The most tragic part for Vakama was the fact that he idolized Lhikan. Lhikan was his hero. And when Lhikan died in his arms, you can feel just how crushed he was in the movie. Seeing Vakama close his eyes as if tearing up, the swell of the music, and this "trauma" triggers his mask power (anyone else getting an MTG Planeswalker feel here?). And when he goes to fight Teridax, you can hear it in his voice when he says, "Not this time." Vakama is furious! He is also not going to let his hero down again. Where he does lose his way in the Hordika ark, he does come back. And he stays true after that.
I agree wholeheartedly, but here is my own personal honorable mention: Toa Ignika. Born from the plant life of Karda Nui, Ignika was more or less the will of the mask of life that was inspired by Matoro's sacrifice and love for his comrades. Ignika wanted to learn what it really meant to be a hero, and, unfortunately, he found out in the realest way imaginable. In order to fully awaken Mata Nui, he would have to revert back being a plain, lifeless mask, and this was after befriending Tahu and the others. He went through great pain in his conversion, but willingly accepted it since it meant saving the world. Unfortunately, Teridax was well ahead of him, and he stole Mata Nui's body, thus rendering Ignika's sacrifice as pointless.
this is one of the reasons why i love Bionicle and remember the stories to this day. characters like Matoro weren't just stereotypes, they felt real. they were relate-able. they were developed. Matoro is without a doubt my favorite character for these reasons.
Matoro saving Mata Nui from death truly makes him the greatest hero. But the fact that he had to die in order to do so is both heart breaking and soul crushing.
You say the quote that sums up Takua as a matoran is "You were always different" but we all know it's really Jaller yelling "TAKUAAAAAA!" at the top of his lungs
I will always love Nidhiki, because he was a unique character. A badass scyte-wielding Toa, who is a type of Air-Toa, you don't find any more: a dark, lonely type, who would sooner use the power of the air to choke his opponent, than fly crazy. His invisibility makes him an even more dangerous assassin and he was a Toa who never got praise and statues, but wanted it deep inside. I like to explore his mindset and motivations.

I say Pohatu would belong on this list aswell. Out of all the Toa Mata he and Gali was the ones that seemed to be the most caring of the well-being of all the inhabitants of Mata Nui, Toa, Matoran or Turaga. The difference between Pohatu and Gali that make him the more sympathetic character in my mind is that in the Toa Empire storyline, Pohatu was one of few Toa that rebelled. And when the final battle took place, he did everything he could to stop Gali from getting killed. That proves to me that even in a situation where he is being told what is the right thing, he saw through what he was told and could see that he was not fighting the good fight. Otherwise i agree to most points of this list!
Tren Krom is a character who can be called an intelligent creature in the body of a monster, and he is different than the others. Your video are amazing
I relate a lot to Vakama, mostly because I'm in a relationship where I am now forced to lead. I have no experience with leading, I have doubts about it. I'm a Leo, a born leader, yet I don't know how I can lead. But if I'm anything like Vakama, I'll find a way to lead, and lead magnificently.

I felt he should have made the plot where Mata Nui was originally a very selfish and arrogant individual that didn't care about others, and the Order of Mata Nui committed brutality which was why the Brotherhood rebelled against them, over time the Brotherhood became selfish, corrupt, and evil, except for Krika. Mata Nui after being overthrown by Teridax realized the error of his ways and how he alienated others and decided to be a new person. I think that would make the storyline better as it's more grey instead of black and white.
I realy realy like the Story of Krika. I was always hoping he was survive and join the Toa Mahri. Because, the Groop havent any white in it. So a sad End for this Great Charakter. Also, im a hug fand of Pohato. He was the First Toa what want to work in a Team. All others except for Onua dont realy are much Sozial. Also, the Toa Mata are more Emporers, whit big Egos, but Pohatu is a solid Charakter. A lovable Hero and friend for his people.
What a great list, if I had to add one more character it would have to be toa Lesovikk. If it isn't to much to ask for your next top tens, could you rank the 12 bionicle years, list your top ten favorite toa and then top ten favorite bionicle characters. One other compliment I can give you, is that your two top tens are nothing like any of the other bionicle top tens, they are basic like top ten favorite games or weapons, they examine character and story for their picks. I personally dont know much about the bionicle characters but even with the bits of information you put in the video,I understood all of it and actually got a bit emotional hearing some of them,especially Matoro's (love that touch of heroic music aswell,it adds a lot).All in all,a fantastic video man!
Krika was my favorite of the Makuta from the phantoka and mistika sets even before I knew how awesome he was in the story too. He may have been a “villain” by proxy of being a makuta but he proved that they were not just evil
Matoro is really "moving" character. I was surprised when i saw him first time on this list. But then i started to read again the story of my childhood. You are right, Matoro is one of the greatest Bionicle heroes because he was one of the most underestimated characters. I really don't feel like I remember Matoro as my favourite hero. Maybe that's because I was at the edge of adulty when the Toa Inika line was released. But now, as an AFOL, I understand why G2 of Bionicle could never sell as well as G1. It's because the lack of epicness. There are no characters that would affect the story that much, no sacrifices, no heart moving moments. When I was a kid Bionicle was my favourite Lego idea they've ever made. And after years I still think the same.

I just realized if you look at Mata Nui' s shape and the island arrangements the Voya Nui is over the crotch area and where the islands making up the legs start. The island has a volcano in the middle where the mask of life was located I can't stop imagining that
If I knew Bonicle would end when they first came out, you have NO idea how much I would have made sure the sets would never be taken apart, or abused. I miss you Bionicle, and I can only hope you make a return in either games, or collector sets returning to the market somehow.

I was kinda hoping you actually WOULD put Nuparu on the list - considering his past with creating the Vahki who oppressed his friends, and later discoved that the Boxors he made were created from the remains of fellow Matoran, that all probably weighed on him heavily.
Vakama was a matoran who doubted his ability to make masks, then he was a toa who doubted his ability to lead, then he was a toa hordika who still doubted his ability to lead and also became evil and then turned good again and also turned back into a regular toa, and at that point he became a turaga and finally got over his inferiority complex. "I'll never be a real toa!"
Lhikan and Lesovikk were mistakes not to include but they will be on another Top 10 in the future. Vezon? He's not sympathetic in the slightest despite being my favorite BIONICLE character next to TSO.

The feels are strong when you fully understand the stories of every character. I would list a few character, but the names of most Bionicle are generally hard to grasp, due to only one or two characters having those names.
Matoro is still my favorite toa to this day, as i got into bionicle at the worst time: the ending (2009-2010) My cousin (and closest friend) however, had gotten into it long before, and had a large collection. We traded Bionicles like trading cards, and i gave up my beloved Tarix, for Matoro: Toa Mahri of Ice. I have tried to gather his pieces and rebuild my favorite Toa, but i have lost some due to MOC building. i am considering buying a new matoro.
One thing I always loved about Bionicle was the character development. Even with their powers, adventures, and non-canon romance, they gave the characters flaws and relatable traits

If I was one of these sympathetic beings I would be vakama because I thought I was a failure but I proved myself wrong because my best friend made me believe in myself and I have faced many fears like the bad humans, Megatron, velika, Carnage, teridax, springtrap and even the devil himself to overcome them and then I proved God right that I will always be called a brave hearted hero!

Not pointless! Without him, Mata Nui would sleep forever! The great spirit robot rising helped Teridax, but helped Mata Nui too.

There are so many unique and creative stories, characters, locations, factions, that you forget that Bionicle was created by LEGO.

There were 100 Makuta created by Mata Nui. 85 male, 15 female. Makuta Miserix is the last Makuta alive in G1 after Teridax was killed.
