"Strange fire" translates to "unauthorized fire", so what we know is that Nadab and Abihu thought they could tweak some of what God asked for in his Holy commandment, and they were promptly destroyed. That sends the message that the commands of God must be kept Holy, and part of what that means is you CANNOT modify from what He has asked. Accuracy does matter. Saying we can do things just a bit differently is to not revere God as Holy in our hearts.

For the first time in life I read entire book of Leviticus and I must say it's a really really important book. Very powerful insights to understand what God expects of people. Shallow people may not like it, but anyone who wants a deeper relationship with God must read it.

@@hughjanus2781The book of Leviticus is very true and honest about the human condition. Slaves were people conquered in battle - not just randomly rounded up! Hello America!
      So:
"... slaves were to be treated fairly, receive their just wages, were not to work during the sabbath, and not to be treated harshly or severely harmed."
I wonder what the Divine penalty was for breaking these laws? 😮

Absolutely amazing!!.....JUST what I was looking for this evening - an OVERVIEW of the book of Leviticus, which will help me invaluably with reading the individual chapters (which could otherwise have felt a bit like being lost in a maze of precise physical regulations, without necessarily understanding the APPLICATION of it to us as believers under the NEW Covenant)....You have provided us with a clear, concise understanding of the STRUCTURE of the book, along with an explanation of how it is an absolutely ESSENTIAL part of the ongoing story of Israel and their (and our) God and, by implication, of the understanding of how WE OURSELVES can co-exist with Creator of The Universe.
Thank you, and you've just got yourself a new subscriber!!!👍👍👍😃😃😃 (by the way it's also SO COOL and important to have that very visual DIAGRAMMATIC SCHEME of the whole book behind you all the time, as a sort of frame of reference on which to hang everything you are telling us, and help us REMEMBER it all!)
This is the first of your "Bible book" videos I have watched, but I may very well look at your others when I happen to be studying the individual books concerned.....Thank you again

The Bible cannot be appreciated without understanding it’s historical basis and just how real all of these things were. These things happened, they are not myths. Even the very tabernacle itself took hold of Egyptian-style architectural design, reinforcing that these events were not in a bubble secluded from the rest of the world, although they were designed to be sanctified spiritually and thus physically, but they still occurred within the same plane of existence as other contemporary cultures and civilizations. They had a duty to perform, and what we read is their understanding of how God instructed them to follow and obey him.
Due to their failure, we have a higher priest, one that needs not annual sacrifice as those of the temple or in the tabernacle needed, but by himself given up once, was an atonement not only for the children of Israel, but for the whole of humanity. That sacrifice was God become incarnate through the redemptive blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, the son of God, establishing a more perfect law, through the very word of God incorruptible in Christ.

Hi Jeffrey. Thank you for your very nice explanation. I have picked up a flavor in your speech that I would like for you to consider.
That is, the instructions in Leviticus is not at all something that people (or the Jews) thought up and started believing.
In other words, no group of humans can ever get the credit or even claim ownership for God's instruction.
Rather, it is God the creator's instructions, written down for His created. And should be handled as such.
It does not matter what we "believe" the instructions to be for, or from, or whether it is still relevant. Rather what God says about it, that is true, whether we believe it or not.
I am trying to be clear so I try again: If we believe something contrary to the instructions of God, it makes us wrong. It does not change the truth of God's words.
Now with that I am not saying that everyone can "do" every instruction, for some are directed to position, gender, place, seasons etc. But we can all "keep" the instructions in our heart, and not reject it.
If I could humbly and fearfully give a summary regarding what I think God says that His instructions are for, it would be the following:
    1) That we believe that God is one, and his instruction are eternal truth. (which produces appropriate fear, then wisdom, also perfect love, and faith unto His Salvation i.e. "Yeshua".)
    2) That we show God that we love Him, the way He wants to be loved.
    3) That we show love to all humans, the way God want us to love humans.
Thanks. I hope I accurately conveyed the message and stayed true to the word.
