- A visit to Johnny Carson includes the customary laughs as well as a thank you from someone Michael saved from drowning in a swimming pool while he was a life guard (who didn't know how to swim!) - pre- Bonanza days, of course.
I had such a crush on him when I was a teenager 😍 he was very handsome and of course a great actor ❤ R.i.H.

Everyone just turned away while he punched his wife in the face. My mother tried shielding me from seeing it but that didn't stop me from hearing her screams.

Growing up, I'd always get SO PISSED OFF seeing him playing characters such as an angel or the "good guy". I've refused to watch any show he had ever been in.

I SO WANTED to contact him, to tell him the indelible impression he made on me at 4 years old & tell him WHAT I WITNESSED him do to his wife.
I wanted to ask HOW he could do that in front of a small child (me).
He knew I was standing just feet from him because we locked eyes in between his punches.
I'll never forget that evil stare down.
I never did reach him before he died.
I'll be 60 in a few months.

@jennic.548 - Very different from anything on TV today. A bit dated in terms of clothes, gadgets, etc - but the really important things in life haven't changed at all . And Michael Landon knew what those important things were. That's why all of his shows are still playing today. I love them all. So glad you are watching HTH again. Hearing those two talk is so relaxing. Nobody seems nervous or trying to put on some kind of image but their just being themselves.
I love Johnny Carson!! I remember my grandpa watching him daily. Bedtime was always after the tonight show. Snack time watch after the 11 o'clock news. I miss my grandpa who was more of a father to me. I was handicap well I still am but my childhood was hard but my grandpa always took me to his place and I loved being with him but most of the time I couldn't do much and he would carry me from the car to the house or to Dr's appointment. Not sure why I never had a wheelchair? I have a brittle bone disease so I always had broken bones and usually my legs. My grandpa and mom did everything possible for me and when I wanted a certain toy he would go to Toys'R Us daily and the workers knew him and would put aside things. I rarely got out due to my handicap but they made my life as easy as possible. Toys video games music TV and movies also helped. Luckily it was the 80's! I still think about him daily. I can't do much these days and most Dr's are surprised I'm still here because they don't know anyone with my condition at my age! Not sure why I'm says all this but it feels good.

Watching the whole Highway to Heaven at the moment and remembering how special Michael and Victor were. Good to see Michael was so funny and loved to laugh like he does in his programs. Miss them both.

Like all of us, Michael had some flaws. But he provided the public with genuinely good television. Very little of that on television these days. Shows like Little House or Highway to Heaven would never get on the air today.
I agree completely. And, of course, there are no cowboy shows at all. And Bonanza was a great family show. 3 brothers and a Pa who openly cared about each other. A rarity back then - non-existent today!

Why do you feel this way? 🤔The Lord knows Michael Landon was an actor, and a serial adulterer, amongst other things. I'm more than sure He's not impressed Michael pretended to be an angel on TV. I'm sorry but I just don't get this statement at all. I'm not trying to be rude but what theology do you prescribe to that would make you say such a thing?
I enjoyed Landon's work as much as anyone, grew up with it and appreciate everything he produced in his career. But we can't buy our way into Heaven, not with money, fame, or primetime, family TV.
Michael was a human being. Not a saint. And like us all he needed saving. I pray he spent his last days getting right with God but if not, the "special" place reserved for him won't be anywhere near God's heart. And according to those who actually knew and was acquainted with him Michael didn't prescribe to any faith. He believed God existed in some way but that was the extent of it. The Bible says even demons believe, and tremble in fear. Believe me, they're not going to heaven.

The amazingly talented, incredibly handsome Michael! Judging by the baseball comments, this must be late Oct/early Nov 1981. He was still doing Little House (hence the intro music) but was now heavily involved with and plugging his new NBC series "Father Murphy," on which he was executive producer and co-director. Debuted Nov 3rd, 1981.

I'd like to think Micheal is someone I would have become friends if we met in Hollywood....this is why I love old tv/film...two guys just chatting...no gimmicks.
According to his friends, that was a special thing about him,. you felt instantly at ease. Matt Labyorteaux said "he was magical."

swim. Yet- he saved a boy's life by bouncing from the bottom of the pool to the top, holding the boy. Johnny Carson read a letter from that boy - now a grown man - thanking ML for saving his life. Even though ML couldn't swim!!
Those days in which tv was a cultural treasure, save a few exceptions no swearing, no political correctness, and mind you nothing of all the madness of today regarding sex-change, abortion, emtitlement, etc.

I saw an interview with Melissa Gilbert she was talking about how Landon tried to keep cost down on the show.She said she had a very small modest trailer,but she didn't dare ask for a better one because Michael had the same small trailer.

@@lorraineb.4698 Most of the time everyone wore the same clothes which would have been normal of the time. People would have an everyday outfit maybe 2 and a Sunday outfit. Also part may have come from Michael"s Bonanza days . Each character had their outfit, they started doing it that way a couple seasons in. It was so that when there were scenes of them just riding they reused old footage. When Dan Blocker died they changed clothes being that they could not use footage he was in.I remember Laura's first nice dress the brown,yellow,orange one I always thought it was so ugly.

@@lorraineb.4698 They did have a falling out pretty early in the show concerning her pay.She thought she was a main character and deserved a larger pay than than the child stars but Michael pulled up a poll that said she was the least like character on the show and turned down the request.He also fell out with Victor French who did not have a contract and was paid per episode. Victor took a series of Carter Country and Michael felt betrayed because Victor left. He may have "punished" her by trying to make her character look "plain" a bit far-fetched but who knows.

@@sueannbellucci4304 Well, of course, she was not going to say anything negative about him publicly during those years. She was relating to the private salary negotiations. And she was a prominent regular on the series and deserved substantial raises. Landon refused any considerations, period. As to Kevin Hagen, he had the same complaint. And during those years of the series' popularity, I read and heard from different sources that Landon's arroganceand ego were causing considerable comments.
@karen Carter - the man's been gone for over 30 years and she didn't remember any of her complaints until someone offered to pay her to put them in a book. If his so called ego made it hard to work with him why did most of his crew follow him from Bonanza to LHOP to HTH and were signed up to do his new show. Why is there a book - "Michael Landon: Remembered with Smiles and Laughter" written shortly after his death BY his crew, filled with stories about his kindness, generosity, loyalty, genius, and just plain goodness? Check out Helane Solomon's TH-cam Channel where she has interviewed dozens of actors who worked with him and have nothing but glowing comments. Her most recent: Eldin something or other - worked with him on HTH and remembers how he ate lunch and played cards with the crew - that NEVER, EVER happens on a set he said. Time after time nothing but positive comments. Shame on you for believing the worst when the evidence to the contrary is so abundant. How sad for you.
