I hated skating in Chucks. It only lasted a day, and it was really heavy. I skated mostly Airwalks. Probably went through a couple dozen of Webs, then switched to the Prototypes, and finally, Velocities. People rag on the Velocities for their bulkiness and style, but I loved them. My ollies caught the rubberized portion of the shoe, which the Prototypes missed a bit, and it never got worn down from the tons of impossibles I was doing when I was riding the Velocities. Airwalks Rocked!
... Air walk , vans copy the Chuck's .. Still to this day you can find the the high tops .. I just got both sets cheep .. At my ross store .. Pair of DC/Air walks/vans for75/80$ .. Sweet deal 👌 ..
I went through an Airwalk phase. My brother always got Vans. So I chose Airwalk because I liked the name. Even though they were cheap I still rocked Airwalks.
I picked up a pair of Avia 830 high top basketball shoes. They were originally released in 1986 or 1987. I skate them and use them for BMX shoes. I ride an 87 Hutch exel BMX, and a reissued Lester Kasai tracker board
Yeah i remember those .. that’s sweet. I grew up in the 80s riding box and skating so I know the Hutch brand. You have some nice gear my old friend was the team manager at tracker during that period so I have good memories of all those tracker Dan Wilkes, Lester and Adrian Demain graphics. ✌🏼
I started skating in 88 and don't even remember what I started skating In. Although, I do remember having a pair of hand me down Visio Vision Streetwear canvas
Skating since 84 and I was poor! I couldn't ever afford high-tops. So, It was Vans low tops cuz it was 2 pair for 20bux in SoCal. So, I never learned to skate in hi-tops. All throughout the eighties and part of the early 90s eveyone said "you're going to break your ankles". Well, tore all the ankle ligaments and tendons ollie n fire hydrants (twice). Pretty rad that you had all that footage! Are dirty scumbag skate crew from Riverside only have a handful pictures. Nobody had access to recorder. All the rad stuff we did and never got a film.
I hear you brotha I was raised in the most impoverished area in my state I got real lucky having the skate shop owner being like a second dad and getting me what I needed to skate. I feel blessed to have these old clips for sure. Glad we both have those awesome memories of the 80s. Thanks for the comment.
If u skated in 86-87 when Vision Street Wear came out with shoes/ i dont care how bad u talk smack about the company _ I guarantee you either had a pair or you wanted a pair....... My first skate shoe: my dad was sent to Southern California for his job in 1985 and for my 10th birthday sent me a pair of black and blue Vans slip-ons. It seemed that pkg took forever to get to Memphis.... I wore them til they had holes on the side and bottom.....
Loved seeing the 80s footage in this

These were better than af1 back then plus they came in snakeskin
Loved those shoes. ✌🏼
Ollie s got higher over the years...but that was the board and physical abilities..😂
What’s you favorite recent shoe that’s came out, figured I’d ask?
As far as skate shoes that’s a hard one….ive been liking some of the NB options and that new Ishod release.
Vision Street wesr seem like rebranded chucks😂
They held up better though I will say that
