Love the idea. You never know what situation you might find yourself in. It's a lot easier to put yourself in these situations on your own terms and work out the kinks that it is to do it in an emergency on the fly. Great video!

AWESOME!!! I never thought it could be done one-handed but you proved it can be. It's slower and tedious but can be done, obviously since you proved it. I had one thought on how to transfer the initial fire. Take a forked stick with a nest of shavings across it, positioned by the knife when you draw the ferro rod. Once the nest catches fire, carry it with the small forked tree branch to a close by designated area for the main fire. BUT., that's just me thinking out loud. 😁

Great stuff! If this is really a concern you might want to stage your gear for quick one-handed deployment before finding yourself in this predicament, Ie: ferro rod/knife, first aid pouch up front on your backpack strap so as to make it available to either hand. If you have to fumble for it with two hands imagine how awkward it's gonna' be when you have to do it one-handed with your off-hand! Again great food for thought! Regards and best, Pink.

I practice all my skills, including marksmanship, with both of my hands. During my second deployment to Iraq, I injured my right hand (near the thumb, 6 stitches) and found it necessary to fire my rifle left-handed. Ever since then, I have forced myself to train for injuries.

Definitely more difficult. I'm going to try this with my emergency Orion mini flares to see how difficult it is to ignite them.

Remember that if you break your arm, not only will you have to build a fire, you'll have to do it while in serious pain. Pain can be debilitating.

If you get that much injured, in a SHTF situation, the 1st thing you must do, is to calm down (a prayer can help a lot on that) Then, it's knowledge and experience, that you have to put down and find out how to get out, of that situation, as fast as possible without doing any mistake, going in panic mode, doing things fast, without having any concentration, on what you do. Take deep breaths, and calm dowwwwn... Try to bring to your memory, your mom when she was trying to put you to sleep when you were a baby! lol
Jokes aside, I don't think, I'd have both the time ,and the clear mind, to remember put my gloves on, or to find a tree stump. Personally, when I try to bring to my mind, the picture of such a situation, I know that it would be way more difficult, in a real case, and usually, it's not only like that, but also you can't find, your stuff like gear etc, easy, even if those are in front of you, or where you usually put them, when something like that happens, you get to panic mode, no matter how calm you are as a person! So I always try to make a picture, that everything is way more difficult to do. I could be wrong though, because that's just my opinion, after my personal experience. Cheers!

@@ThePreparedWanderer it's probably not easy. The knots you might use for a ridge line. Wondering how possible it is when single handed ...
