    Thank you for showing how easy that process actually is. I wasn’t sure how the left cap came off. I traded my ‘16 CVO Road Glide Ultra in on a newer ‘21 Road King Special, but I don’t have the newer bike home yet. I’m getting a couple of accessories installed before they deliver it to my house so I haven’t had a chance to investigate this yet. The previous owner removed the black caps and replaced them with chrome ones. 😖 He had tried making it more like a RK Classic by replacing the front fender to the Classic style, adding a Classic front light bar in chrome, and replacing various other black parts with chrome to give it a balanced “two-toned” black & chrome look. Now I get to pay to put it back more like stock. LOL

    • @kidmoto22
      @kidmoto22  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man Chrome is coming back! If I was starting from scratch with another bike I might lean into the chrome right now just to be a bit different. I do however prefer the black it’s just back to getting overdone.

      @@kidmoto22 Absolutely! I’ve wanted another blacked out bike for a while now. I swapped a bunch of stuff when I bought my new ‘08 Street Glide but left just a couple of things chrome for an accent because man did they ever “pop” then! Then when I traded that on the CVO RG, that was completely covered in chrome. I’ve been watching & waiting the last two or three years again for another blacked out CVO that I “just had to have”, but hadn’t found the right overall bike until now that I’ve decided to downsize. My wife got her license and “repurposed” my ‘16 Fatboy lol so we don’t ride two-up any longer. I wanted another lighter bike, preferably a Road King. I found this one with a custom paint job by the same guy that painted “my wife’s bike” with only 4400 miles on it and a Stage 3 build (122”) and the price was right and here we are! I’m going to leave some chrome on it as an accent again and then enjoy it. 😎 How have you liked your RKS and what plans did you have for it? I’m going to subscribe to your channel so I’ll probably find out more either way.

      @@davidsidler7246 I’ve touched almost every part of my bike in some form or another and it’s nothing like the stock form. I love the bike for sure and have convinced one of my crew to purchase the same bike. It’s on the touring platform so there’s a ton of parts and mods you can do.

  • @GrigoriMalikim

    My gas gauge/cap on the left of my non-fuel injected 2003 king got pulled up about 1/2 way in transit by a tie down for a dirt bike. Pushed it back down but the sight glass and gauge were slanted. Attempts to set them back were making it more offset so I got it were I could read it and rode it. It ran weird, like choke was 1/2 on for 10mls and quit. It would then ride 1 mile and quit. It kept starting but also kept quitting...it would idle fine, even several minutes, but not under load. Once home I pulled the gauge 1/2 way out of tank, but not clear, still 1/2 way in, and started it and it backfired and quit. I pushed the gauge back in and somehow, quite accidentally, the sight glass and gauge were perfectly lined up exactly where they're supposed to be! I started it and it runs perfect, no weird lope like the choke slightly pulled out, runs freak'n great but I don't know for a fact this was the issue. 98% sure, but going 10mils to find out would suck. My question, finally, is this...would messing with that cap cause it to run like crap and keep stalling? I say yes because of ventilation, but can't find any info.

    • @kidmoto22
      @kidmoto22  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok....You are correct about ventilation. However on my bike the non fuel side doesn’t provide access to the fuel it’s just a tunnel for the electrical to travel through. If the non fuel side on your bike provides access to the fuel then I would say yes your correct. If that side doesn’t provide access to the fuel the two issues likely were not connected. Hope this helps and good luck wrenching and riding! The Road King is a great bike!

    Nice, straightforward video. Looks great. Pardon my Touring-newbness but was there anything being displayed on the stock left (fake) gas cap, since it was also wired? On the new Softails, there is no little whole underneath, just the gas tank, and there are no wires.

      You can always check your connections and make sure they are all good and tight. Beyond that I don’t have any idea.

      @@kidmoto22 I agree kid, I like that they are flush mount and that they are black, good choice brother I've always been kinda a chrome nut but the past few years I'm really starting to like the black out look on all these bike's, and it stays better looking a heck of a lot longer, everyone knows that Harley Davidson chrome isn't the best of quality anymore, I guess I'm old school, but I really am liking the black out look 💯✌️😎

    I watch this whole tutorial to see how you get the wires out of the plug on the bottom of the tank. He skipped over that. Dandy.

      You can de-pin them or cut them. As I knew I wouldn’t be using the stock cap again I cut them off and re-pined the new plug.

      @@kidmoto22 if you buy the flush mount from harley, it's easy. I bought mine from Amazon and there was a horrendous gap. But what they cant really get right is the gas level on the sportster. Reviews are all over the place. Some say it works, but there a many saying it is not accurate. Anyway, as long as I reset the miles when I fuel up, I have a good idea of when to pump more.

    Great , except this guy forgot the heat shield. Eventually these wires will melt from heat and either the gauge will stop working or you'll get a short . Not too good!!!
