    I don't usually get super into music deconstruction videos, but dude, you're SO fucking geeked out on it, and so genuinely into it, I LOVE this. How much you love it makes me love watching this, and intrigues me way more. The music itself is obviously a big part of it, but the interest in the deconstruction, it's just so interesting to watch you break it down.

      @danielnelson4881 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What makes you say they are so important in music history? If you don't mind explaining.
      They aren't so much my style, but I love their music, and appreciate the hell out of it. I rocked No World For Tomorrow for quite a while when it came out. So I'm definitely not hating, I'm just not sure how "important" they are in music history, from my point of view.
      They are a relatively niche band... Not one you hear a ton of bands counting as a big influence to their sound. Though I'm sure some would, I cannot name one, maybe you can?
      When I think of bands that are "so important in music history..." I just can't say I'm able to imagine music as I know it being much different than it is, were Coheed never to exist as a band. Possibly a couple of bands affected but overall relatively unchanged...
      Anyway, just my opinion. I'm definitely open to someone changing my mind though. I hate to "discredit" in a way, such an excellent band, but "so important to music history" sounds like an exaggeration from someone who's a big fan of theirs, and not seeing things clear and without bias. Which there's nothing wrong with of course, I'm sure I do it too. I'm just wondering if you'll come back and hit me with something huge, that changes my mind!

    • @ForeverMasterless
      @ForeverMasterless 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielnelson4881 As a Coheed fan I think you're spot on. They're pretty much doing their own thing and they've developed a pretty sizable fanbase but are definitely still niche. I can think of maybe four or five bands that seems to be directly influenced by them, but they're not very big.
      I would also argue there's nothing inherently trailblazing about Coheed. They're very talented but they're not like cutting edge experimental or anything really. I think a huge part of their appeal for me is them mushing together things I already liked. Namely post-hardcore, metal, 70s prog, melodic pop, and comic book storytelling. It's like I was listening to Thursday and someone said hey what if this but crazy intricate guitars and space opera? Fucking let's gooooooo.

    I learned more about soloing from this video than I have in years of lessons/learning. I am a pianist by training and having you go into the scales was like turning on a light switch I couldn't find after looking for 20 years on and off. It has clicked on other instruments and I just couldn't translate it to the guitar until you started talking about natural minor scales. I'm not sure why it helped, but I am stoked it did!

    He used a Bogner Uberschall for the welcome home tour. I was lucky, the band I was in went to record a album with a guy that was in a signed band. He had Claudio's amp in the studio and I got pictures with the road case from the welcome home tour and got to play the amp cranked. He wouldn't say who he got it off of. I had a feeling it was Claudio.

    I still can't get over the fact that Claudio shreds like that while singing like that. It is sooo fucking difficult to sing in key and play guitar at the same time. Coheed is so fucking good man. I love how Mike gets into this song... Please react to some more Coheed and maybe some Tool too.

    I'm not a fan, so I've passively listened a lot with the radio and what have you.... I hear the flat VI and automatically go "HARMONIC MINOR" but you made this part make a lot of sense to me with the maj III. I really dig the combination of noodling and analysis. Thank you, brother! Coheed and Cambria has always been my favorite band that I never listen to. I don't know why... I just can't ever get myself to play a Coheed song during my leisurely listening time.. Every time I listen to them I effing love them though. I did have a period where I listened to the album "No World For Tomorrow" a lot though. Excellent album, not really my style of music but it's so good.

    FUCK YES. Megadeth gave metal riffs permission to be lushly melodic, distinct from the snarling savagery of Metallica’s riffs or the anarchic noise of Slayer’s. All metalcore bands play in a sandbox built by Mustaine and the premier guitarists with whom he’s built the Megadeth discography.
    And metalcore, btw, is the scene in which Coheed came up: their first two records came out on Equal Vision Records, and I first saw them on their “Second Stage Turbine Blade” tour as openers for Thrice and- the headliners!- Hot Water Music.

    Fun fact, this song is the reason I started playing guitar. I was on the path to becoming a drummer like my dad and then I heard Welcome Home on the first version of Rockband and said "I need to learn guitar so I can play that" and it was the first song I learned to play start to finish.

    • @MauriXIV
      @MauriXIV 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was looking for this comment. I always played guitar but the first time I heard this song I knew I had to stick to my guitar and my skills.
      Still remember every note to this day!

    • @itz_premium
      @itz_premium 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny.. Welcome Home is the reason I picked up the drums when I was young. Well this and Beast and the Harlot by A7X.
      Yellow ledbetter by Pearl Jam is what made me wanna get a set of strings.
      Seems to be a lot of commonality across people who decide to pick up instruments because of certain songs. Its always the same handful of songs from any group.

  • @wnd2845
    @wnd2845 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’d give anything to learn to play guitar. You make it look so effortless🥲.
    Edit: hit the 12:50 mark….. 🤯 seeing the wheels turn in your mind as you’re hearing the notes being played, and the joy that overcomes your face. It truly is a beautiful skill, talent, gift whatever you wanna call it. To be able to hear and understand music and to be able to play an instrument. 🤩 You are so lucky!! I LOVE music so much and hearing songs like these. That have such amazing guitar riffs, ughhh. I wish I could play and jam out because I can feel all the energy these artists put into their music. Also, just stumbled onto your channel and this is the first video I’ve seen. I’m not sure if you ever done any on the group Avenged Sevenfold. If you have I will definitely be checking those out😄 if not, Please look into them. They are one of my favorite bands primarily because of their guitarists and their solos. Amazing!! Anyways, great video👏🏻 I will keep watching.👍🏼

      It's been years and Gravity's Union still floors me every time that I hear it. When Claudio explained that the song came about about as a thought experiment into to what he considered would be the worst thing that could happen to him - he and his wife getting into a car wreck and him surviving and her not - and being stuck in a loop of that... chills. (He then, as he does, incorporated that into the Amory lore.)
