"Know thy Self". This is what even Upanishads are saying. Then, how is that what Bhagavan Buddha said is different from what Upanishads have said? How can anyone say that Buddha was against Upanishads and Brahman? The question is- who is 'that' who has to know 'thyself or oneself'? Goenkaji clearly states that "one" has to cross the boundaries of mind and matter and has to reach the other 'shore' which is full of peace and joy, which is inexplicable. Who is this "one" who has to cross to realize "ones own peace and joy"? When questioned about this, Buddha said, "find the answer by yourself as this transcended state is beyond explanation". However, Upanishads have clearly clarified this question. They have said that it is the Atma which is under the mere illusion of bondage [of body and mind] and hence it is Atma -I Am- that has to liberate itself from the bondage to realize its own Sath-Chith-Ananda, which Buddha expained as "Kevala Jnaana".
