other was not, train went through and ended at wrong place.
Best explanation... too bad they didn't use the TF2 or Railway Empire signal system instead of Factorio (Really?), much easier! Thank you for the excellent guide! :D
simply the Best Explanation there is about chain signals ive found. Will definately help anyone do them properly. Thanks subbed for more great videos.
Hey thanks a lot, I really appreciate it
Ditto, subbed ;)

Ooh thanks for the tip

This is the video I was looking for for the last two hours. Thank you so much!

Yeah, crushed the chain semaphore explanation. Cheers mate!

I'm very glad you found it helpful.
same here now aim ready time to connect my city's and factory's
Though i had some idea about the normal signals, the chain signals had me stumped. thanks for this video..
Wow, happy to report that my mental block on trains has dispersed completely due to this easy to understand guide
Best semaphore video I've seen!
Nice explanation at last. But now I need to rebuild massive rail infrastructure.
BEST TUTORIAL EVER - Thanks man!
Now I understand why my tram station went bust
Thanks for helping me sorting it out
Good explanation. Even better showing hat you had an issue and how you resolved it.
Definitely helped a great deal, made setting up trains almost easy.

Really useful, just what I needed! Would love to see a video on your transcontinental railroad video if you've finished it by now 😉

Go Job. Thanx. Now I understand Chain Signals.
Thank you. I actually had the signals right but one of my T junctions lead into the same track
Finally a useful tutorial.
Awesome video! Thank you so much!
very well explain , even from french user ! bien joué ! ;)

I have made the same setup but still my trains are blocking in the X section in front of the sation at custum building?!
Thanks, hope you put out more W&R videos soon
You know I just might be doing that
Very well explained! Thanks!
Thanks. I don't understand routing logic. Some games had problem with signals on Y split. When one exit was free and other was not, train went through and ended at wrong place.
Thank you sir you saved the game for me
Great info well explained! you got a new sub
Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it
Thank you a lot. You saved my life :))) amazing tutorial
I'm glad it helped
Very helpful video, thank you.
I'll use chain tip in Mashinky ^^
very helpful! Спасибо
Thank you, but i still cant rap my head around it. but these simple tips will get me there!
hey bro about that minecraft tech guns would you mind releasing a crafting list for it
What do you mean crafting list?
Can't I artificially increase the effective junction size by placing the semaphores further from the junction??
Thanks dude
thx for chain signal tip
Good information, thank you :)
Very informative!
Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful
Very helpful, keep it up 😀
I plan to, anything specific you'd like to see?
More train videos 😂
Best explanation... too bad they didn't use the TF2 or Railway Empire signal system instead of Factorio (Really?), much easier! Thank you for the excellent guide! :D
nice! Thank you
You're very welcome
great
This doesnt work anymore, now you have to have a chain signal
у нас так не стоют) много излишних пересечений
добавляют развилок больше и всё
LOl not my fault yankees drive n the wrong side of the road , in my country mate i have seen 8 rail tracks.
