    • @elizabethwentorf379
      @elizabethwentorf379 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I hate to say it, but that describes me exactly. I gave up on the news and any social media coverage of news, because it is SO often something horrible that I feel powerless to do anything about. I am not saying that if something like that happened in front of my face that I would not do something to try and stop it because I totally would. I would have tried to save the boy in the video even if the rest of the town hated me for it, because it would have been the right thing to do. I just hope that one day [hopefully in my lifetime] people can see other people just as human beings and not as straight, gay, black, white, a religious affiliation, a [insert country]an, less, or more but just as a person with a life story you do not know. Judge someone on WHO they are and not WHAT they are.

    • @Choosetoone
      @Choosetoone 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Elizabeth wentorf most of the world don’t care about colour or where you are from its just the small cases of racism or whatever that do happen stick out like a sore thumb because that stuff does not happen much. I mean their will always be some racism but as long as people and society continue to condemn it, it will be fine.

    • @edjacksonindc
      @edjacksonindc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Drago Juna Are you kidding? It's not a documentary or a news story. It's an artist interpretation of the entire incident, including cultural attitudes that allowed Martin's murderer to walk away after a jury trial. "It's just another ordinary day. "

    • @kickinitwithmydawg
      @kickinitwithmydawg 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Edward Jackson - you said in your original post that "Trayvon Martin. This is exactly what happened to him." Now you are back tracking by saying "It's an artist interpretation of the entire incident" I guess you trying to correct yourself without saying you were wrong.
      You do realize that this happened in Florida where the gun laws are shit? And you have idiots like the guy who shot Trayvon taking advantage of the terrible laws. I feel the same way about the system in Florida. This video doesn't show the voices of the allies of the victims. Not one. How I saw it, looked like he was saying no white people cared at all. Dayum. What isn’t amazing about this?
    -it’s visually pleasing
    -role reversals from to a black cop shooting a white man, to same sex marriages being put as the superior type of marriage
    -read the sign backwards
    -timing was amazing on the little girls parts

      The title at the end is also flipped, perhaps a play on how the roles in this are reversed.

    This gave me an existential crisis about the society I live in (in a good way). We can talk all we want about how aware we are of the problems in the world, but instead of directly adressing them we just push them aside and insist there's nothing we can do but look down upon them and cynically comment on how problematic they are.

    I remember watching this when it came out (2 years sago) and thinking how powerful and important it was, with age it has only become more so. It’s upsetting that these issues are still so relevant, is video is more educational then what some kids learn in schools about racism and homophobia. Thank you Todrick x

    This is such a catchy melody, but dear lord does it leave me feeling disturbed when I pay attention to the lyrics. The lyrics, combined with the video, really helps solidify that unnerving atmosphere; the visual symbolism was a very nice touch - the dust literally being swept under the rug, the goldfish left to die unnecessarily...
    Honestly Todrick, this was awesome, and I really look forward to listening to the whole album when it drops.

  • @raesager7128
    @raesager7128 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I won’t lie. The first time I saw this I had a bit of a problem. As someone who can look at someone of a different race or nationality, and see them as the same as myself, I took offense to this. I know, but bare with me for a minute. The second time around, I realized how real this was, and was disgusted with myself that I was offended by it. How dare I? How could I take this personally? Me feeling that way about this is EXACTLY what this is all about. Our society is totally comfortable shoving unsightly news under the rug, and we’re teaching our children to pretend that the world is perfect, and bad things happen but oh well, just move on. We are an unfair species. An unfair race. Unfortunately, racism will never end. Sexism, homophobia, racism, it will always be a problem. But by putting something in perspective for people who will never fully understand what the black community (as well as the gay community, and other minorities) goes through is a wonderful way to get your point across. I apologize for my ignorance, and I love what this whole album represents. Thank you Todrick, for teaching me this. For opening my eyes, when I thought they were already open.

      I can totally understand how this will come across as offensive, and I won’t be upset by any hate that comes my way, as I’m sure it will be justified. I just had to be honest, to show how appreciative I am for the perspective I’ve gained.
